Where has Dave been?
Hey! Been building my online landscape photography school (posting 4-6 new videos there each month) , backpacking & taking photos. Here are some links to the new stuff I've been working on!

May start youtube back up here in a few months once winter rolls around & some time frees up:)
Thanks for asking by the way!
Dave
@@DaveMorrow Wow, at last!! nice to know that you are here!! please, kindly add some new videos!
Thank you much again for your hard efforts, the fact that you dislike drones makes me smile, terribly invasive and intrusive.Thank you for NOT sharing locations as I feel the joy of the experience is your own personal discovery a gift in a sense to yourself and the appreciation of the wild and all of its living creatures, stay blessed can’t wait to see more!
Hi Isabella,
You're welcome. Thanks for watching until the end and taking the time to challenge your own ideas & mind. It's important these days:)
Talk soon,
Dave
Dave I’m sure you realize, but you could do lectures. I could listen to you talk for hours. 👍🏼
Thanks so much. That's really nice to hear. Maybe I'll do more talks like this in the future. Take care,
Dave
I am a 18 year old student. All of your Videos are motivative and very knowledgeable for everyone not just for photographers. Thanks for free tutorials.Love from Sri Lanka 😃😃
Great to hear!
Great video. Thank you. Your suggestion of not sharing locations of sites is absolutely correct. More people need to learn and practice " Nothing left behind". Have a great summer trip. Give my best to Iron. His insights are appreciated.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching. Iron's the man. Will do. Take care buddy.
This is my favorite video so far! You do an astounding job of clarifying so many questions and you inspire me to live my life as fully as possible! Such gratitude for you and all your knowledge.
Thanks! I try my best. Glad it shows.
Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge with us. I'm nearly twice your age and plan on some short, one and two night backpack trips over the next few months and I feel your thought process and tips will help an old guy out.
You're welcome, Don. I'll have a backpacking guide & course out this year:) How did your trip go?
Great advice about preparation, training and knowledge to avoid injury in the wilderness. Everyone should write this on the wall, "It's only dangerous if you don't know what you're doing."
LOVE your message on keeping the nature intact. With the onslaught from visitors/photographers' mayhem, not sharing the location is the only way to give nature an opportunity to recover to its original state.
a solid bedrock of learning and critical thinking for those achieving what you have achieved is outstanding advice. All young people could take away a lot from this advice. Great video, thank you Dave.
Thanks Greg!
Thanks for all your great answers Dave. I agree with you on drones and locations. I get people asking me where I shoot different things and I'll give a general location, but no specifics anymore. They'll get so much more out of it if they find it on their own. And if they don't, they aren't looking hard enough. =) Have a great trip to Utah!!
Great to hear it!
Thanks Dave!! Excellent as always. Spot on about the location sharing. All the right reasons for that. Travel safe and look forward to next season.
Thanks BT! Glad to hear that you feel the same way:)
Thanks for answering my question! I kinda figured that's what you were going to say but I was secretly hoping you might have at least one "crazy story" ;-)
haha! You're most welcome. It's a really good question. Read this book for a good one! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_Thin_Air
superb dave ... God bless 👍
Thanks Mikey, glad you enjoyed it!
Love your philosophy re: leaving only footprints. So many so-called nature-lovers treat wildlife with such disrespect. We were in Algonquin last fall, enjoying a quiet, pristine morning watching a loon periodically popping up in front of us on a misty lake. Along comes some guy who begins flying his buzzing drone back and forth just a foot above the lake. Our peace was gone, but more importantly, the loon swiftly disappeared. The sharing of locations online has completely transformed (for the worse), in a very short time span, so many awesome places we used to frequent. Sharing locations online also attracts those photographers who don't think twice about harassing wildlife in order to get photographs. Owl baiters are the worst. I wish more people thought like you. Wishing you a wonderful trip. Looking forward to seeing some of your shots when you return to RUclips Land.
Thanks. I completely agree. It's really sad to see what's happened so quickly. Thankfully many places are guarded by distance and difficult terrain, but not everyone can access these area, so that's a downside. I'll do an image review! Take care & thanks for the comment.
Dave
Thanks so much for these videos. I especially appreciate the knowledge I am gaining hearing about the importance of problem solving and how social media isn't what they've told us it is.. I have experienced this myself and am thankful someone like you is publicly being honest about it and it's negative effects, not to mention lack of importance for photographers. Thanks!
You're welcome, Misty. Thanks for letting me know:)
Hi Dave, its been 10 months already. Hope you had great adventures and photo opportunities. I and I am sure many others look forward to your images and experience from these past months in your new videos soon. Cheers.
Love your channel Dave! Just discovered it and can’t stop watching. Currently an artist trapped in a financial analyst’s body (at Boeing in So Cal! :D) and your content really resonates. I’ll be checking out the premium courses on your website, soon. Thank you!

Total respect for all you've done and are doing - the right way. Not as many people still have the total integrity you have. We are blessed by your giving spirit and teaching.
Thanks so much Betty. Really glad you found it useful:)
That's some good advise Dave. Thanks for keeping it real! I'm always looking for positive and "dialed in" folks. I would watch your channel even if I wasn't into hiking or photography. In fact, my good friend (has 3000 "friends" on fb) told me she was kinda down over the nonsense on the "nternet. She asked me to send her some positivity and I thought of you (she day hikes every day, snaps with a cell phone). She said you were a breath of fresh air and a super nice guy. Looking forward to more vids.
Thanks David, that means alot. Anytime man. I'm always looking for the same as well. Really glad to hear that it was of some help to her. Take care buddy & see ya in a few months. Dave
Thanks Dave - really enjoyed the video. Have a great trip!! See you next year.
Your the best dude, love watching your videos, really makes me want to get out!
Hell yeah. Love to hear that they are motivating you. What do you want me to make videos about next? Always looking for ideas.

Hey Francis. You're welcome buddy. Happy you enjoy that stuff:)
Love your work bro! Thanks again for the videos. You’re truly inspiring.

Interesting and inspiring video. Have a great adventure in Utah and I hope you get some great images.
Will do, Andy! Thanks

Hi Dave, Ed Roane here .... Thank you again for all the help
You're welcome, Ed. Good to hear from you!
I understand you use Photoshop to edit your photos. Unfortunately, I am using Lightroom with Luminar 4 as a plug-in. Would you also use Luminar in your paid editing video series?
Would you also consider teaching your landscape photography skill using hand-held camera?
I could listen to your talks all day. You share so much value in a simple but condensed way. I really like the way you think and your approach towards photography. Too bad this is your last video for a while, hope you start uploading again soon. :)
Thank you
Anytime man! Thanks for watching:)
Hello Dave! thanks to share with us your videos and tips! i really apprieciate your pedagogy! i'm a french amateur photographer. i have a question, in case of bracketing set blended to hdr for example, what's the better file format to save? TIFF? thank you very very much
Hello. I use PSD which is called large document format.
Hey Dave, long time no seen, hope you are good. I really appreciate your work and what you teach us. Thank you! You really changed my way to see things in my life and how to progress.
Would like to see more advice on the business side of a landscape photographer, predigting the future, how to train my eyes in composition and post processing and so on.
And how do you manage the lockdown? Beeing out in nature is a huge part of your business. Does the lockdown impact you?
Hey! Thanks. Glad to hear that. Hope you're doing well:)

COVID stuff: Was at my house for about 2 months during lockdown. Luckly I have private woods so they can't close it down. Lots of trail running & hiking.
Now all the places I go backpacking are opened back up.
Take care,

when are you back on youtube please on Tuesdays
Dave, love the content. I'm going on my first solo photography adventure trip this month... 6 days on my own. Have any advice?
Sure. I'm 9 months late. Pack way less than you think you need:) How did it go?
Dave, thank you for the time and effort you put in the past couple months to create the latest series of videos. I know there was also several months of field work involved. The comments from the past couple months of videos reflects how valuable they have been to many people, myself included. This video is no exception. Keep up the great work.
You're welcome, D! It's always a fun project to create & work on. Look forward to the next one. Happy shooting & see ya in a few months. Dave
Great episode Dave! It's great to see another photographer lead the pack and not follow it. Happy exploring and we look forward to seeing what you come back with! And yes, hopefully you will do more of these Q&A sessions.
Thanks Brian. Really glad you enjoyed it & thank you for the feedback. I'll do more for sure:) Take care & enjoy the week!
Great answers. Thank you. Looking forward to hearing from you again some time soon. Have fun on that next adventure.
Hey Thomas. Thanks for the feedeback. I'll do another Q&A in the future, for sure. Take care,
Dave
Totally agree regarding the need for folks to dip their toes in the shallow end before they begin diving off the high board. I recall (distinctly) my first 'rough' outing when I was a lad. What an eye opener!
Best of luck my friend and safe passage!
Yup! No kidding:) Thanks Joe, you too! Will do. Take care buddy.
Thanks for the response, Dave - I know you are a busy person.
I live in what I believe is the thickest concentration of grizzly bears in the lower 48. I have never had a problem - keep as clean a camp as you can, don't cook raw meat and hang food properly. Bears here are not habituated. to backpackers' food like Yosemite, Seq., Kings, etc. I. have also come to learn that neither the vaults nor the ursack are to protect your food from. a bear - they are to protect the bear from a food reward - OK, got it. But I am planning. some trips where there are not any large trees, so I guess I'll get the ursack.
I enjoy your channel (and have subscribed awhile ago) - its a refreshing perspective on many things. I am in awe of your organizational skills - I am more the absent minded professor type and could never approach that level - impressive! :).
Thanks again - Doug
Dave, thanks for your words of wisdom and common sense, something that doesn't exist a lot these days. Love your videos and do take care on your hikes and projects. Looking forward to your future videos and experiences. Thank you again.
Thanks DX!
Thank you for everything. I learn so much from you and your vids are just perfect. Will wait for your next vid.
You're most welcome!
Great video Dave, I agree 100% about not sharing your locations I am always looking for somewhere that is not all over the web, Also for me knowing all about a location that I havent been to removes any romance or mystery from any Photo I like. Good shooting on your next trip.
For sure!
Lee filters are not very good as they are not really neutral. I have used these filters but I would recommend Breakthrough photography ND filters and they are extremely good.
Best wishes for an inspiring Spring and Summer! Nothing beats the PNW, I’m so excited to be moving home this summer! Enjoy the beauty- and we’ll all be looking forward to whatever you create and share next year! Cheers!
I agree. Nothing beats it! Good luck on your trip back. Spring is starting right now and things are getting green:) Take care & see ya soon. Dave
Safe travels Dave, have a memorable trip and we'll see you in the fall, cheers.
I'd love to see....and I guess many would you popping a quick few minute videos throughout your trip?? no editing...just a quick Hi to keep us in touch??
I like your idea alot! I won't promise, due to internet access, but it will be in the back of my head:) Thanks Jonathan!
@@DaveMorrow Fantastic!! fingers crossed!
That’s not true, I’ve been in three avalanches, fought off two bear attacks, kicked a mountain lion in the throat, stepped and 14 rattle snakes, lost two toes to frostbite, fallen off a 50 foot cliff and landed in a large patch of cactus. The only training I’ve had is first responder training. First I respond then I figure it out. I’m a badass!
hey come back safe to us man - like ur vids
Thanks!
Dear Dave, I am a enthusiast landscape photographer from the Netherlands using a Nikon D800. I have learned a lot of your tips and tricks. I was wondering if you could share your D800/D810 settings for (daylight) landscape photography. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
Great to hear! Nice to meet you, Gert. I do have one on that exact topic. It's included in my complete camera technique course inside the landscape photography school membership, linked below. There is a settings step by step checklist for those camera setups & a video to go with it, plus full shooting technique. The membership teaches everything I know about landscape photography. www.davemorrowphotography.com/upgrade-membership
Hope that helps!
Dave Morrow I've actually been landscape backpacking for over 40 years. I just wanted to know if these Ursacks are worth it. I've seen reports and videos that tell of bears really munching on them. They don't get in, but pretty much destroy everything inside, along with slobbering on everything. Have you ever experienced an attach on your Ursack? If not, does this concern you?
- especially if you are. around tree. line with no good hanging options.
Thx - Doug
I haven't had a bear bite mine. Works well for rodents. I sleep with my food by my head except in griz country. Lots of crushed bear can videos too. Scent proofing everything is key. Do a 7 day water fast at your house to test your ability to hike out with no food:) It's good for the body anyway... Always carry personal response beacon for extraction.
Thanks for all that you do, Dave. Wishing you an awesome and safe adventure on your southwest trip!
You're welcome, Jeff. Thanks for watching the vids! Will do. Take care. Dave
Where did this man go😢
Backpacking & taking photos! New videos coming out soon.

Hoping there will be a future 'update' to how your photography is going Dave, and what life has taught you since April of 2019....which it shows was the last RUclips Video you presented to us. Stay safe!

Hey young man, this Welsh guy will miss your vids greatly BUT I am delighted your giving yourself a well earned break. I hope you re-charge your human batteries, refresh yourself and come back with a new project when it seems the right time to do so. Stay safe, well & happy.
Thanks Toby. I really appreciate that buddy! Working on some new content now, so I'll see ya soon. Take care & thanks again. Dave
Question here. I've been researching the van life/car life lifestyle and have figured out a way to make it work for me. The two reasons why I want to try the lifestyle is to save money on rent and just being able to tell people I've done something crazy in life before I'm too old to do anything in life at all. Literally the only thing that I'm not sure how to tackle, though, is the issue of keeping photography equipment safe in my car (I live in a city) and during the summer months just preventing any mechanical damages resulting from the inside of the vehicle reaching 100 degrees in the sizzling summer heat. Do you have any tips? The reason why the last thing is a fear is because I once took a three month trip to Spain, left with about 700 pictures, but a few years later lost all the pictures because of leaving the external hard drive in my car on a hot day.
Hi Mason, You won't last long doing it for the reasons you are doing it for. You gotta do it because you really want to do it deep down. I don't do van life, but backpacking full time. I just use my vehicle to sleep in while traveling to trailheads. Van life looks kind boring personally. Too much sitting & driving. In regards to your question. Ensure all your stuff & hope for the best. Nothing in a car is ever safe. Good luck.
Hello Dave, I really enjoyed your videos and learned quiet a bit from you. I was quiet inspired and having dusted off my camera from the corner has now started experimenting and trying out some of these methods, its a slow process but will get there someday. In your next video series, could you add a segment on your learning process when you started learning photography. It will certainly be motivating. Thanks GB
Good question. Thanks
Hey Dave 👋🏻 as a new follower of your work, i'd like to say how much I admire your honesty and integrity. Congrats on achieving your life goals and I wish you every success in your future. keep up the great work. 👍🏻
Thanks Graham! Good to have you here buddy. Lots of good learning material here too: www.davemorrowphotography.com/2013/01/tutorials-photography-post-processing.html Take care and thanks for the kind words!
The way that you look at things is so different I don't even know if that's the right word to use but anyway I like the way you look at things and I'm glad you were able to do your own thing and no longer have to answer to a boss I'm the same way I cannot stand taken orders from anybody either. Not sure if I'm going the passive route but either in photography, filming or editing I can pretty much do all those things without a boss so that's what I plan on doing. I'm not much for camping and hiking anymore I done a lot of it when I was young not that I'm old going to be 50 here soon and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up. anyway, I like watching your videos like I said before you explain things very well and I understand them so I'll be watching.
Thanks Cory. Really glad you like the vids!

Thanks for this interesting and unique video. I agree with you on the drones, thaey don't belong in a lot of places as they are disruptive and on sharing GPS coordinates! A few years ago I began studying great artists, and to have you mention Albert Bierstadt was interesting as I'm so in awe of his art. Take area, be safe and enjoy your journey.

Woah you left an aeronautical engineering job that's just 9 to 5? Wow. There's a 996 meme in China, meaning 9am to 9pm, 6 days a week. 9 to 5 is eh, really not that unmanageable.
But yeah, you're making more, doing good work and public service to like minded people, and you're enjoying yourself and the fruits of your work, all that is better than working for someone else. Chase your dreams.
haha. Yes I did. I find photography to be much more challenging than engineering at a large company. Photography also pays much better & I'm my own boss. This gives me more control over the long term vision of what I do, in a sense, the engineering of my life:)
Very good series, Dave. So true about engineering lol, I went to an engineering/science school for biology/chemistry pre-med and there were many times close to tears.
haha. It's brutal!
Enjoyed the chat. Let’s do it again in the future.
Have a great adventure Dave. Safe and fun travels.

Thanks so much Jeffrey:)
I have a question (if it is not too late). I use a hard sided kayak and paddleboard, and I've been wanting to switch to inflatable for river (not technical) and lake photo trips in the mountains. I always go solo, and I'm wondering if there is a type you would recommend. I carry the standard landscape photography gear.
I have a few of them, but would recommend this to start out. It covers the most types of situations you'd need. www.alpackaraft.com/rafting/product/wolverine/
