Honestly? Just make sure your laptop's audio and wi-fi system are compatible, if you can help it, and you should be totally fine. Hardware support is great these days.
You could check arch wiki for hardware support. wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop But unfortunately, even latest ThinkPad X1C doesn't support Linux that well for things like WAN (LTE, not WLAN) and fingerprinter. And there are a lot of pitfalls regarding thunderbolt3, like eGPU hot unplug will just crash kernel for amdgpu, and X not really support hot gpu unplug.
There aren't that many Linux laptops out there. There are the known ones System76 Purism and Dell. Dell being the only mainstream notebook producer. There is a smaller company called Tuxedo, but it's questionable how much Linux integration work they really do. Than there are Endless OS sellers like Acer, Asus, Lenovo. I personally wouldn't recommend Endless OS, because there Desktop isn't really made for productive workloads. But it's atleast an indicator that Linux will work. Then there are ChromeOS devices, which are now able to run Linux software on top of ChromeOS, if you just want to run Linux software and not a Linux desktop environment. But Chromebooks are very often pretty compatible under Linux and can be installed afterwards or via a chroot environment. Some people like to use Macbooks, I'm not really sure how good the compatibility is nowadays, but it was at least pretty good a few years back. You could buy an Samsung tablet and use Linux on Dex, you could even use a Samsung smartphone for that, is a weird way of using Linux, but if you really want to. What I wouldn't recommend is just buying a Windows Notebook and run Linux on that, not because it's not possible, but because there are options out their which are more tailored to Linux and will be less of a headache in the long run. But if you really want to buy a Windows notebook for Linux, I would recommend something ordinary and try to avoid quirks like numpad in the touchpad and the like, these features most likely won't work.
I'd be interested to hear what he has to say. I have had issues with switchable graphics, cpu/gpu temps and fan speed, screen color calibration, screen led backlight PWM and others. It seems easier to use a desktop with Linux in my opinion, as it never seems to run quite right on a laptop.
No, which one it shows up on depends on which USB port you usr. But with the seamless mouse thing, it's super easy to copy files over from one to the other.
@@TMercury480 It's still about that. Even if it is with Linux, Windows or Mac simply wouldn't do it. Windows makes plenty of money as being the biggest OS in the world, Mac wants to keep everything in the Apple Ecosystem
I know you all know this but I use parallels on my Mac to run windows side by side and in fact currently I am running dual screen Mac and a single screen Windows off of my Mac Mini and it works great but I realize that this was not the point of this video!!! Enjoyed the video! Keep the great information coming!!!
These multi-computer single-CPU machines are interesting, but I want something that'll automatically dynamically reassign resources, so if you're using something heavy on the windows side it'll have access to more memory/cores, while the mac is sitting mostly idle
You could easily assign both machines all cores (or maybe 10 each) and while there will be more resource contention if they’re both running hard if one is idle, off or sleeping you’ll have what you’re looking for.

You could check arch wiki for hardware support. wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop
But unfortunately, even latest ThinkPad X1C doesn't support Linux that well for things like WAN (LTE, not WLAN) and fingerprinter.
And there are a lot of pitfalls regarding thunderbolt3, like eGPU hot unplug will just crash kernel for amdgpu, and X not really support hot gpu unplug.
pop os/ system 76 Manjaro ect LTT is not quite the channel for this check out Brian lunduke and garder the linux gamer ect instead. @Gra C
I wonder how Windows feels about being on the same machine as Mac.........Windows Task Manager (not responding)
Nevermind..
This is how Windows and Mac get along in this PC. Lmao!

@Jaime lololol
Linux is dong the party hosting if you will.
man that not responding shit on windows sucks ass
Anthony has been your best hire since like... luke. no stage presence, but damn these crazy videos are fantastic.
A tutorial on how to get this working would be appreciated.
Nope, I still find it impossible to dislike Anthony. He's just too great of a guy.
0:00 For some reason, I thought you were going to say
"Mac or PC, whichever will it be"
with a logitech mouse, you can set up flow, which moves the mouse from one computer to another and can even share files with drag and drop.
AMD Radeon and NVIDIA RTX cards in a single PC?
*WTF IS THIS TYPE OF SORCERY!*
They are connected with infinity glove.
It's the sorcery required for Unraid to be able to pass through an nvidia gpu. Which sucks to do btw
Welcome to the 21st century... it's non-binary.
They've done it before. It's not that hard to do.
@@RedStefan reality can be whatever we want
What happens when you plug in a flash drive? Does it show up on both?
No, which one it shows up on depends on which USB port you usr. But with the seamless mouse thing, it's super easy to copy files over from one to the other.
You could actually set it up so that when a drive is plugged in, it automatically mounts as a "network drive" for both VMs.
Absolutely love this as a content creator using Final Cut, to make gaming cinematics.
When I first saw Anthony I was like look at that big head full of knowledge. I'm jealous. That's is gold. Nuff respect to him.
Wait, is this all running on Linux? Best OS ever
Why isn't this already a thing. It just needs some polishing. Very useful. I would buy
Because...why would two of the top OS rivals in the world do this
@@ghoulishjoe It can be Linux instead of one of those. Its not about that.
@@TMercury480 It's still about that. Even if it is with Linux, Windows or Mac simply wouldn't do it. Windows makes plenty of money as being the biggest OS in the world, Mac wants to keep everything in the Apple Ecosystem
@@ghoulishjoe I just think this is more about the implementation of the manufacturer than anything else
I honestly love how supportive everyone is of Anthony. It's so wholsome
I know you all know this but I use parallels on my Mac to run windows side by side and in fact currently I am running dual screen Mac and a single screen Windows off of my Mac Mini and it works great but I realize that this was not the point of this video!!! Enjoyed the video! Keep the great information coming!!!
Linus: a machine that we call kthe Indecisionator (?)
Linus Tech Evil Incorporated has been born
You need to sing the name jn the same jingle as "Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated"
1:05 (Hold on guys, I have to plug in my chair)
Lol fr
its really easy to make your own....just buy rgb strips and tape and connect them to a plug
Please do a modern comparison of VMWare vs KVM performance losses
That would be actual tech research and review. They don't do that on this channel, unless it's clickbait-ble. Sorry
KVM is faster
Sounds like something Level1Techs would do, not Linus
I don't think that Linus has ever done content about VMware...
I'd rather see VirtualBox than VMWare. So do all three. :-)
Anthony is just a modern day wizard. Epic guy
please post a write up of how to do this or make a video tutorial would be great thanks
Anthony: Say your a youtube creator or twitch streamer.....
Me: At my age twitch isn't the streaming service I'm worried about.....
hehe
Hahahahahahaha wow so funny

These multi-computer single-CPU machines are interesting, but I want something that'll automatically dynamically reassign resources, so if you're using something heavy on the windows side it'll have access to more memory/cores, while the mac is sitting mostly idle
@LosFarmosCTL nop , VMware Vsphere DRS kind of doing that.
You could easily assign both machines all cores (or maybe 10 each) and while there will be more resource contention if they’re both running hard if one is idle, off or sleeping you’ll have what you’re looking for.
The drag and drop feature is sick
