      I been doing it for 22 years and I have had some serious injuries to my ears, but I was pretty mindful and iced it, massaged it, but luckily nothing really for some reason. I did do many types of stuff in between and I think it helped by giving them a break.

      If you are well-off enoughhh (money-wise or enjoyment-wise), then you actually should be... potentially.
      So many people after winning the lottery, say they wish they never did. You can look into that if you wanna.
      Mostly it's about people who aren't good with money, winning the lottery. Also everyone they know wanting money and their whole social situation turning to shit. Also people coming after their money (in a variety of ways. Good luck if you're kind of old and your kids don't like you lol).

    At first my right ear got just a little bit swollen at the bottom. No big deal I thought, but still I went to the doctor because I didn't want it to get worse. Too bad it was too late to drain it anymore as it had hardened. I kept training and little by little my ear got more swollen, from the bottom and kinda inside the earlobe, in front of the ear canal. I think I could have drained it at some point but it was always swelling after each session so it would have been too much trouble. Last thursday after training my ear got even more swollen and I finally went to get the new blood drained. It didn't help that much and now my right ear is almost sealed shut. I can't fit an ear pod in there, I can't sleep on my side, training hurts and I don't know if it has affected my hearing, plus it looks pretty bad. I am ordering ear guards right now because I can't afford to lose hearing. Just remember my story when you are getting your first ear pains.

    Despite years of boxing&wrestling, it wasn't until one of my last times competing at an "Oldtimers" wrestling tournament (where I came in 2nd), i finally got an ear ruffled enough to have fluid drained, no cauliflower ear, it healed fine, I thought it seemed funny that it took that long to happen. I've got some friends who's ears look like there's no channel for sound to get inside,some with less damage,& a few of us with no trace of ear trauma.at all. Plenty of red ears temporarily all along the way, but no treatment needed except for the one drainage. Your video is as always pretty insightful. Well Done again!

Many others get too comfortable with it to the point where they defend by allowing their opponent to tire on their neck and head area.

    The main cause for me is getting caught in triangles and trying to fight my way out too much. There is a triangle escape that works pretty well but the trade off is that it will put the ear closest to the opponents leg through a lot and that was the cause of the only time I decided to get it drained.

  • @Docinaplane
    @Docinaplane 5 лет назад +3

    I was going to talk about treatment, but I knew you would cover it really well. I have a cauliflower ear. Besides the martial arts I do,, I wrestled a couple of years in college, BUT that's not where I got it. At 14, I had a very serious all over the skin staph infection and one of the palaces I got an infection was in the cartilage of my ear. The ENT doc drained it once, and then my dad was supposed to keep draining it, but he didn't :-( (Bas Rutan says to drain the fluid out and use compression. I agree with that)

  • @scrimau
    @scrimau 5 лет назад +6

    Good advice on the headgear, everything else was a bit bs doe, i was not afraid of cauliflower, didnt even knew what it was. But one day I had it, had terrible sleep, it isn't a purely cosmetic thing, you can feel a certain numbness on the parts and it's rly awkward when you lie on the affected side. Googled it, to the doc, had to stop training for a while, back, and it came back. It is rly a once you got it, you got it - thing, cartilage is a shitty tissue when it comes to healing. I think the most important thing is, that ppl should go to the doc or at least use steril needles to drain it, there are some very reckless ppl out there, and sure cauliflower ear sucks, but an infection on top of it sucks even more.

    This is something I’ve always wondered about, are fighters required to have short toenails that don’t protrude past the toes themselves? When watching MMA I cringe every time someone throws a kick and wonder if the recipient of the kick got scratched from toenails.

      @Arkeze 5 лет назад +15

      This is BAXTER Not the kick itself but the thought of someone’s toe nails colliding head on with someone’s shin or knee and possibly causing them to bend or snap off. Some people can’t stand nails on a chalkboard or biting down on silverware and it makes them shiver and cringe when they think about it, but for me when I was a kid I kicked my brother in the knee barefoot and I had long toenails and my big toenail and middle toenail snapped in half so ever since I cringe watching kicks. Someone just said the UFC makes fighters trim them, so now that I know I can watch without cringing so much.

    Hi Ramsey, I wanted to get your thoughts on something.
    I have heard you say before that Sanda is very often the base for Chinese MMA fighters but I have been wondering if any Chinese wrestlers go into MMA and do well. I know that China has it's own native form of wrestling, that being Shuai Jiao (and Mongolian wrestling if you count Inner Mongolia as China).
    Ultimately my question is threefold: how popular is wrestling in China (particularly the native styles), do wrestlers (even those who practice Olympic styles) go into MMA, and do they tend to dominate in their divisions like in American MMA orgs?
    Thanks man. I really enjoy your videos and I hope all is going well with you.

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  5 лет назад +1

      Wrestling is not popular at all in China. It’s extremely difficult to find anyone who wrestles outside of one of the major sports universities or Olympic training centers. The wrestling training most Sanda fighters have consists of takedowns only- no ground fighting. Chinese and Mongolian folk wrestling is also just the stand up game: takedowns only- no ground fighting. Shuai Jiao just means “wrestling” in Mandarin. It doesn’t refer specifically to any particular style of Chinese folk wrestling. However, the style most foreigners associate with the word Shuai Jiao (where the wrestlers wear the white uniforms with short sleeves and belts) is extremely uncommon. The only people I’ve met so far in China who practice that are foreigners. With 1.3 billion Chinese out there, I’m sure there are locals who do it too, but per capita, they are few and far between.

    What happens is blood vessels break and blood starts to pool causing the swelling. It's called a hematoma. I've got a hematoma in my left calf, but is just millimeters away from a major blood vessel, which would have required surgery.

Hats, rash guards, shirts, sweat pants and hoodies. Some little design, school logo, or signature. . I know you won't make millions but its supplemental income to help support the channel.

    Caulifower ear isn't cause from "abrasive" fabrics or anything.
    Its from trauma/pressure to the ears.
    Essentially blood builds up between the skin of the ear and the cartilage.
    But rough fabrics rubbing the skin of the ear won't cause it.

I read something, on one of these jailbait sites, that the only guys the ex-con presenter fears are those with cauliflower ears - a new market for the plastic surgeons maybe. Personallly, I think everyone (male) should have their nose broken at least once. I had mine re-set. Certainly makes you wary of getting involved in unnecessary altercations.

    The desire for cauliflower ear described by Ramsey is definitely not unique. I know quite a few guys who “strive” to attain it, and those who do have it flaunt it with pride... like a battle scar. Although the desire to become grossly disfigured may be a difficult concept for most people to grasp, the intimidation factor can not be denied. For example, if there was even the slightest chance of a physical altercation, who would you rather confront.... if you had to. A bigger guy who looks like your accountant; or a smaller guy with cauliflower ears, a crooked nose, and no front teeth?

    • @rtrt0789

      I'd pick the smaller guy, cause he looks like he doesn't know how to guard.
      Facial deformations don't necessarily mean, that somebody's a good fighter. He could just be a loudmouth, who's got his ass handed to him one too many times.
      I'd rather check the knuckles. They tell you a lot more.

    for those who want cauliflower ear, don't. not that it's ugly, I don't mind the shape, but the shape of our ear is designed/optimized for hearing perception, it help us locate the source of the sound we hear, having cauliflower ear will probably reduce your ability to perceive sounds direction.

      Dj XLT how long that’s good, how long have you been doing BJJ for? Yeah I saw this dude last night that showed his ears were slowly turning into cauliflower, nothing crazy but they were slowly turning. Seems like overtime it can happen without swelling up a onetime

      Oh, yes, that definitely happens for the "rollers", as we Thai Jiu Jitsu call them; Stocky guys like Matt Serra can train in grappling all day, but it does swell the ears; the clots that form cauliflower ear start when you train in intense grappling, for long periods of time, consistently; 5-6 days in the dojo for 6-8 hours, and you'll be icing your head! 😅
