I have a feeling that this song was only chosen as the main theme to represent Megamix because of the click sounds. Think about it, the Switch ads always start with the familiar click, so it would make sense. Plus, the PV's focus on travelling would be perfect considering what the Switch is.
This is refreshing PV, tbh. The background isn’t stuck with one place, and you can tell that they gave their effort with this PV. It could’ve been worse; it would’ve been stuck as a complete dance PV with no substance (shout-out to X LMAO)
Call it my unpopular opinion, but I felt that X was still okay [graphic wise]. The resolutions were fixed which resulted in sharp pvs/menus, etc (I'm looking at you, Megamix and f). Megamix's resolution ranges from crisp (Left Behind City/Torinoko City looked really good) to absolute pixelly mess (Decorator looks terrible). In addition, it feels like they didn't bother fixing lighting at all; you can see the contrast on lighting on F2nd+X (e.g. This Is The Happiness and Peace of Mind Committee on F2nd), but it looks like a solid colour in Megamix because they used FT models which were supposed to be used with better shaders. In Megamix Sweet Devil, the module's outfit actually bugs out. Her skin renders okay, but her clothes are suddenly in darkened lighting which is even more obvious when you use a module with white clothes. X's mistake is all dance pvs, but it's consistent in quality. Megamix's mistake is sprinkles of quality here and there, and nowhere else.
X isnt like the other games game wise, X is more of a game where you are performing with the vocaloids, like having a concert with them instead of full on Pv story things like the other games in my opinion (I have future tone, and x)
I can see that some people prefer the Mega 39 version over the FT version; guessing it's the shaders. Saw a comparison video on ODDS & ENDS of FT, Project Diva F, and Mega 39 version; Project Diva F seems to have the more anime look to it, FT does a good job with the lighting effects with the environment, and Mega 39 kind of has too much brightness on the module. I'm no expert on Vocaloid modules, but that's just my arm chair speculation.
Could it be that ODDS & ENDS was made FOR Project Diva F? And Catch the Wave was made FOR Mega39s? Just look at PVs made specifically for Arcade/FT like Cendrillion or Age Age Again (They're Mirai ports but constructed from the ground up for Arcade/FT), PVs will always look the best when they're developed with a specific game in mind. Of course PVs made for F look the best in F, of course PVs made for Mega39s look best with the toon shader, it's like comparing a fish and a dog on how well they run! Just asinine.

2:53 I love the abstract representation of social media websites by their logo's color scheme alone to avoid copyright they did here. The best hint to this is the orange/purple gradient, which is obviously instagram, and the light blue, which is twitter.

To be completely honest the old modules show how badly they've aged without the toon shader, I will always believe that Art Direction > Graphics/resolution. This is why the original PD on PSP still looks great.

Well, it depends on the song's pv. For this one, I feel like it looks better with the toon shader maybe because the pv was meant to look flat and it is very cheerful which compliments the toon shader very well. To me, the toon shader looks a bit awkward with backgrounds with somple objects that are obviously 3D as it makes the vocaloids seem out of place (eg Melancholy). This is just an opinion and my own observation. It would cool if they give the option to switch the toon shader on and off, but at the same mega39's is for the switch so we should also consider it's power to run the game.

The background is really badly done, because unlike this one, it's so very obvious that it's a video and they're basically dancing in front of a green screen. Their legs are sliding around as if they have no weight etc. So, yeah. Not everything is as thought out as it should be.

I also like that with this shader, we can see what looks like iridescent on the black in her outfit! With the toon shader that gets hidden, I checked last night when I turned on MegaMix.

If this game was probably in FT, it'll probably keep the toon shader similar to Interviewer and Two faced lovers, but I know the toon shader in those PVS are different than in Mega39, so that'll probably most likely be the case if this were to be in FT. It's honestly a better refresher without the OVERSATURATION of Mega39 so I can at least see their noses and notice how the new module has shit graphics for hair. Hope they fix the new module for FT so they can sneak in details rather than what they covered under the filter.
I don't hate the new module,but I do have to admit: this PV isn't anything special in mega mix,and it's worse without toon shader. Edit: the thing is, it's not even a "lazy PV" or anything...it just doesn't work quite right.

Most PVs in the game that have 2D backgrounds use toon shader (Piano*Girl, Two-faced Lovers, etc.)

The PC port of the PDAFT arcade machine already has these songs and a modder added custom shaders to Catch the Wave to make it look better.
