    I am the Maintenance Manager here at SIMCOM Lee Vista in Orlando. I am in charge of the team that repairs and services all the simulators and training devices we have here at our Corporate Office. I liked your video presentation and I am glad you had the chance to perform this approach you did an excellent job and your instructor did as well. For those at home this approach can be duplicated in MSFS 2020 on your home computer. (I do it all the time both in the simulator here as well as at home - of course I enjoy doing it in our Level-D G650 Gulfstream simulator the most)

    Because this was a simulator, the entire time I was waiting for an engine failure, or go around instructions, or some sort of emergency. Glad it turned out OK. 😉

      If the "930" had a separate DME I would have flagged the GPS and make him fly a LOC/DME with a missed approach.

      @@colinsouthern Yeah, I get that. They gave him a relatively easy "flight" for the cameras, and he showcased their facility.
      It's probably a good thing I'm not a simulator op. Flying an RNAV with a step down to minimums didn't look too challenging to me. Having to tune and identify the VORs and localizers while single pilot and still fly the plane in the "mountains" would have definitely been a workout, but I think it would also be a better demonstration of a pilot's skills.

      @@davidrush4908 Aspen itself is not "easy", and less so with IMC conditions. I think the choice of flight was spot on.

      @@colinsouthern Wow, someone older than me. I'm just older than dirt, but not as old as rocks. When I trained steam guages ruled, and I've flown more NDB approaches than I care to mention, and one of the planes actually had LORAN.
      Personally, I'm absolutely positive Steve has way more flight time than I do, and respect both his professionalism and his ability to talk to the cameras while flying the plane, even when he has something unexpected happen.
      One thing I have noticed though is his apparent dependence on GPS, because I've never seen him identify a VOR or ILS. Granted, that may have been edited out or the procedure deprecated with FMS (never used one, so I don't know), but I was taught to always identify.
      To my comments, the approach procedures are designed to safely get you to the ground if you follow them, so it doesn't matter if you are in the mountains or flatland. For an experienced pilot this is a fairly straightforward approach, but since its a SIM it is a perfect time to take a pilot out of their comfort zone. I think the LOC/DME approach would have done that. It's still a straightforward approach, but would have required a little more work to identify the fixes.

    Thanks for the video! I'm blown away by the tech on display -- couldn't help but think how the first cartographers would react if they could see this. I'd love to hear pilots discuss the sim experience -- obviously it's quite realistic on the one hand, but on the other hand you're not risking disaster if something goes wrong.

    I was close to going to work for SIMCOM at MCO as a full motion Simulator maintenance technician. They gave me a tour of their facility a long while back... Really kool place. I decided to stay working on the real thing in TPA, since I lived in the PIE area. Kool Video Steveo!!!

    In 1980 I flew into Aspen out of Denver in a Dash 7. It seemed like we dove down out of the sky. This was before, of course, most of the electronic aids now common.

    Back in the 1980s I did some work for a company that made computers for the simulators on a contract for the US airforce. It was very challenging (at that time) to make computers that ran fast enough so that when the pilot moved the controls, it made everything respond in real time.

    Steveo, I have flown the 33 LOC step down approach many times in the MS 10 simulator, but always in VFR conditions. I'm not instrument qualified, but understand how they work. I'm an SEL private pilot. I now have the MS 2020 flight Sim and am going to start flying out of Denver to refamiliarize myself with the TBM 930 and the G3000. I have already forgotten how to use some of the features. That is the great thing about You Tube, plenty of tutorials about the MS2020 flight sim, and everything else aviation. I love the TBM 930. It would be a thrill to fly in the real thing I am sure. I enjoy all of your You Tube ride along video's. I watch each one that you publish. You do great camera work in your videos. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing with us!!! Steveo ROCKS!!!!!!

      If you're still simming and have $40 laying around you can get the black square TBM850 which comes with an analog cockpit and higher system fidelity

    Thank you for posting! I enjoyed watching you fly the sim. I noticed how the "real deal" sim doesn't have any better terrain than P3D default scenery. Will have to try Aspen in my A2A V-35 Bonanza. Would be nice to have the METAR for Aspen when you did your flight.

    When I was flying CORP we flew the Challenger and Citations and had just landed when the Challenger crashed there at Aspen 2014. I will never forget the tail number of the Challenger N115WF and the conditions as it was very windy that night

    Great video 👍. I was lucky to fly an RJ sim a few years back. We did some instrument approaches into SFO, with near zero vis and a lot of crosswind. As a GA pilot, I didn't quite get all the instrument stuff, but nailed the landing anyway. Good on Simcom for letting you do this. I know sim time can be expensive 👍👍 love to visit them one day.

    That was really fun to watch. I’ve flown into Aspen once with an instructor in a Cirrus, on a beautiful CAVU day. The terrain was impressive indeed. It would be nerve-wracking to do in IMC. I have a friend who lives there. He is authorized for one of the approaches that requires special training and (I think) an LOA. 😳

    STEVIO, NICE ‘TRIP’ with the 930 at that, great going, @ an AOPA class some years ago, they had an example with serious mountains , Based on REAL events, have you see why things happen if distracted MOCA, ,,, MDA etc, + staying out of ACTIVE MILITARY AREAS. , ,,,,, THANKS FOR TAKING US ALONG ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    In my 26 years of military flying I never had an auto pilot or anything except my head and looking at the RMI to determine how to enter holding. Had to figure out approach times and wind corrections using a whiz wheel. These new systems are terrific and makes flying much safer and tremendously lowers the pilot workload once you learn the system. Great video and I enjoy watching all your stuff. This has to be a great time to be an aviator!

      Pretty neat isn't it? I just got my instrument ticket a few weeks ago and I've never even used a RMI or the old school whiz wheel. I have an electronic E6B to figure out approach times (if I don't have GPS in the plane). I tip my hat to you older aviators who actually had to work hard even for routine approaches and flying. Haha. I haven't used an AP system yet either... although I joke to my instructor that I am the Autopilot for them.

    Great video. Had fun in 737 SIM doing stuff you can't do in real life like the checker board approach into the old Hong Kong airport and the instrument approach in rain into the new airport.

    A lot of white out there! Yea mountain flying around, over and through is no joke . Some of these airports in Colorado are difficult to fly in. Wow it’s just like being in a real TBM Aircraft! Awesome and challenging flight! What’s also awesome about this is Simcom is in my hometown Orlando, FL!
