Thanks for the review! I've never been much of an avid Honda enthusiast but this subcompact SUV is stunning. With the CR-V getting bigger and bigger, the HR-V will fill the void of those wishing for a GREAT smaller SUV. I definitely see a lot more of these traveling the roads in the future. I'd buy the HR-V today if the AWD version came with a 5-speed. Oh well. My hand-me-down 90s CR-V is good for another 100K-200K miles.
My husband bought me a black one back in May 2016 for my birthday. We have no regrets buying this car. I love it so much despite the negative reviews. I don't think there's a perfect car, tbh. ;) It's an eco friendly car and saves me a lot on gas. I refuse to buy gas guzzlers.
I watch all your videos here in RUclips you just make it really fun to watch. it's like a real life experience not like the others that looks like they're reading from a paper. Good job sir!
Always love your reviews Steve. You are informative, funny and entertaining at the same time. I bought a new CRV back in 2013. Wonder why Honda put 'softer touch' materials in the cheaper HRV. My CRV interior scratches so easy from vacuuming, a ring on your finger, watch etc...just so easy to scratch and scuff marks. It's one thing about the CRV I find very disappointing. My 2010 Civic I traded in was the same thing. I haven't tested a HRV yet, but I have to take your word that it rides nice. My CRV rides rough over 'rougher' parts of the road...too jumpy, snappy or whatever the word to describe it. I hear the 2015 is a bit better, hear that Honda tweaked the suspension. Will have to check out a HRV soon.
I LOVED this review. I also love this car. It'll be hard to choose between this and the CX-3. I might pick this one only because the reviews I've seen are always saying how smooth the ride is which is something that Mazda is lacking, however they are getting a bit better at that.
I found the video entertaining. Even my wife and kids watched it. And by the way, I bought a HRV yesterday and am excited about picking it up in a few days.
I've had two 4x4 older model Hondas that traveled in to some very rough and scorched county in central Australia without having any mechanical or electrical problems. I wonder why they don't make larger 4x4's like Toyota and Nissan because Honda's reliability and mechanical quality is excellent.
We bought ours as soon as the dealership rolled their first shipment off the truck. The 141 HP and 127 Lb Ft of Torque is adequate to the task, The engine is peppy but it won't remind you of a Boss 5.0 or a Dodge Hemi. I'm 6'1" and I need lumbar support. The lack of such support gave me one heck of a backache when I drove it long distance on the Interstate. So now I keep a pillow in the HRV to use when I drive. We've been quite annoyed by the fragility of the windshield. It has taken three hits from road debris causing a major crack to run across the top of the windshield. I've never experienced such an event in my 30+ years of driving a plethora of different cars. It is frustrating to have to pay 500.00 just two months after paying out 25,000 to drive a HRV off of the lot. It rides fairly well on highways and it stays pretty quiet in the cabin. We replaced a 2002 CRV which was much rougher and louder than this refined HRV. The technology change is also a huge leap forward. It took us a few weeks to get the infotainment system working the way we wanted it to. The sound system is good with the 6 speakers but there's no graphic equalizer to adjust the sound. You can arrange the interior to pack a lot of different stuff. We raised the back seats using "Magic" to place two trees in the floor we bought at a plant nursery. Very functional! Looking forward to owning this HRV for at least a decade and probably longer.
I enjoyed the review and the style Steve did it in. The wife's 2006 Scion xA is going to be replaced this year. This new HRV is on our list of consideration. Looks like Honda is onto something here. I got a lot out of this review. Thanks!
Cool review by a dude that I can't help but love. I've been holding out since this car launched last year, reason being, lack of power (1.8), and up to date options! In the rest of the world this vehicle is known as the Vezel. Panaramic sunroof, jewel led headlights with led drl & led tailights, rear arm rest, hard cover luggage cover, more stylish wheel options machined face with black inlay, and smaller engines that get way better fuel economy, the 1.5 earth dreams engine that gets 54mpg, and the 1.6 diesel engine that gets 75mpg. So, I'm confused as to why if your goal is to give the U.S. a note powerful engine, then give us a MORE powerful engine (2.0, the r20 engine), not the underpowered aging 1.8, so we get this underpowered engine and it still only nets 35mpg hwy, good, but in comparison to the rest of the world, not up to Hondas potential. Having said all of that, any news on the 2017 HR-V? I'm holding out and I'm getting tired of waiting!..... Rav4 and Nissan Rogues' options are calling my name (LED options, and Panaramic sunroof for an extra $1100).
Great video as always! I do miss the old days however... They were of higher quality (usually in 4K), and you reviewed more interesting vehicles! Its what made me subscribe and fell like this was the best auto-reviewing RUclips channels. Back when you guys reviewed the Jaguar F-type (great video), or the BMW M5 vs Audi S6 showdown, you had better more high-quality interesting videos that made "Rosenthal Automotive" a great channel. Thank you!
chuckey3007 Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. We try to do high end vehicles as well as "everyday drivers". We're aiming for the Porsche Macan next if time, weather and availability permit. I'll do my best to keep improving our shoots though. Thanks..:) Steve
chuckey3007 I agree. It appears they lost a key member (besides Steve of Course) of their staff who was really creative. The Audi R-8 and the Land Rover are key examples. Still Steve could make a guy with a cell phone camera look good. Would love to see the old team back together. Still love the reviews just loved them more with the old crew. Stev you're AWESOME!!
You are a great reviewer sir! My favorites on RUclips are you , Everyman driver , test driven now , some German gentleman, and I believe the other guy is Tom Volk
Chris, good luck in your choice. I briefly thought about the Trax.(not bad price wise). Looks are our own opinions, and I love hrv's looks. I sat in one and was impressed. good luck !
Great review! Just bought one yesterday but I have to wait for them to build it because I chose mulberry metallic which is hard to find. But it was cool to see all the details again and hear how much he enjoyed the car.
heres a pro tip when you are putting the VOL up...and that gauge pops up. you can move your finger to the top of the gauge and slide it up and down and the volume changes INSTANTLY!!!

+Brendyn J. Wallace Thanks for your kind thoughts! I'll have to ask my wife and kids about this whole "switching families" thing... But who knows?!?! They just might be more than happy to go for it..:) Steve
Great review! One fine point, about the cost: I thiink you would find that the $19k version of the LX is the 2WD. The AWD version of the LX is closer to 23, and by the way is harder to find -- so if you care more about the AWD and price, than about trim-level and leather, be prepared to wait and to pay a bit more.

For the average and volume buyers, Honda has the spectrum covered. The only issues I have with them is Acura and their loss of identity. They need a new team.

Wow great job. We test drove the Mazda CX-3 and Nissan Juke, too small in my opinion. HRV drove nice, but was hoping for at least 170 hp like the Nissan Rogue. Might pull the trigger this Labor Day, wife likes the car. And in her words "I'm not a speed demon anyway"
The AWD helps you drive in a variety of road conditions, as well as in the snow. But it really depends on how deep and icy the snow is. Plus, it's a relatively light weight vehicle so it won't have the power of a heavy 4WD truck...but it will certainly be an improvement over simply having FWD only..:) Steve
You list the manual seat adjustment as a downside, when i am so happy to learn that it isnt electronic! Currently car shopping for my next car(looking to buy a new one in the next year) and the 2016 hrv is number one on the list. My 2002 monte carlo has electronic seat adjustment, and it just gave us a hell of a time, stuck all the way back! Was such a bitch to fix too! So awesome these are the lever pull and release kind of seats, like in the civics! Huge plus as far as im concerned 😂
Okay...Okay...non-powered seats will probably never get stuck... But a 2002 Monte Carlo electric seat isn't necessarily the same technology as what's used today. Just a thought. Plus, once you set the electric seat you probably won't be adjusting it all that much anyway so either one will do. Good luck on your car hunt and thanks for watching our video..:) Steve
@@rosenthalstevek8869 we adjust it basically every time it is driven, im 5 9, my husband is 6 1 with long legs. he pushes it nearly all the way back, and i have to push it much farther forward than he can use. i relaize technology advances, but a manual is still far less likely to break. and, consider that as technology advances, it is harder for your average do-it-yourself mechanic to be able to fix it. im just saying. not everyone will see the manual seat adjustment as a bad thing, cuz i certainly dont!
I own a 2008 honda civic hybrid. I'm looking forward to upgrade to the HRV. the civic is just too small and short and the trunk doesn't have much room due to the integrated battery. Haha Steve you're just too entertaining X) I enjoy watching you lol I'm on my second review!! ... I like how you were pretending to not be able to open the hood. ^.^
Steve Kerndt Aw, you replied ! Yes Lol I was looking for your review of a Acura MDX 2015 .. I don't know if you have that yet or not? Lol, you have quite the "following" I was reading the comments people said about you being funny. You have RUclips groupies! X)
This was actually entertaining to watch because the guy doesn't sound like a drone reading off a brochure.
Yes true 😎😏👍
Another great Honda review. So much fun to watch with plenty of info.
HondaPro Jason Thanks so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it..:) Steve
+HondaPro Jason I second that. Covered it all in this review pretty much.
I would never consider owning this vehicle..but I watched the whole thing just cause I love this guy

Me too! What color did you get?
Keya Clayton Ocean Blue! What about you? C:
+Mia Giordano I just got mine last night. The color is mulberry which looks deep gray to me! I love it!
Keya Clayton I saw that color in the dealership it was gorgeous~

I own both Honda and Toyota. Personally, I believe Honda are more reliable than Toyota. However, both are the best on earth.
