- The 51st FIL Luge World Championships were officially opened on Thursday evening with a laser and multimedia show as well as various shows, speeches and presentations. FIL President Einars Fogelis and Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow gave the starting signal for the World Championships on the Medal Plaza in the centre of Oberhof.
