I'm not in the "ding" biz, but I do all of my own repairs and a number for friends. I've learned a ton on this channel, I'm in.

Good on ya! Great idea, good decision and smart to keep the business agile. From previous discussion I think your pricing was good for repairs. As for RUclips, and socials in business terms, that's your time and effort that needs to be part of formulas.

Cheers! Excited to see where it all leads too! Hopefully a net positive for all involved, we can only try!

A video regarding fin repair would be interesting. Lots of rocks here and my fins get chewed up . I generally just ignore the fin damage or maybe sand it a little.cheers 👍

Hey hey, yea can whip one of them up for sure! Reasonably common and those fins can slice the hell out of your toes once they're all chipped up!

New to surfboards and to surfing. Looking to repair some boards. Im looking for a simple video or explaination stating what materials to use, and step by step fixing a ding, fixing a cut, a delamination, repair a broken chunk off the tail or tip, and glassing in a fin and finbox.
    These types would be helpful.
Like you said, i joined multiple sights and either you get too many variations, attitude, or no help.
    Thanks and love the videos👍🏻

You're an absolute legend. Any advice on where to source foam for blanks in NZ? I'm a long time whitewater paddler who's done a bit of SUP and kite over the years. Now I live near the beach and have a young boy so whitewater is a bit much logistics and commitment for me most weekends. Still learning to surf, but have a decent amount of composite experience so I was looking at building a couple of paddleboards to take the wee man out as he grows.

Hey hey! Depending where you are in NZ there's a few different blank suppliers. I dunno how many of them do SUP sized blanks though. You might be better off going to a carter's, ITM or bunnings and buying a big slab of EPS foam. You'll get 2 to 4 blanks out of a slab. You'll have to make your own stringer, cut the slab, glue it either side of the stringer before you start shaping. Check out Andrew W on RUclips, he does the process in some of his earlier videos

@@smallkinedings cheers mate, I had a feeling that would be the case, considering the extra volume in the paddleboard. I think I've got the bulk of the process sorted. The blendingcurves website was mint to have a look at templates as starting points, modified then transferred onto a roll of newsprint.

Your dream for the channel sounds great, but will definitely impact your business. Don't forget to take in consideration scalability, either the youtube side or your shop. Your free repair concept sounds great, but could put you in a awkward position if you are required to up or downscale your business as well.
Two other things to keep in mind, what is the current 'cealing' of the board building/ repair shop content. I've strolled through the youtubes for quite some time and weirdly enough bendheim board is as far as I know the biggest player (IMO, I never found this content high quality, as in craftsmanship, but his entertainment value is high. You can also buy subs, but we are getting speculative now). Learn from him and his content.
Second, having watched your videos, your passionate about your trade. Don't turn yourself in a youtuber, unless you want to. Because that means less of what your doing now, and more of filming, editing or costs of other people doing that for you.
Wish you all the best, love the video's.

Definitely valid points and very appreciated! At the moment I'm trying to scale down 😂 the biggest threat my business faces is rent, it's by far my largest expense and the one I need to work on decreasing. I do have a plan in the works currently which will help with that considerably but I'm certainly focused now on making the best situation with what I have without any further expansion.
As far as being a youtuber, last thing I want is to be am "influencer" but I feel there's a good opportunity for both subscribers, my business and my customers so interested to see if it can get there!

Can't say I speak from experience, but I don't think the whole immediate expansion and push for memberships and stuff is a good idea. At least not yet. I'd say keep working on content over anything else. I feel like pushing too hard on monetization will kill off support. You're one of the best dingmen on RUclips, so that's why I watch your videos. Certainly hope it does work though, you've helped me personally with some advice on a few dings, so you deserve the extra $$ that comes with a big channel.

Appreciate the feedback! Just prep at this stage. Trying to foresee the future and certainly my newest video showed me that the amount of people commenting and reaching out could very easily become a lot to handle! Priority number 1 is just getting videos up though
