Fun fact: during the bridge on Caroline Shut up, Caroline does a riff that might sound dissonant towards the end, but its actually a sort of reference to Parachute and Door, she even adds the lyric "and ive got to trust it now" which comes directly from Parachute, before immediatley doing the infamous riff.
this album is an experience altogether. her operatic vocals over these deconstructed artpop instrumentals are fantastic. the visuals that accompany the album (including the music videos) are fantastic. she's also her own "creative director" of sorts, so she's very involved in her visuals as well. you should really check them out! a world building experience i think
I think you're wrong in saying it's not danceable music when Ocean of Tears came on. That's one of the best dance moments on the album and during her live shows. Gays will dance to anything.
I think I was a little vague in my point here, you are right! There is a clear groove for sure but the way she writes vocal melodies a lot of the time is rhythmically unorthodox, so it breaks the feeling of regular movement. It was really only in the verse as well, the other sections fall in line with the groove pretty well.
Danny L Harles production is so nice on this album. Worth having a look at the DJ Ocean tracks on his Harlecore album as these also feature Caroline’s incredible vocals.
What an album. I've been a fan of Chairlift for a few years now, but only just decided to give Caroline's solo material a listen. I can't believe I've been missing out on this for so long. This might be my favorite find so far this year.
I love this album and really enjoyed your analysis of all the songs. As someone who doesn’t know music it was really interesting. Made me appreciate it even more than I did before.
Amazing reaction! I love the way you carefully go through the chord, structure, lyric. I’ve been listen to this epic album for a long time, but I still get many interesting insights from your video. I would love if you do reactions on hatchie, rina sawayama or chrli xcx’s former work!
Caroline has had a couple new single releases and played some yet to be released songs live that are more danceable, I’d love for you to react to a new release of hers in the future 🤠 she’s an insane talent there’s nobody like her
How im feeling now by charli xcx if you want something lyrically fun + experimental sounds Froot by Marina and the diamonds for more lyric heavy things with chill vibes
I've already listened to both like 50 times over haha I don't think I could give an authentic reaction for youtube! I get the sense that she's far from done yet though, so the next album of hers I'll do for sure. Her songwriting is exceptional.
Recommend Tears of Gold(Stripped Version) by Canadian Moroccan self taught vocalist and songwriter Faouzia. She is a songwriting and musical genius in her own right.
are you thinking about like where to put potential melodies as ur listening? or perhaps you're seeing the sonics as like one whole picture that you're thinking about what could be additives to it?? i just noticed you talk a little bit over the words sometimes
plz react to kacey musgraves she is a country music songwriter you both have a guitar 🎸 and her albums are amazing but her latest made me disappointed and she’s got six grammy awards.
I liked the reaction, but you are too focused on analyzing the structure and recreating the song on your guitar that the content of the songs kinda goes over your head. Though keep it up!
Caroline Polachek is also professional trained in opera singing! She’s only going up from here, her new stuff is incredible too
Caroline is actually able to mimic the sound of autotune with her natural vocals. It's a unique talent of hers.
There is a video of Caroline squawking in tune with geese and all these people are just staring at her screaming in the park.

infamous?

I think you would like Rina Sawayama album named SAWAYAMA, it’s a pretty bold and unapologetic album, definitely one of the bestest of 2020
I love this album and really enjoyed your analysis of all the songs. As someone who doesn’t know music it was really interesting. Made me appreciate it even more than I did before.

Parachute is my favorite vocal performance by her. ughh so good
It’s honestly so underrated. People tend to hate it as a closer but it’s so soft and warm and gentle.
The bass in New Normal follows reggaeton drum-pattern

pls react to more Charli XCX, or AG Cook’s “Apple” album😭💚
react taylor swift evermore
Nice reaction but for being a songwriter he pays like zero attention to the lyrics and talks a lot over the songs 😂
I liked the reaction, but you are too focused on analyzing the structure and recreating the song on your guitar that the content of the songs kinda goes over your head. Though keep it up!
