From basket case to show bike | Restoring a CR250 at age 15
A great story about the restoration of a 1993 Honda CR250R. Nick Maddox and his pop took this bike from a basket case to show quality as their winter project.

Bad assss
I loved this build.....these were the bikes I drooled over as a little kid
Awesome bike just 2 much $ to spend on a bike that old never mind the labor
Mad props for this young man and his father. Enjoy the time you have on earth with him and create long lasting memories👍🏻
Seriously life's to short. I used to beg my old man to come screw around im the garage. Never really happened tho. This kids father is awesome as well as the son.
@@Junior-fd8ux I lost mine in December. It sucks. You see the world differently when their gone. I didn't realize how powerful he was as a person because he was allways my Dad.
@250r trx Junkie so sorry for your loss brother. It sounds like you have a good out look on life though. I just take it one day at a time now. That's the way I get by most the time
@@Junior-fd8ux 👊🏻👍🏻
@@250rtrxjunkie just have to take it one day at a time an make him proud. He's still with you an watching you through the good and hard times. Much love my brother
Keep it up! Looking forward for more videos from you, don't stop! Would you like to be RUclips friends? :]
Awesome! Keep it up! Would you like to be RUclips friends? :]
I have to say i am 100% a dirtbike rider i really dont like quads but i respect them equally just because i dont like them doesnt mean they arent bad ass. But this cr is eye candy to me that father and son killed it big time. And i am subscribed to this channel regardless of what i like. Quads are dying out and i know what it feels like because i had to watch 3 main brands drop out of the 2 stroke class 😢. Not a good feeling. We cant let the quads die to many riders enjoy them and it gets so many families and friends out on a nice day ripping. So anyone against quads or against bikes push aside differences we are all the same and we all enjoy tearing it up on some machines. Michael Sabo Some day in the future ill submit my 1988 rm250 but its still a work in progress takes a bit longer to find parts for rather than a 90s and up bike. But the motor is my youtube icon so you can see its gnarly.
Well said bro! Glad to hear there are more people out there that appreciate all machines. Thank you for subscribing to my channel and I look forward to seeing your RM when the time comes
@@MichaelSabo thanks man hopefully in the next few months she will be set, she is pricey got about $2,500 into it now thankfully it was a free bike hahaha. And i think all machines are important man even the trikes which sadly went extinct but there is a company on youtube that makes trike kits for all dirtbikes which is wicked! But we can not let quads go extinct too many people enjoy them that would be a ton of heart break.
2 Strokes for Life
bansheemania amen.
Amen buddy you got it
Love the videos. Kid is honestly going places though. Wish I had the knowledge and patience for this type of stuff.
Thank you for watching bro!
Michael Sabo I’m always watching 🧐🧐
I’m 15 and in the process of restoring a 1983 xr500r, I also ride a ktm 520sx
Good shit Owen!
Kid you are taking on a mean project hope it all goes well cus let me tell ya.....those xr bikes are monsters and we need to keep them alive, you are doing a good service kid. Keep it up.
@@motododo4626 yes. My 2nd bike was a 1976xt 500. First year of them. Man it was like a TOWNCAR on the Trails lol.. Torque Monster Thumper
@@bansheemania1692 gotta love old school thumpers man. Beasts.
Awesome job, father N son duo, with a successful ending .. this is what missing from current generation.. doing things like this with my dad made me the successful father and man today... Again awesome pick
Kevin Purkey thank you . Priceless to be able to do with my son.
Where can you get a vapor blaster and how much do they cost?
Trenton Florence vapor hone technologies. I have a small one that was about $1000
Nick Maddox looks like I'm not getting one then lol
Thats a good deal for a vapor blaster how do you like the small one
Cristian Quintana I was able to do the whole motor when it was in pieces but anything bigger than a case you won’t be able to do.
I'm 34 and finally got my life together enough to get a really nice bike, it's a 2013 Husqvarna WR250 and it's awesome! I'm selling it though and this coming fall I'm going to get something even fresher, probably 2 stroke with electric start or a trials bike!
That is real father and son time. Much love to them
Beautiful build! Mad props! Work hard play hard!
your next build should be a 2 stroke 250 dirtbike!
Man i dont care the brand or the year every restored or brand new 250 smoker is stiffy worthy lmfao 😂 seriously though they are bad ass im a dirtbiker for like and those 250s man and the exposed pipes are just like candy.
Unreal build looks sick fair play to the young fella brilliant
that came out awesome,i hope mine comes out that good.
What a phenomenal job. The bike looks, sounds, and appears to run awesome. Legendary bike, hope he keeps it forever.
It's nice to see kids doing stuff like this instead of cramming their faces into cell phones. My younger brother still has his 93 CR 250, he'll never get rid of it. I currently have a 1981 YZ 465 that I bought off of him as a project that I'm going to fix up and get going. Though I'm not gonna go into detail like these people did. I'm also staying away from any NOS Yamaha parts for this bike since they're stupidly priced. I don't want to spend more than what I can potentially get for it in the future. That's if I ever decided to sell it, which I probably won't. But still. :)
I agree man; nice to see the younger generation getting their hands dirty. Can't tell you how many times I said "I'm not going to put more into it than I can sell it for 😂"
@@walkerjohnson9783 thank you man. I've never had seat time on the 525 IRS but I hear in the trail the suspension is amazing
@@MichaelSabo Baby steps, that's all I can say. Right now just getting it going is the priority for me. Though finding a stock bore piston was a tad difficult. Wiseco only seems to sell an 85.5 mil piston kit for it and its' stock bore is 85 mil from what I've read. No point in boring the cylinder if it doesn't need it. I found a brand on ebay that has an 85 mil piston kit for it and the piston is supposedly made in Germany. The seller has 100% positive feedback, so I'm gonna give it a shot. Luckily since I get it from my younger brother it's not a total basket case. The engine is half apart, but it's not a total box of parts. More of a roller than anything. :)
@@walkerjohnson9783 I'd like to get my hands on one of those 525 IRS Outlaws' someday. Polaris was smart and used a KTM engine in them.
@@walkerjohnson9783 I've watched a couple of Predators and Outlaws on the facebook market place in my area. But they ended up selling quick before I had the money to get one as they were cheap project bikes. A little rough but they were all there. Sadly when they show up is when I have more important things I need to pay for. :P
All I can say is damn son!! What a nice bike. I’m surprised though that he picked Stanton over Showtime.
Getting my 1991 CR250 in decent shape. Been sitting in a garage for 8 years or so. Just has a clutch issue
Blessed project I am rebuilding a kdx250 at the minute it's looking good powder coated frame ect ect
CR250 are the baddest bikes ever built
Wow that is crazy!! I would put that bike in my living room lmao
Good on young nick. Great build. Well done and props on the wheelies..
He killed it. Love steel frame 250s
Good resto, good review!
They need to bring back atv i want a trx450r
Love it I've had a 95 96 97 and 01 cr 250 the 93 to 96 were my favorite. Jeremy McGrath rode a 93 frame every year he rode for honda. The 93 had a steeper head angle and rake. They were very susceptible to head shake but they turned super tight. The frames were also softer in 93 and stretched bad. Parts for these bikes are way harder to come by than a lot of bikes including 250r's. But this is the most popular and re built bike today. My 95 looked identical to that one but I put newer forks and a shock with high speed adjustment on it. I regret selling it. But at the time I was out of moto for a bit and just bought it to cruise around the farm and build. Now that I'm back into moto I really wish I had it to race vintage on. I would do anything to have that back and my 01 cr500 that was literally brand new with maybe 10 hours all original warning labels and all with a built motor lol.
Interesting information man; that CR500 would be worth a good bit I bet; you should buy/build another one
@@MichaelSabo I sold it for 3700 In 2012 to a guy that said he was going to hang it in his house. A little while later I seen it on craigslist with a supermoto conversion. Today people would easily pay 6k for it. I've only see one as clean sell and it sold for 12k! Yea I've thought about it but it wouldn't be the same as a low hours survivor plus by the prices of them I would have probably $7000 into one. By the time I buy a decent one for $4-4500 and go thru everything. In all honesty my new yam 450 is just as fast as a 500 and on a track it's a lot faster. But nothing like a 500cc 2 stroke
Love the old motocross bikes
This young man will never forget that project, Kudos to Dad for taking the time out for his son!
Oh, I remember this one; great family
Doing this now all alone little help with money from my mom no dad but I’ve stripper this 1999 yz 250 painting the frame now hope to be done in 3-4 months
What other parts do you need to complete the 250r ?
The TRX? Believe it or not; I'm still waiting on the Nerf bars to send everything out for powder coating; not sure why they're taking so long.
Hey Michael! Wanted to reach out again and see if we could get a possible shout-out? Love the vids and enjoy what u do. Hope all is well.
I was born in 93 that's one of my dream bikes I had a 94 one time was a tank
If you're seeing this u did a really good job nick
For some reason or it's a Wife's tale. 99 Honda's are The Best year.
Very nice build and I absolutely love the late 90's early 2000's CR250's & CR125's but man what a clean looking bike and beautiful restoration💙💯🔥🔥
Howdy
I did the same thing in high school with my 2003 rm 125. Ex race bike was blown up for 5 years. Bought it in boxes and rebuilt it completely
I purchased a 1990 CR250r last year for $700. Previous owner had it for 18 years, when it stopped running he parked it in a barn and there it sat for many years. I plan to do a full restoration on it and keep the bike for as long as I can. All things considered, the bike is in very good condition and has some vintage touches I plan to keep on it.
I have a basket case too.It is a 1984 Honda cr250 which I only bought for $250.It only needs a bottom end an top end and plenty of TLC.I am gonna sand blast every single part like he did and I can share the pic of the build when I am done if you'd like.
That’s bad ass! Keep the vids coming!
Thank you for watching Chris!
I am a sucker for the cr250r
I still have my 1993 cr250 stored. Frame and boxes full of parts..
Hey question I found a Banshee on Craigslist for $500 should I go for it? I'm just kinda suspicious
Awesome job!
Does that bike Know He's On It... My friend ride's The Last Year 250. And im 230 and It can Care Less That Im On It. Likewise about Not Being The Best on A Bike.
hahaha so true man; my old CR250 used to try to throw me off pretty regularly lol
I have a 1991 trx250x me and my buddy are gonna completely redo
good evening my friend what brand is plastic?
Amazing
