When the paint is really flaky like that, the fastest thing i've found for relatively flat surfaces is a carbide scraper. takes it off pretty quick, then you can go back and get the rest with a wire cup on a grinder or whatever. Sand blasting is the best for little nooks and crannies and awkwardly shaped areas.
If he had a professional sand blasting setup with 100 gallon tank and 25cfm 3 stage pump, it wouldn't matter the blaster would take off the flakes like butter. But this spot blaster on a residential compressor is going to take a lot longer
It definitely works. You demonstrated that very well for showing it with no prep work. For what you paid for it to maybe touch up a trailer that got the paint scratched off to repaint that spot or hit a spot in an engine bay a grinder won't reach to ground a wire, this will be perfect for you.
It looks like it doesn't do much of a big area but we'll work nice in touching up small areas hard to reach that the sander or wire wheel can't get to.
Just a thought power wash first Then use a tarp to catch the media and obliviously proper PPE The unit is too small for that size machine but for spot cleaning it will work well.
It’s for small parts for sure, I would never use something like that to do a whole machine, it’s just the crustiest piece of metal I had close by at the time
I bought and returned one of these because I couldn't get it to draw anything through it. Maybe I didn't have it setup correctly as I was using the same media. I don't recall what pressure I used as it was long enough ago.
The paper clip trick and playground sand is the way to go. I've used this exact machine on several occasions. Forgive the analogy, but if you take a paperclip and make it into your best imitation of an IUD, and get that in the t valve on the base, you can use dirt cheap playground sand and get a much better, faster result
The black bag is medium. Most of the reviews have said it's best with fine grit, red bag. I bought it for trailer rims, too hard to get the tightbspots with a grinder
I don't know if you have a gravel driveway anywhere, but cold slag was used to gravel them for about 40 years everywhere around here and I'm right on the sound. My old place across the street had the driveway about 1/3 of a mile that was in poor shape when I bought the place. I put down 8 yd of 5/8 but I had it tilled into the slag before I crowned and compacted it. I'm normally pretty environmentally minded, but that place was in deep rainforest. If I had used gravel alone, it would take 10 yd to the year and 100 hours of Labor. But I guess we are saving the world by shipping it to China on giant diesel powered tankers?
Just got one from harbor freight. Works at higher psi, but my coarse walnut media clogs is almost instantly. I can use a small media, but still clogs. Kinda an annoying tool at time haha
Nothing came out of mine either. Then I discovered the nozzle inside the gun was assembled backwards. The small hole in the internal nozzle needs to go forward right over the media input. It's the small hole that creates the necessary vacuum. My 4 gallon, 2.6 scfm @ 90 psi, 2 HP Campbell Hausfeld compressor now has no problem pulling the media up ( Harbor Freight 80 grit glass beads ).
It's all about shifting your attitude. I'm sure there's some place in your town where ladies pay $50 a pop for the same thing, they just call it exfoliation, haha. Like you know that Himalayan sea salt that is pink and sells for 30 x of normal salt? So is a base element on the periodic chart, it's not possible for it to taste different. People are happily paying 30 x for dirty Rusty salt, haha
talk about a bad ass grinder... normally I am not one to bring up safety matters, but might consider some serious breathing protection for operating something like this...
I started with play sand in medium. At $6 per bag. Now it comes damp and will not drop into the air line. So in a big roasting pan and the oven at 250 for one hour Also I had to shift it out because small pebbles block the gun. Once that was done it worked great. A bag of medium is $40 and sand was $6. A little labor was fine by me. I
@@scotthornhill8762 It was a 6 imch kitchen strainer I found at Walmart. $4. It pulled out just enough to make it flow. But getting the dampness out was just as important. At $6 per bag a Home Depot for me personally was ok
Well I am in the market for a sandblaster right now I have an old Red Flyer wagon I want to redo and this looks so slow it would take me 8 months to do just the body of the wagon thank you for the video
I would recommend actually that nobody by this thing I just bought mine it doesn't really work like you would think it works mine actually doesn't spray shit out of it at all and Harbor Freight will not return the walnuts that I bought or this piece of shit media blaster it makes absolutely no vacuum suction for you can pull the trigger on that gun and it'll blow 200 PSI write out the gun I even filled the hose up with the Walnut shells that they recommended for the damn thing and it's still don't work what a waste of $80

Very true, I was mostly just testing the thing out

Yah at last first time ever hookd up. 🤗😂Thank you for sharing. Lol the bucket thing is called a hopper container

Yes it is small, I was mostly just seeing if it worked
What kind of compressor did you use? The CFM rating will dictate how much material you can throw.
What kind compressor did you use? Nice video.
Is very consistent with how mine worked right out of the box
Iv since got rid of mine, it was way to messy but did work
That ain’t gonna change the world. I could see the portable blaster for outdoor rust and touch up work
It does a ok job but sure makes a mess and is kind of slow, I’m going to try it once more with some different media
It might be ok for small parts, I will check back with you next year to see if you Finished
It’s for small parts for sure, I would never use something like that to do a whole machine, it’s just the crustiest piece of metal I had close by at the time
What psi did you use? I think this unit is rated for lower pressure which may make it pulse less.
I bought and returned one of these because I couldn't get it to draw anything through it. Maybe I didn't have it setup correctly as I was using the same media. I don't recall what pressure I used as it was long enough ago.
Do you think this would remove paint from the underside of a wood banister or spindles with ground walnut?
I’m not sure, I have almost no experience on doing things with wood
NO, it will ruin the wood.
@@jeffrme depends on what grit you use. If you use it to air gum probably not.

U have video?
U need a respirator if you use sand , because of the silica dust. On commercial projects I've seen them use grinded walnut shells .
The black bag is medium. Most of the reviews have said it's best with fine grit, red bag. I bought it for trailer rims, too hard to get the tightbspots with a grinder
Yes the finer the media the better it works for sure
Adam you must use grinder or drill with wire wheel first before sandblasting...i dunno the quality of that thing...hard to tell
Yes I would use a grinder first, I was just trying the thing out
Yes small projects for sand blasting
Yup
Please would you list what medium did you use
It was the black diamond stuff that harbor freight sells I believe
I bet if you used gravity I. Your favor by putting it up higher it would work better too

can it be used for etching glass ?
I’m not sure, I don’t really know anything about that to offer a opinion
How big of a compressor are you using
80 gallon
Would dry ice work with this??
I’m not sure, I have not done much with dry ice so I don’t know what it would take to get it small enough to go through the hose
Nothing comes out of mine, anyone know if it takes a specific air pressure?
Mine works at most pressures but With bigger media my hose has a tendency to clog
Just got one from harbor freight. Works at higher psi, but my coarse walnut media clogs is almost instantly.

I find the air pressure they say is not enough

Cool, ya, that’s bout it
Indeed, I got rid of the thing, it makes a huge mess
You just need to use a wire wheel of on a grinder, and you'd be done stripping the machine in a flash!!
talk about a bad ass grinder...

Yeah for sure
You sound like Mr. Garrison's boyfriend from South Park.
Hi, good.
Thank you for watching
1000lbs. of media and 3 months later... It's done 😩
Iv had two now, the second one has lasted a lot longer than the first even though they look identical

What screen size or items do you use to shift the sand for the desired particulate size?

No offense grab a spatula and scrape the flakes
Yeah for sure, this was just a rough test but pre scrapping would be best
If the spray pattern is that narrow that's gonna take all day?😳
Jman
Yes, it’s best used for hard to reach areas that are hard to get to with a grinder

There units are hit or miss from one to another, after using this thing for a hour I am not a fan of the huge mess it makes
Harbor freight is a hopper container. I thought it was a compressor 😠 I bought 1 😠😠😠😠. Add showd the hopper not the compressor. 😠😠😠
Pretty pointless “review”.
