I'm learning this piece at the moment an cello and it has been great to listen to this and be able to correct my mistakes or to take some of his enthusiasm and and try to blend it into my cello playing. The way he does vibrato is magical, I have alwas struggled with vibrato; it breaks up half way through or sounds incomplete, but he does it perfectly. I love this piece :) You can get the score from most music stores the book is called 'Solos for the cello player' by Otto Derri. Debussy is in it!
thanks, I'm learning cello (working towards grade 5) and this is one of the pieces I'm playing at the moment and I couldn't work out how it was supposed to sound at first but your video reminded me!
I play cello 2,5 years. I had to play this song:) it was very hard work, but I'm so glad I did it:) I had to learn lots of technical features. I think it's not so simple for cellist like me:) sorry for my english, I'm Polish:)
Hi eddy, I play cello for 47 years, diploma and all, played Haydn, Dvorak, Elgar concertos, recorded all 6 Bach suites, like all cellists tried to play and record the hardest. Then I couldn't find recordings of student pieces for my students and had to record them in their lessons repeatedly on tiny gear; I decided to make a CD from it, although its not showing off anything. I enjoy today transcribing new pieces and improvising on stage.
@@avancti1739 I can’t believe it, I was just thinking of this piece the other day and how it actually unlocked my confidence in performance for me… I was 18 then now I’m 30 teaching k-12 orchestra and private instruction mainly on violin and piano.
So yes, it went well my reception was great… only I was told by my teacher back then that I did not need a piano accompaniment when I did so that automatically disqualified me. Since it was my teachers fault the educator told me she enjoyed it nonetheless since my rhythm was flawless even without the accompaniment
I'm currently working on this for flute, and wanted to hear a skilled performance of it. Very enjoyable and nicely done. Whatever mistake was there, you recovered from so smoothly, that even knowing where it was in the recording, I didn't catch it.
oh ich weiss noch wo ich diesen song in 2 wochen alleine lehren musste und mein vater mich ohne zu wissen vor eine band gestellt hat und ich musste vorpielen... mein gott ;) tolle version ^^ 5*
Congratulations Eddy! Yes its me in the video, I used to win all competitions too when I was young. I thought about your comment and don't think you mean intonation, but probably the sound. I play very light and without very little bow change noise. If you watch Rostropovich, DuPre you find the same, only you hear never La Cinqauntaine by them. I made a point of recording student literature with a concert quality sound.
You can get it from most music stores. It is called Solos for the cello player by Otto Deri. Get the book with the piano accompliment in it, it really helps when you have to play the pieces. It also has Debussy 'Romance' in it and many more lovely picece which are a joy to play :) Good Lucck :)
@georgcello The 360p recording is out of sync due to a fault of RUclips. All other resolutions, 240p, 480p and 720p are ok. The video man of this recording put my attention to the original, which I checked today. It is absolutely accurate. Due to internal changes at youtube some settings get affected. Just don't watch the 360p one. Cheers, G.
Hi I use this clip to practice on my organ this music and it teaches me how to imporve the performance. I play together with you, you do the "you tube" and I play my organ
Hi eddy, this piece is written for a 50th birthday. if you play it faster, you really miss the occasion. if you think quite smartly either of us has bad intonation, why don't you respond with a video you playing it, and I have look.
@georgcello Even if it is easy its really pretty! I love playing this piece, and i would love to see Rostropovich mess up! Stuff like that builds self-esteem.
I am playing this now and I'm in the eighth grade you sounded great but your wrong the first note in the entire song is a pickup meaning up bow you started down bow. :/
lol i am attempting this song but i generally fail at tenor clef even tho i'm at grade 5 so should know better! XD i guess i just fail at life! Beautiful. i hope i can play lyk this ^_^
@cmandmc1991 wow ur like the 2nd person 2 tell me this, u all need the chill people make mistakes wit spelling, i no how to spell "cello" thank you very much.
At 3:21 he messes up, even professionals mess up. Kinda makes u feel tht its ok 2 mess up :] U no i really wish i could produce such a beautiful sound wen i play my chello :O u can tell the music flows right through his veins :D
Hey this is a great version, well done! I've posted a recording done on the Double Bass. I think the timbre gives it a more suiting feel, you should check it out.
Initially I wanted to discard this clip because of the mistake and wrong bowing. You are the first to mentionit! It's hard to practice an easy piece, because you always get it right and so you don't practice it. When then something happens in a performance like here a kid running around, you stuff up. Well - I have a video where Rostropovich stuffs up, you only notice when you know the piece. Nobody is perfect!
@bluerabbitvine You have to keep going. The Lord of the rhythm is unforgiving and can't be offended. Or the dancers fall over and the annoying foot tappers get confused.
No, it isn't. I just played this for a NYSSMA (New York State Student Music Associate) solo, and the adjudicator said that my tempo was almost perfect (not to say my solo was perfect...I had counting issues and bow issues...oh well). Point is, playing it "burning fast compared to this guy"...whoopdy doo, Ruin the piece.
+Swim Gaming , Hallo you are so correct - or not. The usual bowings sound so awful, that I refused to teach this piece for 20 years. Don't you think it sounds better with my bowings? There is really no right or wrong, but mainly what sounds musically better and is technically possible. cheers Georg
I can't because I quit cello and returned mine, but I can tell you he starts the piece on a down-bow which makes a lot of notes incorrect. However, my cello teacher loved his style. I think it sounds quite good as well. I'm just saying teaching this piece with the wrong bowings may result in points taken off at NYSMMA.
What a honest answer - it looks like behind the rigid critic is a nice person. If you ever start cello again, don't do it for exams or competitions (often the judges never perform), play only the pieces you love, and as beautiful as you can (btw the bowings in the editions are often not good, are just one of possibilities and are printed because they knew an editor).
The way this guy's dressed I feel like I'm in the rennaissance period listening to the #1 pop classic of the time.
I love this piece and it is really helping me for a solo. I play cello in 7th grade and I love the phrasing when you play!💖
Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever play the cello as beautifully as you do Georg!🥲❤️
I love this piece! Though I stopped playing a long time ago, when the mood strikes, I bring out my cello and this is always one of the pieces I play.
This is absolutely lovely. I play bassoon. Two flutes and I went out and played this as a trio. It was amazing

The way you slide up to that A is so nice! Very well done sir!
My orchestra director picked this song for me to play for solo and ensemble :D
cant wait to play it!

amazing work!!! this helped me a lot when I was learning it...well done!
We are playing this and your phrasing and tempi were very helpful to hear! Thanks for sharing.
Currently learning this piece. Great job.
Love the improvisations you put in the song! I took some of the techniques you included in and used them to my avail.
I don't know about skills or anything that it suggests. All l know is your piece cheer me up.

Apart from that i liked it alot
Excellent!
Beautiful

Beautiful.
Im going to play this for an NMEA solo. I am studying the 2nd and fourth position string builder and it helps alot with the shifting on this song.
So how’d it go
@@avancti1739 I can’t believe it, I was just thinking of this piece the other day and how it actually unlocked my confidence in performance for me… I was 18 then now I’m 30 teaching k-12 orchestra and private instruction mainly on violin and piano.

@@ShipDeckSurvivor that’s amazing, a shame you got disqualified, but still very wholesome story from a reply I never thought I’d get back
Bravo !
Wonderful.
This is really good I loved the performance though I know nothing about the cello (and very little about the piano)
I'm currently working on this for flute, and wanted to hear a skilled performance of it. Very enjoyable and nicely done. Whatever mistake was there, you recovered from so smoothly, that even knowing where it was in the recording, I didn't catch it.
I like the slight ritard and portamento notes!
great job on this piece.
@georgcello thank you so much
Pure and innocent playing.
oh ich weiss noch wo ich diesen song in 2 wochen alleine lehren musste und mein vater mich ohne zu wissen vor eine band gestellt hat und ich musste vorpielen... mein gott ;) tolle version ^^ 5*
I love it.

Woody Herman ‘Golden Wedding’ did he use the main melody of this piece..? 🤔
did you notice that the video and audio wasnt the same??
You can get it from most music stores. It is called Solos for the cello player by Otto Deri. Get the book with the piano accompliment in it, it really helps when you have to play the pieces. It also has Debussy 'Romance' in it and many more lovely picece which are a joy to play :)

@JrockerLOVER6932
The bowing seems to be late compared to the audio. Maybe it is just how it was posted here?
Lookie at they way he sits wit his cello and the way he holds his bow :] Its kinda cool.
I'm doing this arranged for Double Bass. I like it a lot better then on cello. I find the thicker timbre suits the peice better.
Hi I use this clip to practice on my organ this music and it teaches me how to imporve the performance.
I play together with you, you do the "you tube" and I play my organ
amazing
@youngstunna1415

I remember playing this piece at a wedding when I was 8 with the saxophone, wonder what was their reaction
@georgcello Even if it is easy its really pretty! I love playing this piece, and i would love to see Rostropovich mess up! Stuff like that builds self-esteem.

I'm playing this for 7 th grade OMEA solo:# I'm scared about it lol

lol man your english is fine, i didnt notice anything wrong.
..anyone else notice him sniff everytime he paused?
but this piece wuz originaly for cello

Played sensitively...
you desafination
XDDD
Bowing is not right does not match up to notes in any way and does not help him
Rebecca Maret so? players can modify it to add more dynamic sound to the slurs
hahah i play this peice burning fast compared to this guy!!!
No inspiration at all!
You did terrble 1 year old!
Your bowings are all wrong
