I love your videos, Titus! I'm self-taught, and most of my life, I have painted my family who passed away. I am 76 years old today. I could not go to art school because my family was poor. But I always wanted to be an artist, although my mom told me once that "artists don't go anywhere in life."

I love to hear the brush strokes and breathing. All the human noises make so you can't hide emotions and perhaps fear or excitement. I heard Rob say "It is ok. It is going to be good." Sounds like he was reassuring himself as he was following the process.

More interesting listening to you two talk about art in an afternoon than news & politics.

This was a brilliant video! The different points of view between two artists were a treat for the artistic ear. Rob is a true find for us listening and viewing. I 100 percent agree with his view of using photos as a supplement to painting from life (if at all possible). Painting from life, you will definitely find a joy of discovering and seeing the changes in light while you paint. Thanks Titus, for setting-up these "artistic encounters". A real treat!

I paint watercolours since 1987, back then, no social media or even internet. So I subscribed to a Dutch Art Magazine. (Palet en Tekenstift) And Rob Houdijk was already in those magazines.
Always enjoyed his work. But my watercolour hero was Kees van Aalst. And still is.

Yes please - an afternoon at the beach!
Titus, Rob spent more time perusing his palette so less time in the position you decided to portray him so well done.
Such generosity from you both. Thank you!

I giggle at the fact that we are impervious to the advice and voyeurism offered to artists working in front of others. I always thought that was because of my age! Great work! Love the collaboration.

I loved this . Him saying that he works from memory really resonates with me. Recently I was painting a portrait based on another artist’s composition, but I did not want to use the face in that painting. I created my own face and from memory, I had created the face of my daughter. It’s amazing that one’s mind is like a camera. 🥰

I am really interested in the way Rob develops his rendering. I tried to find more on him but sadly there isn’t much more. I did find a small video were he is painting a beautiful young girl and another of him drawing a child in charcoal but that’s it. Hope you do more with this guy as he seems very close to how you think in watercolor as well. It is so inspiring to watch other artists at work.

I have done a lot of paintings from life, particularly portraits, and I get the dialogue and meanings of the dynamics of active looking and how this can give you a sort of immediacy and intensity you would not otherwise get. Thank to both of you for this experience

I loved watching 2 great artists paint together. Your conversation was so inspiring and loved the respect you had for each other and the sincere compliments you both exchanged. I love the advice to first paint portraits from life then possibly finish some details from photos. It was also so nice to hear both of your personal histories and how you both knew to go off on your own and it was the best decision of your lives. Thank you for this and look forward to many more videos in this format.😊

Not a good example that didn't turn out well as we know they were fighting all the time, till Van Gogh ended up cutting his own ear off.

Gauguin was very manipulating and dominant towards Van gogh

    • @marihart-qbc
      @marihart-qbc 7 месяцев назад +1

Gauguin semblait menacé par le talent de Van Gogh. Van Gogh manquait de confiance en lui-même . Ses démons intérieurs grugeaient son énergie...et sa souffrance le rendait vulnérable.

Ok this is a silly observation. I notice a generational difference in your English accents. You sound American and he sounds British. Does this reflect a difference in school curriculum? Or exposure to American television programs? Interesting
