- Since the release of Pokemon X and Y back in 2013 Greninja has been a fan favorite Pokemon. However it seems like the Pokemon Company has been treating the Ninja Frog poorly. It began with the dexit controversy back in Sword and Shield and it's gotten much worse.

Greninja deserved to win in the XYZ anime. It's telling when some of the writers came out and said they wanted Ash to win. As for the Battle Bond nerf, it was just bizarre to me. It got nerfed the same gen they introduced Palafin, which honestly felt insulting. My man has to do some actual positioning to get a 110 boost, but this guy switches out and boom, just like that, near 200 bst boost. It already has buffed water shuriken (jet punch). To add insult to injury, they retconned Ash Greninja despite teasing it's existence in Nemona's house..? Keldeo can have a form change without a BST change, so if the BST was such a problem, why couldn't they implement the nerfs as they are, without retconning Ash-Greninja. Have it transform when the ability is procked. This would also remind the player that "Hey, switch out now and your boosts are gone". And removing the buff to Water Shuriken for no reason.
Did Chesnaught and Delphox deserve better? Yes, better abilities and Battle Bond for all 3, but that in no way justifies Greninja's downfall.
Meh. Just as well I found XYZ overhyped anyway.

The nerf to Battle Bond is the most brutal insult known to Pokemon, when I saw that message and the stat boosts, it was equivalent to being spit in the face

it would be totally awesome if in a 4 episode ark a bit before the master's 8, ash could suddenly feel strange and then see through greninja's eyes that he was in trouble and team flare was trying to capture him , and then transform into Ash-greninja and beat them with an epic water shuriken. then ash would go to the Kalos region and beat team flare for a final time and also remove all the roots, so greninja could come back and stay with ash. then ash finds out he's battling alan in the master's 8 and use greninja for his last pokemon against alan's mega charizard x and finally beat him with the golden water shuriken that should have won in the kalos league.

My problem with the Pokémon games is when they nerf Pokémon when a new gen comes out. Despite the fact the new Pokémon would still fold it. Gengar is one that comes to mind

If Game Freak would have been equal by giving mega evolution to the Kalos starters as well, all of this would have been averted.

Here in my opinion(even though ash greninja is my favorite) on why they did it. The other two starters didn’t have any special forms and they didn’t want him to outshine the others(though charizard can two megas in a single game and that is fine apparently) I am hoping when the gen 6 remakes come out, they bring back ash greninja and give the other starters final evo’s a new form. I was thinking for chesnaught, since he is known to shield and be defensive, maybe if he reaches a certain Hp threshold he can go into his form. Don’t know what we can do with delphox though as a condition
I dont see any problems giving exclusivity to some Pokémon (as charizard) if they are popular, (greninja is the Most popular) they deserve it

I can understand not having it back in journeys as it's no longer ash's pokemon. With the exception of the flashback, that specific part was bs. Not bringing it into gen 8. Ok Whatever i guess wanna focus on the new feature. Knocking out the megas entirely was not ok. Bringing back greninja with its battlebond form to not let it change it's appearance was downright EVIL.

I think a reason why we didn't see Ash-Greninja in the flashback to the Kalos League is that it's in Ash's perspective, and he saw through Greninja's eyes during the battle
Excuse me, Greninja was fighting a Charizard that took down a Digard fort, mega grout on and make a call yogurt and megara Quaser all at the same time so you cannot say that’s embarrassing. That was an amazing battle, and Greninja almost beat him.
Gonna assume you mean Charizard should have won anyway because it fought both primals and Mega Rayquaza, alongside around half a dozen other megas Greninja never had the opportunity of facing.

The fact they had to make greninja lose after everything he went through to get on top of his form is just disrespectful. Sceptile was not his only rival he had to settle a score with and they just robbed him
I don't care how far in the past it is, that's a seriously overused excuse. People cannot move on or forget about something that's already sent the fanbase up in arms. Sure ash won the Alola league and defeated Leon but that's not a Proper redemption for what they did in 2016
When Ash and Greninja defeat Alain in a battle, whether in the masters eight or otherwise, only then will that league loss be redeemed and fans will get over it

@thatboyminus Sometimes, 1 boost is all you need to revenge sweep if set up properly. Greninja is no longer an OP pseudo mega sweeper, but a more balanced revenge taker. I for one am happy to see this pokémon down to earth and not extremely overshadowing all the other starters.

I can't believe just how Greninja has been treated in the Pokémon games and anime since XYZ and Gen 6. No Ash-Greninja, in the games, protein changed now, and the whole way Greninja could be used is terrible! I mean, it was bad enough not having Greninja in Gen 8 games, and I mean, why couldn't they even let it have one more treatment, for example a G-max form?! Just think, Greninja could've had G-max Water Shuriken, and used other moves like Max Darkness, and other moves! I mean, even if it could only dynamax it would've been great, but no, nothing happened! I can't even think how sad it was that Greninja wasn't treated well in Journeys. Why couldn't in the final 11 episodes of Aim To Be A Pokémon Master, couldn't the anime writers at least let Lucario return to see Greninja and maybe Misty and Brock saw it?! I still love Greninja, but I'm sad with how it was treated after XY and Gen 6.

In Indigo League, it was literally stated by Ash that he was travelling with Brock and Misty for a year while they were on their way to get his 8th badge. Plus, Burnet was pregnant by the end of Sun and Moon and the next time we saw her, she had a baby which means 9 months had passed. It’s obviously more than just a couple of months passing by. They just don’t care about aging the characters even if some time passes.

@Fated I was referring to taking and inventing something like protean and above all BATTLE BOND, a skill that gives more stats than the mega and that only he possesses. That is more abusive than even the charizard thing. As for the competitive one, I didn't like it when it was good or now that it's bad. As for the anime, I semi-accept the development of the character. But, that they give it an unfair shape for the other two starters and that the anime ones have forced the games to put it in, which is the reason why I like it even less.
As a secondary due to its popularity, they were given a black shiny. Which many put them in the favorites.
And as a secondary I do not like its design, although that is more something personal

Although Greninja has strong abilities that make him very strong, so do other starter Pokémon such as Blaziken (Has both a busted mega and a hidden ability more busted than Battle Bond), Serperior (has contrary which boosts stats that would’ve been decreased, this brought him to the OU tier), and Rillaboom (has Grassy Surge which heals and boosts attack).
2. While I do agree with you that the other Gen 6 starters should’ve also gotten something cool like Battle Bond, the thing is Greninja isn’t the only starter that overshadows the other two. Ex. Charizard having two mega evo’s while Blastoise and Venusaur have only one, or Typhlosion having a unique Hisuian form that catapulted him to OU unlike the other two Johto starters.
3. I have no idea where you heard Ash Gren was forced into the games but I’d very much like to see proof of it.
4. You do know that the Pokémon are given shiny forms BEFORE they are released to the public, right? So Greninja got his shiny black form BEFORE he was popular.

@@reaperblack0075 Again, Greninja isn’t unique in being the only Pokémon that can do that. Rayquaza just had to know Dragon Ascent to mega evolve AND can also hold a held item. Also while it is true that more Pokémon know Contrary and Speed Boost than Battle Bond, you’re forgetting to mention that besides Serperior and Blaziken none of the other Pokémon that know Contrary and/or Speed Boost (aside from Enamorus and Espathra respectively) are even good competitive wise. As for Protean being created specifically for him, this is untrue (Kecleon also had Protean when the ability was introduced in Gen 6). You also ignore that the other Gen 6 starters also had abilities specifically for them (Delphox w/ Magician and Chesnaught w/ Bulletproof).
