1:43 i just love the fact that as you get closer to Yogg Saron a haunting and depraved version of the song of the titans starts playing, it’s like he enjoys mocking the noble tones of the creatures he controls and slapping you in the face with it
Being a kid when this raid released it didn’t feel real. I would see people run around with the tier set on and I would just be in awe… I only ever managed to find 1 raid that ventured further than just the 4 boss outside (I only ever pugged back then). Entering the antechamber for the first time I remember specifically screaming “DAAAAADDD LOOK I MADE IT INSIDE” and he watched me while the raid I was with cleared the way to the council of iron. Then we made it to kologarn and never beat him but I angled the camera so I could look behind him. I would have literal dreams of beating kologarn and exploring the whole area behind him… only other raid that even captured this feeling for me was naxxramas and black temple.
21:20 - Definitely captures that feeling of just awe and wonder and the vast, ancient mysteries of the Titans that Ulduar presents to us. A perfect example of storytelling with music.
Wrath was the beginning of raiding for me. I did Naxx and then took a break, and ended up raiding through ICC with essentially the same group every night, right until the end. ICC was the most fun I ever had raiding, but Ulduar was my favourite place to go. The environments, the hum of the halls, the song of the Titans growing ever more haunting and the groaning of Lovecraftian horrors locked away. Just listening to this puts me back there. Thanks for making these videos, they're windows to yesterday. Right arm! Now left arm!
Ah Ulduar, so many fond memories of this epic raid. I've been playing wow since 2005, this raid is by far one of my most fav. Algalon was such a brutal fight back then when it was new. It took us a while before we got him down.
@@Everness1 Apologies if you've answered this many times before, but how do you make these videos? Are the scenes reconstructed in a model viewer or are these from in-game raids?
I love the art in this raid. The Decent into Madness even has its own ominous looking symbol labeling the room. The art even gets creepy inside, I hope there's more stuff like this in the future instead of bleak walls.
silver2zilver Agree. Sublime, epic, heroic piece of artistry. A testament to things glorious. Despite appearing in a childish video game, deserves a place among great work.
Realm First!: Deaths Demise here. I'm proud of that realm first because this was an amazing raid that defined WoW. And it was made by the people who designed the raids in Vanilla WoW. This was their legacy before they left Blizzard.
Shoutout to a fellow Death's Demise. Yogg 0 still stands as one of my favorite fights of all time. Combat Rogue was insane then, and I loved every second of it
I actually liked this raid dungeon more so than The Icecrown Citadel. No offense to the Lich King, but I found fighting Yogg-Saron to be more disturbing and more creative than the Lich King.
Joeykm1972 Me too. It was tougher, more diverse, took more time, it was more of a harsh epic legendary journey rather than just a raid. Not my favorite,.but definitely the best ever!
I remember when Blizzard cared about quality and didn't skip out on cool looks, music and making it special. So many bosses + a ton of hardmodes, sometimes more than one per boss. The mystery with Algalon.
This video captures the essence of Ulduar both visually and through sound. It's not just nostalgia I feel regarding this raid, but also a sense of euphoria. If ever I was in love with something intangible, it was the experiences and setting of this raid.
I love coming back to this. The brass section in the beginning just sounds so imposing and regal and then it starts to devolve as the haunting choir echoing from those majestic walls twists and loses that noble sound. I can never get it out of my head. I don't want to. One of the best raids of the game, such a grand experience. If I could experience that raid for the first time again, I would happily do so.
I don't know what it is about the part of 28:38, but it's definitely one of my favorite pieces of the entire WoW soundtrack... It just fits Ulduar so well. It's perfect for this massive titan facility, but at the same time sounds like there's something very wrong here. Which, y'know, there is.
General Vezax and Yogg-Saron and the rooms they stay in. The broken walls, the translucent chains, the ominous imagery in the coloured windows and the pools of Saronite. Excellent scenery for a battle with an Old God. The sanity mechanic, the hallucination rooms and the exposed brain. This was Blizzard raid design at its very best.
I wish I was good enough to have raided Ulduar properly. I only made it to a medium core raiding guilds "B" team, which never really made it inside. However I loved the music and took it all in. Best raid in WoW, even if I didn't progress far at all.
"Now why would you go and do something like that? Didn't you see the sign that said 'DO NOT PUSH THIS BUTTON!'? How will we finish testing with the self-destruct mechanism active?" -Mimiron
This.... makes for fabulous music to draw to! I'd been hunting down some WoW music to listen to in the background, and not only did I find these ambiance tracks, they're extended for quite a while! I'm really glad I found this place! Keep up the awesome work!
The best and longest raid encounter I ever experience was Alagon 10 man. Took us around 4 hours and got the dark matter trinket. So many moons and suns ago.
Determining the difficulty of the raid by things you'd do in the actual raid not by the flip of a switch. I want to shake that person's hand and have a beer with them at least.
Hard Modes were far better than Heroic Modes, hands down. Really bummed that it only lasted for this raid, but then again that's probably why Ulduar is my favorite raid of all time across all expansions, even better than SWP/Black Temple/ICC...
WotLK was the peak of WoW. We got to fight an Old-God and Algon in a raid which wasn't even the final boss of expansion. We got from fighting an old god mid patch to Garrosh Hellscream as a final boss of expansion and the wow popularity never really reached late WotLK early cataclysm level again. I am still playing it on and off in 2022 with new dragonflight but its definitely not the same experience it was 12 years ago.

Hi dude, May i ask how did you got these environmental shoots? I'm trying to understand but i'm not finding anything related. Have a nice day and thanks!
There was a program called Free Far Sight back in the days of Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor. It allowed you to set up waypoints, change field of view, etc. Better camera controls, in short. It is no longer supported though. I have a vague idea of how some of the alternatives work, like how Wowhead showcase their data mined stuff for example, but it’s way too... fiddly for this kind of work.
This raid was the definition of Epic
I agree completely.
_BOW DOWN BEFORE THE GOD OF DEATH!_

Indeed. There's loads of other good raids, but Ulduar was practically the embodiment of epicness.
