I use mosquito hooks .. #10 or #8. Usually 1 egg but will run 2 eggs for visibility. You can use treble hooks but make sure 2 of the treble hooks are imbedded into the egg
Hey, great video about your bait choices for big bear. maybe in the future you could put a video on what size hooks and how you thread those baits I know I have seen a few on powerbait and maybe I've missed them but I would love to see it again. Thanks keep up the good work
Great vid! With the Powerbait I like to keep that seal on a new jar open to about half way. I can still use the bait and when I don’t use it all if you tighten the lid up in the off season it will stay fresh for next trout season. I’ve had some luck as well when I’m lazy using a treble hook to whacky rig the mouse tail. Happy fishing!
I have tried all types of power bait and haven't found any difference from flavors but I use red in the day and something brighter in the morning and evening.
Yeah it's a good argument that the standard scent of Powerbaits aren't any better or worse than the garlic etc... but I have found that powerbaits can work better when the water is super cold vs a gulp egg or mice tail sprayed with scent.
Dip dough baits in the water before casting to harden the outside and they’ll stay on the hook better. My favorite dough is the Gulp Chunky Cheese with glitter and garlic. It’s a dollar more expensive but the scent is a little stronger and seems to out-fish the the PB branded dough. Could just be my luck.
Great picks video. I'm newer to the sport, as in....I was using a spinner for everything up until a few months ago. As I go to use eggs and Powerbait, I'm unclear as to how you would rig it. Is it bobber with LOTS of lead? Is it along on a hook with a weight up 12" so the weight sinks, but the bait floats up from the bottom? Would love a basics on it. Thx!
@@TroutWest right on! Yeah they’re stocking 10-16th this up come week So hopefully I catch something since I’ve never been there. What are your preferred fishing spots for that late?
Whenever I go to the store I see so many variants of the eggs like Gulp eggs/Power eggs etc and lots of variants of the dough as well - Turbo dough/Gulp dough/Regular dough. Do you think there is any difference between the variants or are they basically the same thing?
They're basically the same stuff the variant can be an added attractant scent that's about it outside of that you can do the same thing with two jars of different colors and just mixing the powerbait yourself. I suppose if you're already interested in mixing two particular colors it would save you money to buy the turbo version that has that mix but I prefer to customize things myself
Do you let these baits soak from shore? I prefer working a lure or fly, but have 2 grandkids who are old enough now to get into fishing. Planning on a few trips with them in 2021. Gonna use a double treble hook rig. Thanks for a reply.
How do you feel about the floro orange , effective or no ? And when using eggs , what is most effective , single egg or multiple eggs on the hook ? Thanks for the helpful tips , 👍
The eggs in this video are fluorescent orange I don't mind it in the power bait but if I'm going to use that color it will be in the eggs or on the mice tail. As for the single or double egg setup it really depends on what I'm going for if I feel the fish need the visibility because they are schooling by or there's no concentrations then I will use two eggs....if I am in them school and I know they are there but they are being a little picky then I will use one egg. The 10 lb fish I got at Big Bear was on a single egg. But I've had success using two plenty of days.
How do you rig the salmon eggs and mice tails?

Never used the “power eggs” do you use treble hook? With 3 eggs? Or just a snells salmon egg hook?

Great info as usual. I really like the corn yellow PB.
Awesome share! We like both of those Mice Tails and Power Bait! Hope you are having a fantastic fishing season! Stay Safe!
Thanks! You too!

I use some of those same colors, but primarily Cheese Power Bait which seems to do great anywhere and everywhere, similar color to the Salmon Peach.
Yeah even the straight yellow can get it done.
Last time I went to Big Bear I used some salmon egg powerbait and I saw a small school of trout swim to my bait and swim off uninterested 😔😂
my go tos!

Killed them on mice tails a couple days ago! Orange/white was the ticket

Video coming really soon on that exact topic
How many eggs do you put on the hook? Have you ever fished bass lake? I’ll be at bass lake next weekend and trying some eggs and power night crawler.
1-2 eggs. Love bass lake. Go every year!

What size hooks are good for mice tail
#10 or #8 mosquito hook
@@TroutWest thanks.... Have you ever tried finishing for bass at either lake or do you know any good ones for bass
Do you still spray your garlic spread on the bait as well
Yep. Gonna cover scent soon

What do you mean by soak from shore?
@@TroutWest Cast and let sit. Check occasionally and reapply as needed.
