  • The hidden meaning of a folk song tells a lot about our past, our shared labor history. I will bet you've never heard the story because, the story of Mother Jones is a missed-story, or a mystery, as is the severity of our struggle for liberation as working people. We've not heard it!
    HIS-Story has overwhelmed u.s. on all accounts of the past, so gladly we glimpse into our truth by oral story.
    Jeana Brown is singing and telling a matriarchal truth story she heard from her grandmother, Maxine O'Neal.

    I live in the mountains of SC and we were taught 6 white horses. Thank you again. Your videos give me hope while hoping the ones that really need to watch them... will. As the red rooster needs to be slain again as I am hungry for long overdue dumplings

    Jeana…thank you so much. My father was raised In West Virginia, born in 1900. I wonder about the environment back then. I know it was far from easy. He was the youngest of 11 children. Your sharing has touched my heart.

      Thanks very much for taking the time to view and comment. I think it was rough back then, mom said the creek was black with coal dust in the 1940's. Great grandfather had a cistern he caught rain water above the house in the mountain and allowed the pressure to run it down to the house. I hope you'll view the other videos and share / comment. I've been slow getting a new one out however, one will be here by the end of next week! Thanks again, you've encouraged me today!💜

    😅 My Italian grandma would sing a song when she cooked. Grandma sang it in Italian. I understood the words but really didn’t know what was the meaning. Well !! She gave me “what for” as I sang and danced around the kitchen. I didn’t know why. When I got older I heard the song again. The words seem so harmless now. It was a man singing to the girl he loves and begging her to marry him. He’s lost so much sleep 😴 over his love ❤️ for her that he’ begging her for her hand in marriage. My Italian grandma thought it was scandalous for me, a child, to be 🎶 singing such a 💕 love song. That was a very long time ago.

    One time, after my memere passed away, I had a dream about her (now I've had dreams that have predicted pregnancy (and their gender) and even saw my grandmothers death the night before it happened (God Jesus, rest her beautiful soul). And one night I had a dream that I saw her, and of course her being passed on I was hysterically overjoyed and she put up one finger to me, as if to hush me, and then she sand "She'll be comin around the mountain when she comes, she'll be comin around the mountain when she comes",
    She had the most beautiful light around her, she looked so so healthy (she was sick when she passed on almost 4 years ago).
    Its only a few times she came to me in my dream to send me a message. And I knew it was her. I KNOW it was her, not just a dream. God gave me a gift. Even this woman I met while I was in the navy (who proclaimed she spoke to God, and I with my whole heart believe her) said I had the same kind of gift that God gave her, he gave me too. Its real folks. This song was derived from the Christian song "When the Chariot Comes", meaning Jesus' second coming i think. Its happening. I know no one is going to read this, so I had to get it off my chest, I believe we're in the time of the second coming (although NOBODY but God knows, its just a feeling). So if by chance someone does read this. Repent. And I don't mean talk to a priest or some bs (and if that's what you believe I don't judge you, no one is 100 percent right in their religion, there is some truth in ALL religion), I mean talk to God one-on-one because He hears you. He is listening. Everything that's going on in the world is a sign from God that we are very messed up right now. Don't worry, I'm not crazy lady, I'm some crazy 21 y.o navy vet who's actually decently sane. I haven't seen war face to face, I was just a mechanic. So don't discredit my thoughts for my military experience. Lol

      Had similar experiences with dreams and seeing my loved ones before they passed. I was on the phone with my aunt and saw my cousin pass and said it to her and she gasped and told me that she had literally just breathed her last breath. It’s odd but I think you’re right God has been sending messages

    Your stories of how music was used as code just fascinates me. It's a lot like partisans fighting an underground war against an occupying enemy force. The miners had to use the same tactics to thwart their oppressors. I've heard this song my entire life, and now at 64, I finally know what it means! Thanks for the playing and singing! Looks like G is a little low for your range! LOL! I could fill in for you there, that's just my key!

    • @jeanabrown
      @jeanabrown  Год назад

      I even thought when I was doing that video maybe that's why the men sang the G 😂😂😂 it is to low for me! I always sing it in C, great observation!

    • @cavecookie1
      @cavecookie1 Год назад

      @@jeanabrown LOL! That reminds of an old Arlo Guthrie song. He sings (talks, in typical Arlo style!) about what key he should do the song...G, as in, "Gee, that's a big clam!", or C, as in "I hope it doesn't see me!", or F, as in "HE SEES ME!"

    Thank you for sharing this story I really wish everyone knew the true meaning of it. I never knew the pink pajama version until I was watching a British t.v. show and that is how they were singing it. Myself and my family have all worked for and been apart of a heavy equipment union beginning with my grandpa being apart of it and working his way up. So I know about the plight of the workers struggles and sacrifices that these men went through to get it organized. I'm going to be sure to share it with everyone I can. Hopefully you'll get some more subscribers from it.

    My kin Are from Panther, West Virginia, McDowell County. Coal miners and their families are the backbone of this country. I enjoyed my stays in the mountains and the hollers of Panther, West Virginia. This city girl learned a whole new lifestyle and I enjoyed it so much and I have great respect for all of the people who live in that region. God bless coal miners and their families.
    Where is Cabin Creek? What city is it close to and what state is it in?

    But originally this was referring to the "next coming of jesus". By "she" referring to the chariot He'll be coming. The original song didn't have that pijama part

    • @jeanabrown
      @jeanabrown  2 года назад

      Correct. That's what they say... They also said it was a nursery rhyme when I was in school. The song originated in Appalachia, so I reckon it is what it is.
