I got mine a few weeks ago and I love it. I'm a Galaga player and the game plays just like the old arcade ones. You don't need the handle on the back because there is a lip on the front where you can grab it well with your fingers.
Got my Ms. Pac man countercade replaced and now the audio works! Love it but now HSN has a Ms. Pac man partycade for sale. I had been waiting for the partycade because of the bigger screen. Hoping arcade 1up comes out with a Ms. Pac man game console.
CoolToy, Thought I'd let you know I got my QVC Ms. Pac-Man countercade. Thanks again for the early reveal, so I was able to get in on that low introductory price! As you know, my biggest concern with the smaller size countercade was that owning the original Dig Dug it already had a marginally cramped button to joystick layout. Well, I have to hand it to Arcade1up. They somehow managed to shrink their countercade and give comparable button placement. In fact, on the Ms. Pac-Man, the action button is actually further from the Joystick than on the bigger Dig Dug 1st gen! Now granted, the original Dig Dug model had two action buttons, one on either side of the joystick, so you can play either right handed or left handed, but I'm willing to forgo that functionality to get a less cramped experience. That gave me the confidence to order the 4 in 1 Pac-Man 40th Anniversary countercade. It looks like that one also has the same less cramped joystick to button ratio as the Ms. Pac-Man! I had some Kohl's cash, so I got $5 off and free shipping and it came to around $152 with tax. I hope you'll be getting one of these as well as I'd like to hear your take :) The only thing that I don't like about the countercades are their screen quality. If you sit directly in front of them, they're fine, but if you move a little to the left or right, or aren't sitting at eye level (especially on the Ms. Pac-Man), the view is less than appealing. On the 1st gen models, the screens are really washed out (blacks are greys), and on the 2nd gen models, they lean toward the darker side, crushing the image and making the colors inaccurate. I know these are cheaper machines, but I wish Arcade1up would understand that there are some things you can't skimp on. There are many great and cost effective monitors at this size out there and raising the price by $10 to $20 I think is worth doing to avoid another reputation hit. Arcade1up continues to improve, so I continue to support them, and they have proven to listen to their fans. Thanks again CoolToy for letting me know about the early release! vgv

Got my 40th Ann. Pacman version - These wave 2's do scale and look MUCH better than wave 1. And in 40th the player 1/2 button placement is in further and closer to the stick than the 4 game Ms. Pacman reviewed here, so my left hand tends to rest outside of those buttons nearer the control deck edge, and I've had no accidental button presses - great! I imagine the QVC Ms. Pacman w/ only 2 games will have the same button placement as the 40th since it only has one action button on the right, instead of 2 in the version that COOLTOY reviewed here. Problem arises when wanting to rest RIGHT hand when playing Galaga or Dig Dug - it falls off the edge and you have to hover your right hand instead. That's the one benefit wave 1 cabs have over these wave 2's, a larger control deck to rest both hands, and that's important for playability. But wave 2 LOOKS much better proportioned and is priced better.
Is the 40th ann Pac-man version the one with the brown woodgrain look? Because thats the one im considering buying. Im mainly wondering how close the joystick feels to playing on a proper arcade cabinet (or if its any better than a plastic plug n play). Also, I’m wondering if the sound is pitched up slightly because I’ve seen that be the case in some video reviews. The cheapest ive seen it these days is around 130 dollars so im really trying not to impulse buy.
Hey! When it comes to saving money and Space in the house I definitely take these countercades any day. The game lineup on this is fabulous. Pac-Man plus in my opinion is more challenging! Galaga that’s a major plus on this!

CoolToy, My Pac-Man 40th Anniversary edition countercade just came in. That was fast! It's just as great as the Ms. Pac-Man countercade and the action button placement is fantastic as it is further away from the joystick. I now love countercade Dig Dug and of course, GALAGA! It does have the same lower quality screen, but still good enough at center and eye-level. But there is a bigger issue on the Pac-Man 40th as you mentioned seeing on the Ms. Pac-Man countercade and that is the Player 1 and Player 2 placement,. On the Pac-Man 40th, these buttons are even closer to the joystick. I can understand Arcade1up wanting to keep the graphics on the control panel looking as close to the original as possible, but to do so, they had to move the P1/P2 buttons further in and closer to the joystick. Playing Galaga, I am constantly hearing the "coin up" sound as I hit these buttons with the side of my hand as I play. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it is a bigger problem on the Pac-Man 40th. Loving both countercades though and happy to have them :) vgv
I love the price. I love the games that are included. I don't know how I feel about the size. I have the 4 in 1 partycade and I love the size of it. But I really want to pick up a Ms Pac Man along with a 4 in 1 Missle Command partycade and I'll have everything that I want for the house.
Thanks for the honest review. In my opinion, i would rather spend money on a machine that has more games in it, rather than just only one or two, even four, especially since this option is available elsewhere. So I wonder why don't they add more games? Also, what about copyright? I am a bit surprised how are they managing to sell these machines in retail stores. I have heard about a customized arcade company in the US where they got in a huge legal trouble because of this. Nevertheless, graphics and size look great! i wish them best of luck.
budbrigman I do like how you can change the vector graphics to be however bright/bold you want, but the sit-down bench in front of the yoke makes it such a unique experience. I can’t wait for Big Buck Hunter next!!
If you want a handle, go to the hardware store and get a cabinet handle and some large washers for either side of the screw holes. If there is no electronics in the way, use a jig saw and cut a rounded rectangle out of the back panel and frame it with something around the internal edge.

Oh no. Now I wish they placed the player select buttons on the front of the CP. Either that or move the player select buttons to where the on/off and volume controls currently are and move those buttons to the front of the CP instead. Damn you Doug, where were you when they were play testing?
They are bad, and even worse/closer on the Pac-Man 40th countercade. I have same exact issue of pushing them constantly when playing. You have to consciously hover your hand un-naturally above them while playing.
@@billford171 Oh, boy - My 40th Ann. Pacman countercade is arriving tomorrow. This issue doesn't sound good -- See, the wave 1's were a GOOD compromise between full (3/4) size and the other mini-cades that are out there. I'm worried these new wave 2's are too small to actually enjoy playing... I know the community cried wave 1's were too big, but, the customer does NOT always know what they want. If you just want a display piece buy a Numskull, Replicade, or MyArcade... A1up's should be for actual playing.
@Allen G yes, they really should have moved the buttons to the front panel with the speaker. Sadly this model weren't at CES for me to play test, otherwise I would have certainly mentioned an issue then.

They went from one end of the spectrum to the other IMO- the original countercades were a bit oversized but these ones are now too small. They should have either made the control panel an inch or so wider OR move the player 1/2 buttons somewhere else so there is more room for your hands.
These just popped back up on QVC again today. I went ahead and ordered one. Didn't know it was available somewhere else with dig dug and Galaga on it as well ! Who's selling that version ?
NM , I figured it out. For now I'll stick with my QVC 2 game version. I think its pink trim and extra bottom/front graphic looks better than the yellow trimmed versions.
CoolToy, Thanks for your honest review as always (and tipping me in early on the QVC deal :) ). The original Pac-Man countercade was a good size, but when I bought the original countercade for Dig Dug, the buttons were a little too close to the joystick. It sounds like this new smaller countercade may be even trickier to play with bigger hands (guilty as charged). I'm still looking forward to getting at least the Ms. Pac-Man QVC version of the new countercade. I don't know if the pictures on QVC's website are accurate, but I hope they are. There's an extra Ms. Pac-Man and ghost graphic on the front. Thanks again! vgv
I agree with all your observations. I picked this version up from Walmart. Cancelled my QVC right away when I saw your video on this 4 in 1. Glad I did. Worth the extra money for more games. Is it easy to upgrade the controller on these? I can see how I might want a better one down the road. As is, great little machine.
I want NBA JAM , Marvel, Mortal Kombat, and Donkey Kong countercade when ever they become available. That said, I have PacMan, DigDug already and QVC Ms PacMan is on the way later this month!
Maybe Arcade1Up can come up with a way to disable the start buttons on the side if the joystick isn't in the center position. If the joystick *is* in the center position, enable the start buttons. That would probably be harder to do than I imagine it would, though.
I think the screen is too small in my opinion / & would be nice to have 2 speakers 🔊 🔊 inside it / & a speed up option & 5 lives option also would be cool to & light up marquee /
So I received mine only to find out the sound didn't work. Back to the store it goes. The colors look off from the original Ms. Pac Man. I did like the smaller size and it fit nicely next to my partycade. Too bad I received a defective one.
Waiting on my QVC model. Not too worried about the different game line up, I love Ms PacMan and Super Pac Man. But I still do want to find one of the early, larger models to mod it. Handle in the back, huh? Sounds like an included option on a bartop kit you recently featured 😊😉😎
if this just had ms.pacman and galaga, that would be fine with me... BUT, BOTH of those games would need speed up/fast shoot options. I instead built a small cabinet with a computer monitor, and put in a 60-1 jamma pcb. it doesnt look as nice as this unit, but, it has 60 games which includes the fast shoot/fast move for ms.pacman/galaga.
Excellent review. I did order the 2 game version though. Glad they put the 2 action buttons next to each other. They need to be that way in order to play dig dug 2. On the dig dug countercade, they put 1 button on each side, making that game impossible to play. later -1
I ordered the PacMan 40th today: I think PacMan is almost as good as Ms. PacMan, and I really like both DigDug and Galaga. If they ever come out with a CounterCade that plays arcade Asteroids, I will definitely want that. My biggest complaint about these machines is that, frankly, only four games is a bit skimpy of the makers. There were literally hundreds of 80s arcade games - would it really have been that much harder for them to have included 10 or 12 games instead of just four?
It is a shame the only way to get 12 games is to drop around 400 bucks on one thats about 1 meter tall. Definitely wont fit in my house but at least i have that pac-man shaped plug n play. But still, id like to know if the Pac-Man 40th countercade is a good buy. Its around 130 dollars right now
@@cooltoy Arcade1Up has played their cards wisely by maintaining the price of the first generation and depleting the stock. Hopefully owners of the original builds will see the value of upgrading and we'll get a bunch of used units on the market.
It's nice for what it is but there insistence of using poor sticks is ridiculous at this point. i;m sure they could broker a nice bulk deal on happ joysticks.

therexershow I thought the machine had shorted out on me for a second until I realized what happened. 😆Probably would have been better functionality for Arcade1Up to have put the 1p and 2p buttons down on the front speaker panel instead. Free up some more space for people to rest their hands
COOLTOY I don’t understand why they didn’t put them on the right or front like you say. The original had the start buttons on the right . It’s like they don’t even test the machines beforehand. I feel like they tried to do the 20 yr reunion control panel and put them on the left but they didn’t have to do that.
@@cooltoy same, I thought I got a bad unit. I started hearing the coin count go up randomly and had no idea what was going on, took 2 rounds and a jump to the home screen to realize my hand was pushing the buttons.

These are cute as a button, but they're way, way too small for me to see, with my vision. LOL I got a Did Dug one, only because it had that game, and it's graphics, at the time. These make great dead space fillers, though. Oh, I totally get your handle issue. I do the same thing, when I need move my Dig Dug coiuntercade. You should head over to a diy shop, and pick up a cabinet door handle, or window sash handle, to bolt onto the back panel, for carrying the game. Thanks for the video.
Just saw the NeoGeo MVS X website ($499 US$)and I was wondering if you think it is what the NeoGeo X Gold was suppose to be. 50 games and can be setup as a countercade or a 5' tall upright.
I got a one quarter scale game of Ms Pac Man by Numbskull about a month ago.I am having a problem now with the joystick when i move right.Therefore it sucks!
I have same exact issues with mine, but with the Pac-man 40th the player 1/2 buttons are even closer to the joystick, making it even harder to play. Screen is horrible, could possibly be the worst screen I have seen on a device since I bought a $20 android tablet.
We bought the Ms Pacman for Christmas. It's ok but it only gives one extra life so it's impossible to make it much further then 100,000. Very unhappy with this feature.
Helps me decide that Ill go for the cheaper 2 game version. Never will play anything other than Ms Pac anyway and the other titles are on multiple other cabs, pis, consoles anyway. Wanted to try 1 of these to see if it was up my alley. As always great job ginger
I watched a video on youtube from someone that has the Wal-mart countercade Ms. Pac-Man, and they were showing all the issues it has. Such as the music playing too fast and when you died on the level with the blue maze you were sent back to the beginning maze, also sometimes when you died you would come back but the maze would be missing like half the pellets. This was on Ms. Pac-Man. Have you experienced any glitches like these or something else?
Darrin S the video you are referring to was someone who didn’t know what they were talking about. The “glitches” he spoke about were due to the fact that he had set the game on 2 player mode and didn’t even notice lol. I believe that person also turned off comments on that video because they were getting badly roasted
@@cooltoy LOL i just watched that video again. You are 100% correct he started a 2 player game. His complaints are all invalid since he doesn't know what's he is doing or is just being stupid on purpose. Does the sound seem sped up to you though?
I was thinking about getting the Arcade1UP Street fighter for close to $500 but I'm afraid something will happen and it will stop working. I would take a chance if there was someone who fixes these type of arcade machines if something goes wrong. I may have to settle for the countertop instead. Are you able to add extra games to the countertop? If so, how do you go about doing so? Great vid, btw!
you can't add extra games to these machines without completely removing all the stock components and PCB and replacing it with something like a raspberry pi.

Bo Knows yea I posted the new X-men vs Street Fighter Walmart preorder listings yesterday in a RUclips community posting. Shipping fee seems like it might be an error on Walmart’s part. Even if it’s not, you can always have an online item shipped to a local Walmart store and pick it up there for free
depends on the surface it's resting on and how aggressive one's playing style is I suppose, but it's a pretty light overall so I can see that being a problem for some.
So people complained about the small screen on the gen 1 countercades. But rather than use a bigger screen, they gave us "the illusion" of a bigger screen by shrinking the whole damn unit. Now the control deck is too small. A1U pulled a bullshit move there. Glad I'm not in the market for one of these.

I love the price. I love the games that are included. I don't know how I feel about the size. I have the 4 in 1 partycade and I love the size of it. But I really want to pick up a Ms Pac Man along with a 4 in 1 Missle Command partycade and I'll have everything that I want for the house.

Thanks for the honest review. In my opinion, i would rather spend money on a machine that has more games in it, rather than just only one or two, even four, especially since this option is available elsewhere. So I wonder why don't they add more games?
Also, what about copyright? I am a bit surprised how are they managing to sell these machines in retail stores. I have heard about a customized arcade company in the US where they got in a huge legal trouble because of this.

budbrigman I do like how you can change the vector graphics to be however bright/bold you want, but the sit-down bench in front of the yoke makes it such a unique experience. I can’t wait for Big Buck Hunter next!!
If you want a handle, go to the hardware store and get a cabinet handle and some large washers for either side of the screw holes. If there is no electronics in the way, use a jig saw and cut a rounded rectangle out of the back panel and frame it with something around the internal edge.
QVC has a frogger countercade now on special value for $99. The Pac-Man and ms Pac-Man are also on sale.

Oh no. Now I wish they placed the player select buttons on the front of the CP. Either that or move the player select buttons to where the on/off and volume controls currently are and move those buttons to the front of the CP instead. Damn you Doug, where were you when they were play testing?
They are bad, and even worse/closer on the Pac-Man 40th countercade. I have same exact issue of pushing them constantly when playing. You have to consciously hover your hand un-naturally above them while playing.
@@billford171 Oh, boy - My 40th Ann. Pacman countercade is arriving tomorrow. This issue doesn't sound good -- See, the wave 1's were a GOOD compromise between full (3/4) size and the other mini-cades that are out there. I'm worried these new wave 2's are too small to actually enjoy playing... I know the community cried wave 1's were too big, but, the customer does NOT always know what they want. If you just want a display piece buy a Numskull, Replicade, or MyArcade... A1up's should be for actual playing.
@Allen G yes, they really should have moved the buttons to the front panel with the speaker. Sadly this model weren't at CES for me to play test, otherwise I would have certainly mentioned an issue then.

They went from one end of the spectrum to the other IMO- the original countercades were a bit oversized but these ones are now too small. They should have either made the control panel an inch or so wider OR move the player 1/2 buttons somewhere else so there is more room for your hands.

NM , I figured it out. For now I'll stick with my QVC 2 game version. I think its pink trim and extra bottom/front graphic looks better than the yellow trimmed versions.

Thanks for your honest review as always (and tipping me in early on the QVC deal :) ). The original Pac-Man countercade was a good size, but when I bought the original countercade for Dig Dug, the buttons were a little too close to the joystick. It sounds like this new smaller countercade may be even trickier to play with bigger hands (guilty as charged).
I'm still looking forward to getting at least the Ms. Pac-Man QVC version of the new countercade. I don't know if the pictures on QVC's website are accurate, but I hope they are. There's an extra Ms. Pac-Man and ghost graphic on the front.

Great video as always. I like that it has 4 games now which I caught the QVC deal and got that extra code and got it for 90 bucks.
I've been playing Pac/Ms. Pac with the speed up chip ever since 1985. It's the only way I would play it now. Cool countertop, though.

I agree with all your observations. I picked this version up from Walmart. Cancelled my QVC right away when I saw your video on this 4 in 1. Glad I did. Worth the extra money for more games. Is it easy to upgrade the controller on these? I can see how I might want a better one down the road. As is, great little machine.

Maybe Arcade1Up can come up with a way to disable the start buttons on the side if the joystick isn't in the center position. If the joystick *is* in the center position, enable the start buttons. That would probably be harder to do than I imagine it would, though.
I think the screen is too small in my opinion / & would be nice to have 2 speakers 🔊 🔊 inside it / & a speed up option & 5 lives option also would be cool to & light up marquee /
So I received mine only to find out the sound didn't work. Back to the store it goes. The colors look off from the original Ms. Pac Man. I did like the smaller size and it fit nicely next to my partycade. Too bad I received a defective one.

What brand of joystick do you recommend. I’m shopping for one online for my Pac-Man partycade
if this just had ms.pacman and galaga, that would be fine with me... BUT, BOTH of those games would need speed up/fast shoot options. I instead built a small cabinet with a computer monitor, and put in a 60-1 jamma pcb. it doesnt look as nice as this unit, but, it has 60 games which includes the fast shoot/fast move for ms.pacman/galaga.

Mortal Kombat has a big milestone anniversary coming up in 2022. Other upgraded older cabinets might see a release later next year.

I ordered the PacMan 40th today: I think PacMan is almost as good as Ms. PacMan, and I really like both DigDug and Galaga. If they ever come out with a CounterCade that plays arcade Asteroids, I will definitely want that.
My biggest complaint about these machines is that, frankly, only four games is a bit skimpy of the makers. There were literally hundreds of 80s arcade games - would it really have been that much harder for them to have included 10 or 12 games instead of just four?
It is a shame the only way to get 12 games is to drop around 400 bucks on one thats about 1 meter tall. Definitely wont fit in my house but at least i have that pac-man shaped plug n play. But still, id like to know if the Pac-Man 40th countercade is a good buy. Its around 130 dollars right now
Is the screen and LCD controller identical in the 2.0 version? It would be interesting to open it up and see if it's mod-worthy.
this uses a different screen than the generation 1 countercades. I personally don't see these being good modding candidates due to the reduced size.
@@cooltoy Arcade1Up has played their cards wisely by maintaining the price of the first generation and depleting the stock. Hopefully owners of the original builds will see the value of upgrading and we'll get a bunch of used units on the market.
It's nice for what it is but there insistence of using poor sticks is ridiculous at this point. i;m sure they could broker a nice bulk deal on happ joysticks.

it's being sold direct through Arcade1Up's website, similar to how Burger Time was done. No idea when they plan on putting up for sale though.
Since i currently don't have the space for a full size arcade from this brand there is a good chance I'll pick one of these up.

therexershow I thought the machine had shorted out on me for a second until I realized what happened. 😆Probably would have been better functionality for Arcade1Up to have put the 1p and 2p buttons down on the front speaker panel instead. Free up some more space for people to rest their hands
COOLTOY I don’t understand why they didn’t put them on the right or front like you say. The original had the start buttons on the right . It’s like they don’t even test the machines beforehand. I feel like they tried to do the 20 yr reunion control panel and put them on the left but they didn’t have to do that.
@@cooltoy same, I thought I got a bad unit. I started hearing the coin count go up randomly and had no idea what was going on, took 2 rounds and a jump to the home screen to realize my hand was pushing the buttons.
Got my 40th Ann. and been playing it more today...Yeah, maybe they could have made just the control deck larger, even if it means it over hangs the rest of the unit a bit. It really does LOOK better proportioned, though, and the price is better. Happy the countercade line is continuing at all as I think I saw in one vide John D. say it was almost on its way out. ...Maybe I can re-skin a wave 1 to look like Ms. Pac-man using the internals from a wave 2? $, I know...

These are cute as a button, but they're way, way too small for me to see, with my vision. LOL I got a Did Dug one, only because it had that game, and it's graphics, at the time. These make great dead space fillers, though. Oh, I totally get your handle issue. I do the same thing, when I need move my Dig Dug coiuntercade. You should head over to a diy shop, and pick up a cabinet door handle, or window sash handle, to bolt onto the back panel, for carrying the game. Thanks for the video.

I got a one quarter scale game of Ms Pac Man by Numbskull about a month ago.I am having a problem now with the joystick when i move right.Therefore it sucks!
I have same exact issues with mine, but with the Pac-man 40th the player 1/2 buttons are even closer to the joystick, making it even harder to play. Screen is horrible, could possibly be the worst screen I have seen on a device since I bought a $20 android tablet.
I want one of these, only if it has the speed hack. Are there other future versions with this included, that you know of?
Doubt it. Standard speed is the only official released version.

We bought the Ms Pacman for Christmas. It's ok but it only gives one extra life so it's impossible to make it much further then 100,000. Very unhappy with this feature.

I watched a video on youtube from someone that has the Wal-mart countercade Ms. Pac-Man, and they were showing all the issues it has. Such as the music playing too fast and when you died on the level with the blue maze you were sent back to the beginning maze, also sometimes when you died you would come back but the maze would be missing like half the pellets. This was on Ms. Pac-Man. Have you experienced any glitches like these or something else?
Darrin S the video you are referring to was someone who didn’t know what they were talking about. The “glitches” he spoke about were due to the fact that he had set the game on 2 player mode and didn’t even notice lol. I believe that person also turned off comments on that video because they were getting badly roasted
@@cooltoy LOL i just watched that video again. You are 100% correct he started a 2 player game. His complaints are all invalid since he doesn't know what's he is doing or is just being stupid on purpose. Does the sound seem sped up to you though?
I was thinking about getting the Arcade1UP Street fighter for close to $500 but I'm afraid something will happen and it will stop working. I would take a chance if there was someone who fixes these type of arcade machines if something goes wrong. I may have to settle for the countertop instead. Are you able to add extra games to the countertop? If so, how do you go about doing so? Great vid, btw!
you can't add extra games to these machines without completely removing all the stock components and PCB and replacing it with something like a raspberry pi.

These countercade must have tremendous movement when playing due to the lack of weight, right?
depends on the surface it's resting on and how aggressive one's playing style is I suppose, but it's a pretty light overall so I can see that being a problem for some.

So people complained about the small screen on the gen 1 countercades. But rather than use a bigger screen, they gave us "the illusion" of a bigger screen by shrinking the whole damn unit. Now the control deck is too small. A1U pulled a bullshit move there. Glad I'm not in the market for one of these.
