It refreshing to see a professional who doesn't like to use sponges. I have one, but have yet to master how to use it, and truthfully, don't like it very much. It was great to see your brush technique. I think it will help me to achieve a nicer look with my foundations.

Hi Lisa, this tutorial was absolutely one of the best I have ever watched. I love how you explained that it makes for a better foundation application if you start at the centre of the face and work outwards. That makes so much sense. I just recently became a certified MUA so there is still a lot of tips and tricks that I need to learn. Thanks again for this video it was very helpful and educational. Thanks a million!!!! :) :) :)

Just wanted to say a massive thank you! I have always admired the flawless yet product light looking skin you have produced. I really took time to sit and watch a series of your skin tutorials from moisturiser all the way through to the finishing touches. I had a very frank and honest discussion with my brushes (now resurrected), foundations and concealers and only 25% made the cut. I sat and applied along to your tutorial (you have a very kind soothing voice btw) and I am glad to report back success, I have applied less product (none on some areas of my face), do not look cakey and recon I may have even shaved a few years off. A million thanks, what a game changer! Popping off to town now to update my concealers, don't tell my hubby shhh!

You must be watching it in low resolution (maybe 360), switch to HD (720 or ideally 1080). You can do this by clicking on the spiky circle under the film. My videos are super high, broadcast quality so dont watch then in less than 1080p..... if possible. If you internet is very slow this may not be possible however X

Non oily eye makeup remover and baby shampoo will get the stains out of beauty blender types of sponges, and make them sparkling clean. I them let mine sit in a white vinegar and water mixture for 3 minutes to keep the sponge and bacteria free!

Love this video. A beauty blender or real techniques sponge is a bit different from the traditional makeup sponges. I find when damp, these specific sponges don't absorb much product at all.

It's amazing you remind us how important is to clean up our tools after use. I discovered the beauty blender a little while ago, and I felt in love, because I think the effect on the skin, is more much natural than any foundation brush, and the coverage remains pretty the same. But as I regularly do with my brushes, I wash and clean it every time after use. I think this step helps a lot too to extend our makeup tools life. :)

Thank you so much, Lisa. I love this series! One thing that I will say I'm glad you mentioned that the foundation type is key to determining what tool you use- ie Vitalumiere Aqua I always use my fingers. I do use a brush and I use a Beauty Blender with some others . You must clean it with anti-bacterial soap before each use, but I do find it often gives a flawless coverage on troubled skin that fingers & brushes can't achieve. Thanks for sharing your incredible talent!

I used to have the same issue. I've been exfoliating my skin thoroughly about twice a week. I also use a very gentle cleanser with muslin cloth daily. They remove dead skin, improve my skin texture and keep my skin clean. Also, I apply an natural facial toner that contains natural oils to hydrate my skin then seal it with a moisturizer. Everything is in thin layers. This routine helps my foundations perform 10 x better. Hope this helps!

  • @moongloss9243

I have seborrheic dermatitis (my skin is flaky and sensitive) and my preferred method is just using my fingers. I've tried to use brushes and sponges and they tend to accentuate flakiness (especially brushes) while my fingers are much gentler and the flakiness isn't really accentuated. I do use facial peelings but I have a skin condition and my skin tends to become fastly covered with small flakes. That's why I don't use brushes, sometimes sponge but still prefer using fingers for applying liquid foundation. ;)

  • @eglabush1844
    @eglabush1844 9 лет назад +4

Lisa, you have to try the Marcelle BB cream (a Canadian product) in light- medium or light. It is amazing. I use my fingers and I apply it like a would a moisturizer- really making sure to blend it into my skin. Then I take a brush and even it out and apply concealer after that. It is so thin so it just evens out your skin without looking cakey, but I do find I need to spot treat/cover pimples afterwards as it does not cover up stops. Like you said, only about 15 % of most skin is actually bad, and the rest is lovely so take advantage of the nice skin.

I'm dealing with dry flakey skin & oily skin in the same areas. I haven't found a brush that will apply the foundation with out it flaking my skin. I've tried all different formulations of foundations as well. Even priming hasn't helped. Only thing that has worked is a damp beauty blender. I do clean it after every use. I would LOVE to use a brush though. How can I get a nice application with a brush on dry combo oily skin?

    • @alt_ms_frizzle

You have dehydrated skin! I'm sure you've found other methods and solved your problem... But what has helped me SO much is a super gentle cleanser (Dove beauty bar for me) that won't strip your skin, an alcohol free toner (Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner is what I use), and a good basic moisturizer (I like the CeraVe moisturizer for normal to dry skin even though I get oily, or the Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotions NOT the gel), plus your eye cream. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water! Your skin is dehydrated... Not dry. Since it is dehydrated it is overproducing oil to try to combat that. Hope this helped.

I have oily skin, I use a tea tree toner before I put on foundation and with that it`s easier to make the foundation look smoother and 'cleaner'. And that toner prevents the makeup to glide into my pores as well.

Thanks Lisa, I've been applying foundation for years, I've just learned a new tip. I used to apply to cover acne, now just uneven skintone and scars. I absolutely do not need so much around my outer edges.

Apply foundation wherever you feel you need it, foundation will not prevent sweat from coming through X

I've never thought to use another brush to buff the foundation out. Thank you for your advice as always Lisa x

For cleaning makeup sponges, I soak them in a mixture of some gentle tide clothing detergent and water in a bowl for awhile. It sounds quite silly and strange, but they come out completely clean looking and, despite my oily/sensitive skin, I've never had any problems using that as opposed to a face soap. In my experience, it actually works better.
