Meath) and living in Manchester 23 years, working in supermarkets for 30 years in both the U.K. and Ireland, I can easily relate to Niall’s points on this - when I first moved to the U.K., I had a huge culture shock for the first 6 months getting used to U.K. life and this was one of those things, yet now when I come home to Ireland on visits, my family and friends in Ireland think that I’ve adopted English ways without even realising it
