The reason Blair doesn't know Top Cat is that, despite Top Cat being an American cartoon, it was not NEARLY as famous in the USA as it was in the UK, where apparently it was played all the time. In the USA, it was just one of dozens (if not hundreds) of Hanna Barbera cartoons that didn't get seen much after its original airing. Nobody in the USA even remembers Top Cat ever existed (except those of us who have specialized knowledge).
I felt for Blair in that moment because I have also never heard of Top Cat
Hanna Barbera cartoons were shown a lot on Boomerang; Jetsons, Flintstones, and Yogi were on a lot more than other cartoons. That being said, Top Cat wasn't nearly on Boomerang as much as the others. Then, as time went on, the shows that were on Cartoon Network moved to Boomerang, thus phasing it out almost completely. Dad is still surprised I know of and watched Snorks and Snagglepuss
As an Australian I'm in a similar boat to Blair. I have heard of Top Cat but I would never recognise the theme tune and couldn't tell you a thing about the show although I think I did see a few eps as a kid. It wasn't a high rotation repeated cartoon like the Jetsons or Flintstones or Yogi.

I had no name recognition. I did a quick google search, and I remember seeing him show up on bumpers and little short bits on Cartoon Network. Never watched the show or even really knew what he was from.

I think instead of Calamities, the game designers should have called them CAT-ASTROphies, and instead of 11, they had 9 (as in 9 lives)
The 11 confused me as cats have 9

@@turnipcrazy4602 I miss that. I also miss Spellslingers. G&S kind of just... died when they switched to a livestreaming/paywall focus, in my opinion, and that saddens me.
Polygon’s Overboard used to fill that hole in my heart before I found NRB personally! although I admit I haven’t watched it for a couple of years, the early episodes are still definitely classics and worth checking out! def has the vibes of an American NRB to me

My first cat was called Pussy. It was a wild adopted stray. I vaguely rememer how they looked with their little white socks. They were super protective I'm told. Always camping out under our strollers and attacking anything that disturbed us sleeping and caused us to cry. Lashing out at invading gechos and spiders etc. It got its name because dad refused to stand at the front door at night shouting out "Sylvester" every evening as that would make him look silly. "Puss, Puss, Puss!" was much better.

Top Cat was also called Boss Cat for a time. I think it was one of several cartoons (e.g. Hair Bear Bunch) that were lossely based on the Sgt Bilko show.

This video is how I learned that TOPCAT, an astronomy software package that I use regularly in my job, was stylized after a cartoon. 😸
I (an American) also learned about the cartoon from using TOPCAT! 😹 Though for me someone told me about it when I started using it in grad school a few years ago, and that was in Australia so it might've been more popular over there. Apparently the logo even when I started using it was a picture of the eponymous cartoon character, and only recently changed to be more generic.

Picked up MLEM at Bournemouth Beach Head this year, its a great fun game, really high quality and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend it!

At 54:24, Jon moved 4 and both Blair and Tilly got off on a moon but when Jon rolled again the ship was way back on the board. Am I missing something?
Could be the camera changing positions on the board? That threw me a few times but if you look at the numbers they land on it all checks out.

Would love to see more Cosmic Encounters! So many character combinations lend to so much replayability! Could even do some kind of Cosmic Encounters league with multiple smaller games for a championship or Lord of the Board!

I can believe it, where I grew up (near Washington DC) Top Cat was only occasionally seen in episodes of Wacky Racers -- his show having long been canceled. And that was back in the '80s, before she was born.
Are we sure Top Cat is American? I'm 31 and never heard of it. Blair and I are both from the same region too.

yall didnt play with personal objectives and the bonus markers for rocket spaces, the first time i taught this game i also forgot to play with the rocket space markers and the difference is massive. with the rocket markers you can refresh dice, move 4 spaces, and get additional points, the first two making the trip to deepspace a lot easier

Strikes me fhat much like Felinia, the cat thing is a gimmick rather an integral part of the game. At least they embrace it with fish and wool planets, Felinia your a merchant selling silks, wood, ect, and there are cats. 😂
