It was the producer's idea that Freddie Hubbard play all of the nine standards on this CD with a mute in his trumpet. Hubbard was not happy with the restriction, but does his best on the quartet/quintet session with pianist Benny Green, bassist Rufus Reid, drummer Carl Allen and, on three numbers, altoist Kenny Garrett. While it is interesting to hear Freddie Hubbard tackle such material as "Topsy," "As Time Goes By," "Cherokee" and "Love Me or Leave Me," the music is often more mellow than one might hope, even when uptempo. It's a pleasing but not essential release from the Japanese label Alfa/Compose.~ Scott Yanow Want to be featured on this channel? Submit your content to: berniesbootlegs@gmail.com

I believe Freddie Hubbard was from Indianapolis Indiana.
When movie producers use your stuff in their movies and TV shows, you know you have something special.
The GODFATHER INTRO was done by FREDDIE HUBBARD. WOW, WHAT A LEGEND.

To me Hubbard is the most accomplished trumpetist, he can express so much feelings in his playing.

The muted trumpet of Freddie sounds at times somewhat demure, imo. Purely only recorded for the jazz-loving Japanese market which happend quite often. And in those days not readily available outside Japan, at the time. Rather commercial album even i would imagine, for Freddie’s liking. But still nice American-songbook tunes. Enjoy & Cheers!

It's too bad Freddie "lost his lip" -- as we trumpeters say -- and never again played to his previous standard in the years before he died.

Do called modern contemporary jazz should revisit the worth of accurately applying the function of well thought out (sound) music,so as to meaningfully apply value in such a way, that harmoniously centered vibrations may offer the world " healing".
