  • Pierre Cochereau plays the Adagio from Louis Vierne's Third Symphony for Organ. Recorded on the organ of Boston Symphony Hall, as Volume XII of Aeolian Skinner's "The King of Instruments" series. From the liner notes:
"It might be interesting to note that no repeat performances were taken and no editing of the tapes was necessary-this is it, exactly as Mr. Cochereau created in that afternoon!"

Thanks, as always, for posting all these historic recordings. They do bring back a flood of memories.

This is actually at Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris, from the 1974 recording.

It is not. I am familiar with that recording, and this isn't it.

Love this recording. I am happy that the organ sounds even better know after the rebuild/renovation several years ago. Sadly, it seems this great concert hall organ gets very little love and attention and usage as Boston Symphony Hall is a very busy place and not much call for the organ.
