    This channel really breathed a new life into my EDH career. Cedh feels like the only place where any given playgroup is actually on the same page. Proxies? Go for it. Combos? Absolutely. Everyone's there to play with overpowered stuff and you never have that awkward moment where someone holds back a win because someone else is gonna get irl mad.

    • @thomasmcmahan2631
      @thomasmcmahan2631 11 месяцев назад +25

      yeah somehow cedh feels more casual and laid back. Casual commander was just always kinda toxic imo.

      I always think it’s ironic when people talk about making a new banned list for cedh🤨. We are the players who actually use the banned list. Casual commander (whatever that means, exactly) needs to make a new banned list.
      Then we can break that format too 😉

      I play a lot of Commander and occasionally cEDH at a local store, it's my favorite of the stores in the area. Finding a store where the playgroups are your style can be hard, I do like cEDH but I also like my theme decks like Kibo 🍌

      This. Cedh's card pool is so small conlared to casual that everybody knows most cards and how most decks would be constructed. It's kind of like playing modern with two meta decks. You basically know what the opponent will do, leading to people understanding how and a much more streamlined experience. Like sure somebody could pull up with some jank cedh combo but if they are trying to win they will be running the meta cards that people will know.

    Tidebinder could always counter something, it could either turn off dockside or thoracle on the stack, but when you don't need to stop the win this way, it could always turn off one of infinite value pieces like the one ring, Tymna, Kraum, Thrasios, Tivit (ignores ward, btw), Kinnan, Kenrith, Najeela, Talion, even Bowmasters, Sheoldred and so forth
    It's not indefinite, since it can die, but it is still better than 'the end of turn'

    I would love for Anim Pakal to be good in Winota. Having artifact creature tokens would help so much in turning on metalcraft for Jor Kadeen (or Mox Opal for those that play it) and generating many triggers reliably is huge.
    Unfortunately it doesn’t do anything when it comes down from a Winota trigger until the next turn when it will create one token, which again doesn’t trigger Winota because it wasn’t declared as an attacker. The way it is, it will generate 1 trigger 1 to 2 turns after it comes down (depending on if it was cast or brought into the game by Winota) which might be too slow.
    It also only gains one counter each combat so it would need to stay on the board way longer than a Loyal Apprentice for example to impact the game.
    But i’m sure people will try it and i’ll be looking forward to their experiences!
    Amazing episode as always!

    Re: Kutzil, literal Abolisher has been available in the command zone with Myrel from BRO. That being said, she's a 4 drop and makes tokens rather than a 3 drop card drawer, so take that as you will.
    New Ghalta is fantastic for my Yasova Dragonclaw (non cedh obvs) deck because I was just running normal Ghalta as a Natural Order target, so the added bonus of dumping my hand if I have good things to dump turn 3 is great.
    Honestly, really loving this set, maybe even my favorite of any relatively recent release - lots of fun new stuff to work with, Xavier Sal in particular seems like a guy I wanna build a couple different decks for because he goes crazy so easily

  • @TheZerneborg

    The first thing I thought of to do with spelunking was any Thrasios deck, if you are activating Thras for value rather than "infinite" mana draw you deck I think it adds more since any lands you hit come in untapped which could even potentially get you 1 or maybe even 2 more activation's. The other idea I got was for a Tymna/Dargo using alter of the wretched. I think it can be a good value turn and if you are looping it the turn you breach or play breach when you start looping then you are essentially drawing 14 cards for each sac of Dargo. The issue is for this loop you would need Dargo, Birgi, Atog/Arcbound Reaver/anything that lets you sac artifacts, Altar of the Wretched, Breach and either LED or infinite mana. Plus if you don't have the breach before you start then you essentially need the infinite mana in order to return Altar to hand to continue the loop. I don't know Mardu colours very well so I am not sure what the pay off would be or if it would even be worth it since I know a few Mardu decks use reanimation package with Hoardling and Saw in Half to win the game that just seems cheaper and easier. But it's a lot of value if you pull it off and I like it, just don't know if it would be worth playing.

    ghalta could see play in kenrith reanimator lists. discard outlet lets you win at instant speed and as a bonus it hides interaction/ reduces the vulnerability of some lines. and since its etb its pretty abusable for flicker effects like emiel. its a great addition to kenrith intuition creature piles for instant speed wins ghalta and dockside emiel is an instant speed win pile for intuition.

    Orvar is another that would love the kitesail, the blue god that gives instants rebound, and the roamer. Kitesail is just easy repeatable removal thats also flying so easy evasion for a combat kill, and roamer can pop off by making copies of itself plus orvars triggers, and you can name fairy for spellstutter sprite etbs. The blue god can rebound to copy himself to trigger the death transform and it can semi ramp. Plus with the new token rules, you can transform the token lands (that arent legendary) if an op removes the god

    Ghalta feels like a potential piece for a Golgari Reanimator deck. Something like you Entomb+Reanimate it after a Peer into the Abyss or something, and drop half the creatures in your deck along with like, a Gray Merchant and just drain everyone out. I know Golgari is in a bit of a rough space currently, but something like that seems, at the very least, pretty cool.
    Maybe some instant speed shenanigans with like, discarding a huge chunk of your deck through like, a Necropotence, and popping a Shadow of the Grave to return all your creatures then instant speed reanimating Ghalta for the win? It's a fun theory-craft, and while I think it's bad AS a commander, it feels like it has some fun niche potential.

    Charismatic Conqueror is pretty darn good in a Stasis deck like Derevi, but that deck would need quite a bit of help to work. Could also be alright in a slower Tymna deck since you'll be on stuff like Grim Hireling anyway.

    Chimil may have a pretty good home in Jhoira, Ageless Insight. The ability to get to 6 by t3 isnt asking a lot of her(by either casting her on t1 or having an untap spell). The deck already wants to prolong the game, chimil guarantees you win the counter war as well as replacing the spell at EoT. And then it protects the combo pieces that aren’t uncounterably placed on the battlefield through Jhoiras ability. Im straight up replacing Coveted Jewel for this for at least a dozen games

    Wayta, Trainer Prodigy + Blazing Sunsteel + any source of indestructible (1 white mana) or indestructible creature lets you win the game. It costs at least 7 generic, Red, two Green, and two White = 14 mana. You don't necessarily have to spend it all at once, but Wayta doesn't buff your ramp spells like Kinnan, so I don't really think this combo will win tournaments as far as I've brewed it.

  • @09Dragonite
    @09Dragonite 11 месяцев назад

    The primary issue with Ghalta in cEDH is that it is MUCH easier for most decks to produce infinite mana than it is for them to draw out their libraries. And many existing mana loops already draw cards ass they produce the mana. Ghalta only makes one of those obsolete, so you would still need a way to get your deck into your hand for this to be worthwhile- and since so many mana loops generally are the most efficient ways to draw cards, you would likely still have a ton of ways to produce the mana required to cast everything you want for basically free.
    That said, one thing Ghalta does amazingly well is "put creatures into play" instead of casting them. So they aren't as vulnerable to disruption on the stack, and there are likely some stax pieces that Ghalta can play through. Perhaps it would be worth playing Ghalta in some sort of a Yasharn list. I can see an awkward argument for it in Etali too, but I think Etali is far too similar to Kinan for it to be actively beneficial to the deck most of the time.
    Ooohhhh, or maybe it DOES belong in a Jund 'Bad-Naus' deck... I've been brewing a Tana/Tevesh list for a little bit now to play a more grindy midrange Jund list lately that might have some potential. Korvold is defaulted to being an incredible commander, so currently I'm trying to find the niche that Tana/Tevesh fills that Korvold and Tymna/Tana Blood Pod doesn't yet.

    And I was wondering, won't the roaming throne break Winota?

    Blue farm doesn't need Dismantler, but I've been on a Opus Thief build recently and being a more midrange list I think is a good home for it
    Did they not mention Najeela when talking about Kutzil? Definitely testing Warrior kitty in Warrior queen

    I'm surprised to not see the new Partner discussed.
    Also, Descend is actually 3 abilities really: Descend, Descend X, and Fathomless Descent. So there's 7 set mechanics lol

    • @janmelantu7490
      @janmelantu7490 11 месяцев назад

      Nah, they’re all the same mechanic. “Fathomless Descent” is literally a fancy word for Descend X, and “descended” is a check for “did your descend number increase at some point?”

    Kutzil is very interesting for Sisay. You want anyway to stop your opponents on your turn. I play a Displacer Kitten combo in Sisay so I am playing also Teferi. As Teferi is more relevant for the combo Kutzil is more of a second choice. But still good to have :)

    • @NotAWhaleAtAll
      @NotAWhaleAtAll 11 месяцев назад

      She's also safer, since if you don't need Teferi specifically, Kutzil doesn't protect your opponents (if you don't manage to win, for example, and are forced to pass the turn)

  • @NotAWhaleAtAll

    There're cards like Burning Earth and Manabards for Ojer, it could be interesting, because stuff like that adds up quickly

    No mention of grapeshot, guttersnipe or pyrohemia with Ojer Axonil? Not sure if it will be good, but it's at least moderately scary. Tap 3, deal each opponent 12 at EOT, untap, tap like 5 to deal 20.
    If it could slow the game down with stax effects like harsh mentor, taking 1 dmg to 4+ damage (pumping can make it even higher) seems good inevitability.
    There might not be enough stax pieces to really play that way and not enough interaction in mono red to justify it... but I still find it spooky..

    • @matthewherrmann9526
      @matthewherrmann9526 11 месяцев назад

    How about new Malcolm with the cheap proliferate cantrips and turns? Maybe turn 3 or 4 you’ll have enough counters and you can just start looting turns and casting them for free while reaching your wincon. Is that too magical land for cedh?
