Sony Xperia 1 IV FIXED? No More Overheating?!

- The Sony Xperia 1 IV heating problems that plagued the camera apear to be fixed! i have been using the Sony Xperia 1 IV since it launched and I made many videos about the camera having serious overheating problems, especially during the summer when it's hot outside. The Sony Xperia 1 IV has had many software and camera updates since it launched in 2022, and it appers like the overheating issues may be fixed. I recorded video and capture photos for an hour and it didn't even get warm! This is great news!
good to hear Sony kept working on the problem
They fixed it right in time for Xperia 1V release😂😂
Bought brand new Xperia 1 IV at today. Wanted to get familiar with advanced camera software features and phone instantly became very hot. Also other high load actions made the phone hot. It was surprising because in a shop when tested photos and apps with same model phone, it didn't happened. Then realized that it probably is because of software problems. Ran system updates that rolled for few hours and installed two dozen system upgrades in process. Seems Sony made all Xperia phone upgrades incremental, you must install all of them. After updates overheating seems completely stopped. Phone still warm up when intensively used and in photo mode. But it is slightly to bearably warm, not red hot with yellow triangle as before. And temperature drops very fast after use.
How about running other apps? Is it run smoothly like browsing, youtube or gaming? I'm really want to buy this phone
@@dochi03 When all system updates are installed, phone become warm in some occasions, but not red hot as in beginning. Tried pretty much everything - Web browsing, photos, RUclips, movie and Stargate SG-1 series watching (for second month already) in MX Player, Waze (including single 500 km trip in same day), SSH terminal, file copying by several tens of GBytes over USB cable and over WiFi with Warpinator, few 3D games - no problems at all. UI and games are smooth. I believe that with recent system updates excess heating issues are fixed. You can buy the phone, it is amazing :)
Can you record video longer ??
Im currently using xperia 1 iv and updated to all latest updates i can confirm my phone does not get warm as before also i have not had a single heat warning ⚠️ sign so the update may have resolved this issue.
Have you tried playing a heavy game on it ? I'm still on Xperia 1 Mk ii, absolutely love it and I had my eyes on 1 IV for an upgrade ( or 1 Mk V when it become more affordable) but the overheating issue of 8 Gen1 remains a turn off since I played plenty of heavy games on mobile...
Hi I have Xperia 1 ii too and planning to get mark IV too😅. How did you found it? Do you advise me to get it?@@GjordDeLad05
Ive owned the Xperia Z5 Premium and the Xperia XZ Premium...love these phones.
Had SD card support and 3.5mm headphone jack...probably why I still prefer the LG V60 over my S22 Ultra.
I might get an Xperia next 🤔
Im on the V30, wish LG still would be around 😁
I have an Xperia 1 II (2020's flagship) and for the same reasons you listed, I was drawn to it so I bought it. But after daily driving this phone for a couple of years now, I don't know if I will go back to another Sony Phone.
Specs wise it's great for the time, just like specs wise the 1 IV is great, but daily driving there's a lot that it does wrong.
For example, the vibration is suuuper weak and piss poor on the 1 II. A PS2 controller has better vibration than this and unlike Samsung phones there's no way to adjust the vibration strength, like at all. And secondly the torch is also piss poor on it as well. I'm pretty sure candlelight is brighter than this torch.
Third is the 21:9 aspect ratio. I get that it is quirky and ngl it's cool seeing 21:9 content without letterboxing and especially when you film video's using the Cinema Pro app and play them back in their native format - it's really satisfying.
But outside of that it's utter garbage. Yes you can zoom in to fill the screen on RUclips but since the screen dimensions are ACTUALLY 21:9, it cuts off so much more than other phones do when you zoom in on a 16:9 video.
And on certain video apps like Crunchyroll and Amazon Video, you can't zoom at all leaving you to view it in a very small window.
My other issues with this phone have been fixed in later releases, but I still wonder about the issues I mentioned above, aside from the 21:9 aspect ratio of course.
Since I mainly watch RUclips on my phone, it makes better sense for me and anyone else that consistently watches far more 16:9 content to just get a different phone altogether.
XZ Premium is legendary. Imo last phone that had literally EVERYTHING I wanted at the time. No downsides.
Good to hear. Let's hope Sony get their shit together with the 1V and give us a phone with zero overheating issues right outta the box.
It's not that bad.
The 1 V has a confirmed beefier cooling system and the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 processor isn't overheating like the gen 1.
I think we'll be fine.
@@anecro Really? That's great news!
@@joelconolly5574 Well, just tried to record an open air classic concert and it's really sad, when the camera gave up after 50 mins, due to overheating in 15°C (59°F) with a bit cold overcast weather. Using VideoPro app 4K 60fps (why it shouldn't handle it, when cheaper phones do?).
@@JiriSyrovatko other phones in the same gen tend to secretly throttle the frame rate when it gets that far.
My IV is still overheating like never before. It overheats while it was in my pocket. It overheats under normal daily use. It wasn't like this last month. A recent update has made it worse than ever. Battery life is now ridiculous also. The other day it said modem shut down due to overheating
I thought it was just my battery
It probably has something to do with the casing most people use as well.
@@Llucius1right... I have a case.. But I don't use it. Cause if it heats up. It doesn't cool down easily.. But if you don't have a case yes it heats up but it cools down significantly faster
@@RYANBdzeasy yea , i never use a case as well , and I prefer the texture of the phone. The heat issue is really kind of gone for Xperia 1 V , but still it will heat up quite a bit when playing heave graphic games like genshin impact.
@@Llucius1 It kinda hot as you feel it cause it is glass, but also significantly faster to cool down.
Nope, can confirm my 1 IV still overheats, quite a bit since the last update.
Overheating now like never before
Got an update today which I hope will fix the issue. TBH, I read a comment below about disabling app store and killing the ghost app. That worked and since then its been fine
Yeah I never had any real heat issues untill today. I updated my Xperia 1iv to the latest firmware update and right after the update my phone get hot with anything I do with it. Also my battery suddenly drains very fast. Watching this video even gave me the orange overheating sign. I'm so disappointed right now. Never had any issues. Now I can bake an egg on my phone...😓
I'm getting the same issue. There also seems to be an app that's transparent and I can't delete it? I have no viruses or malware. I wish I didn't update ...
Yes! That app bugs me every time I open the app section.
It errors out when trying to open it, good to the play store but nothing linked to it?
@@charliefree1056 yeah this is really weird...
Same here! Heating and battery drain suddenly happened after the update, but the most annoying part is that ghost icon!!
It links to an error page on playstore. So I went to force shut playstore, clear data and restart, nothing worked. Still there, phone still heating, battery still draining.
@@endlipuffy I found out the problem is in the Xperia Home app.(the Sony launcher) It keeps crashing and created the ghost icon. When I force shut the launcher and clear the cache my Phone goes back to normal, directly cools down en works properly. The problem is that after 15 minutes that app automatically reboots and the phone starts overheating again. Sony messed up the firmware update. Their own launcher is the cause of our phones overheating. All we can do is complain and wait untill they update it. I'm going to try a factory reset later today but I don't think that will make a difference.
I'm a courier and I bought this phone for both work and leisure. I thought such a premium device would do me proud with its fast processor, massive 12 gigs of ram and for leisure I was amazed by the camera quality.
In practice, this is one of the most frustrating phones I've ever used. Think about how many times my courier app calls on the camera and navigation. The phone heats up like the sun in no time and the Sony software throttles everything back to the point of basic software and functions becoming a laggy mess. Apps crash, the device becomes unresponsive, it's embarrassing.
To top it all, I have horrendous screen burn in on the once gorgeous display.
The updates have made it slightly less annoying than it was months ago (fewer triangle warnings) but the throttling is as bad as ever. I have my courier apps set as games so they arent throttled as much (in game enhancer) but it doesnt stop the phone from becoming a total laggy mess eventually.
The best fix I have is to constantly blast the IV with cold air attached to my vehicle's AC vent.
This whole experience is a total let down and I've lost all faith in Sony. I've been an Xperia fan since the Z2. I simply can't rely on this phone any longer.
Anyone else experience my woes with this phone?
I love the phone but still heats up a lot !! :( Like when I watch videos at 2160 on RUclips or the 4k Sony bravia films. Is there any cooling cases ?
Sorry, the problem still exist. I just updated to the latest software after buying it a few weeks ago, and today while taking my son video, the camera app keep shutting down after the too hot warning icon appear. Such a disappointment...
I've been debating getting a Sony phone for the past 2 years and I think I'm gonna go ahead and get the 1 Mark V when it comes out next June !
What the hell man, we don't even know anything about it yet.
@@kosztaz87 Yes we already do, you just don't inform yourself !
@@AlexYBITW I just did a quick search again, still nothing apart from some renders. And most definitely no reviews yet.
@@kosztaz87 Dude, you don't need to be a genius to guess what the 1 Mark V is going to be compared to the current 1 Mark IV. Come on.
Plus no, there's more than just renders.
@@AlexYBITW I don't see a point arguing about this. Have a nice day!
I have my new 5IV and I live in the Philippines (very hot right now) and when i got it, just turning on the photo pro app and exploring some settings on manual and it gets hot. Updating software and updating to android 13 the heating problem seems fixed but it heats when it's used longer. I did not experience overheating to the point that it disables the camera. I hope sony will continue to improve and optimize there software and photo and video pro app.
Question: What quality and Fps you're shooting the video when no heating problem?
Hi! Where did you purchase yours? I'm considering getting one myself. I checked Megamall and MoA and was told they it's not available in local stores.
64.1.A.0.913 and again overheating...
Not just overheating, on dual sim phone, the secondary sim refuses to register with its home provider network.
And now??

Well in the uk as of 5/18/23 with the latest software my Xperia 1 IV is still getting toasty

fully up to date Xperia 1 iv, phone over heated after 5 minutes of recording daughters dance performance, i don't think it is fixed at all, unless I have a faulty device.
Do you have insight into the Xperia 5 IV ? Has the overheating been fixed on that one too?

well after this latest update, its again overheating ,would like to know if thats the case with your device now?
Mines the same 5 iv
I didn't understand. Did the problem solved? I have the 5 IV with all the updates until now (March 2014) and I cannot use it!
March 2014? Or 2024?
Planning to buy this phone, cuz second hand is hella cheap. Does it still have heat issue in 2024?
Is it good to buy it or buy pro I in 2024
Mine still heats up bad; especially, with using FB video calls. But for the video recordings, 3 mins max on mine before it gets too hot with the warning showing.
What’s the temperature there when you’re recording?
@@TechOdyssey I will report back with a temperature reading for you.
You never had a green tint issue on the screen of this phone? I got two units of this phone and they both had green tint issues and finally I gave up and got the pixel 7 pro. I was so sad because I loved the camera accuracy of the Sony Xperia, but I couldn't tolerate the green tint on everything I see on the screen.
True. I bought 1 IV on amazon days. Before i do update phon was hot even on do photos/video...When I do update problem gones
Sorry for bad Grammar. Im from Sweden, so i hope you understand me anyway. 😅
I have an dilemma. Reading a lot bout this heating issues on Xperia 1IV etc. But i have an offer to get one on a 2 year contract, cuz i have been a long time customer at my operator. I will have paid like 780 dollars for phone, but they include an Playstation 5 disc version and Urbanista Phoenix headphones in the price. That alone are like worth atleast 500-600 dollars if i sell them(already owns an ps5)
So in the end i will like bought the phone for like maximum 300 bucks.🤪
Is it still worth it when i still will be on contract for 2 years and problably will lack updates before that contract will expend?
Don't get it, this phone is absolutely bugged.
Yea Sony really worked on its heat management to make it better
During your time using the IV or even with the V, did you ever notice screen issues at low brightness with green tint? And do you run at 120hz? I bought 3 of these phones used now, I noticed a terrible green tint on the first one, bought another to find that the screen was perfect only to have the same issue start to develop after 2 weeks (and it was a used phone too). They have what is called "black crush". Now I bought a third one used and it has a perfect screen again, but I am afraid of ruining that one too. 1 V has the same issue from what I see.
Hello, I m going to buy it used . Do you still have overheating?
They all get warm doing certain things but overall they seem normal to me. I actually don't use the cameras much though so I don't know how video recording is when it comes to heat.@@liviocinefra7666
I'd like to know now about the P7Pro after updates. It also would overheat in 4K as told to me by tech friends.

I just got Xperia 1 IV a day ago, I also updated the newest firmware 64.1.A.0.977, unfortunately, everything is overheating even use RUclips app, do you still use IV?
I do not. I got rid of it after I got my 1 V

Does this count for the Xperia 5 IV too? Thinking about buying one but the overheating issues are making me hold off.
Of course
Sorry. I don’t have an experience with the 5 IV. I would imagine it would be a similar one come though since it’s the same chip and that’s the culprit.
What's you software update now?
Let's hope they would bring the same solutions to their next phone be it Xperia 1 V or Pro-i II.
Can it be a reason for refund? i have 36 month warranty. I really hate this overheating during 45 ~ minutes of video call. It's crazy
Off subject but that Security Patch for the Pixel 7 is bogus. Issues with loading apps especially RUclips and RUclips Music.
Did you check to see if there are app updates, or get the latest version of google play store?

My Sony phone burns so hot just from regular use, nothing too exciting. Really don't understand why
Does anyone face the "green line" issue?

I love my Xperia 1 iv ❤️😄
Me too.
Do not get a Xperia 1 IV, had mine for 3 weeks after getting a refurbished like new phone from Giff Gaff for £500 which had Android 13 installed and decided to get one after watching lots of reviews saying the heating issue had been resolved. I am a pro photographer using all Sony kit, and was really looking forward to having the phone.
All was good for the first week, until I put in my new EE Sim Card and then my god this thing is in continuous competition with the sun on who can be hotter, it heats up doing the simplest of task, like google browsing, and if you turn the camera on, it is about 60 to 90 secs before you get the overheating warning. I have throttled everything back, lowered the screen brightness, turned off wifi and bluetooth when I am not using it, but alas the phone still wants to heat up and then shut down. I have gone through all my Apps to make sure they are not drawing on the phone in the background.
The phone is totally unusable, so have gone back to my trusty Note 10, whist I await delivery of an S23, and wouldn't trust that the issues would not also come up in the new xperia 1 V
Wish this was priced more in line with other flagships but I get that Sony isn't trying to make this appeal to the general flagship buying public but a niche group that they know will spend this kind of money and overlook an iPhone or Galaxy. It's a shame for the rest of us cause I would take this over a S22U/S23U any day for both hardware and software.
Now my 5 IV is overheating since latest patch 2 weeks ago
PLEAAAASE HELP....I GOT MINE I IV DAY ONE AND I LOVE ITHIS PHONE BUTTT,IS THERE OPTION TO.CALIBRATING KEYBOARD???IM STUCK FROM THIS...THANKS A LOT🤟
Bonjour,
pls 1 inch sensors on 1 mark 5 and love to see software side for pics for that price you should have options
Great review, well shilled, friend.
Is Sony Xperia iv still overheating I'm thinking about getting it?
Please review the Xiaomi 13 Ultra when it comes out!
Xiaomi isn’t sending me this phone. Sorry.
I'm n huge fan of Sony, so much so that I replaced my Xperia ZX1 with 1iv despite Sony having no support in my country. My previous phones worked so well. Boy, what a mistake! About a month after I had the phone, my camera stopped working, displaying "unknown error" and crashing the app. Flashlight doesn't work, says "camera in use". Local repair shop was unable to help. I imported replacement set of cameras in a last hope of resolving the issue myself and still te error persisted with the replaced hardware. I'm very disappointed in Sony. Wasted a lot of money on this broken device
I love the S23 Ultra but I really considered the Xperia IV before I finally went for it. I'll have to keep an eye out for the V!
Stick with the S23, my Xperia 1 iv randomly turns off, and wont turn off until power is plugged in. also signal is much weaker than other phone, my Mi 11 lite has better signal. its a shame as i truely love this phone but it will be my last sony

The phone is water proof, hence top notch seal.
That being said, maybe the ambient temperature doesn't play that much of a role when it comes to heating? The snapdragon series has a notorious history of overheating over the years.
I'm inclined to believing that, overheating is more of an innate defect than any other factors.
I've seen other YTBers adressing sony Xperia pro I overheating issues from seemingly quite cold places. If it overheats, it overheats.
