@@smileplz237 The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the jig/clamping system he built. I’ve never seen somebody induce concave (Not to mention concave on both sides in conjunction with kick tails at the front and back!) into their glue-up using only a crude form that doesn’t actually have a *form* to it (LOL) simply relying on strips along the sides to press up while the press applies downward pressure radiating to the edges from the center during gluing seems like it would result in an incredibly poorly made skateboard but that does not appear to be the case???
Following up on a five-year-old comment of yours regarding the gluing/clamping technique for producing a DIY longboard… How is the durability? I would really really really appreciate if if you would reply back because… Not to offend the content creator here but I’m honestly amazed that this type of clamping system works at all and if it does then I’m going to start doing it myself LOL
This was the most helpful video i could find for this. I made a longboard of my own earlier this year, it was the first one ive made so i had no clue what i was doing. In the end, my trucks werent straight, one sheet delaminated, and my griptape was frayed around the edges. I plan to make another this summer and im confident that this video will help me perfect my cruiser
This is a really well put together build tutorial. I learned a lot and will be using the techniques you demonstrated. What an amazing finished product. Top job and thank you.
Wow, nice vid man. Thanks for breaking down each step. I've made a few boards just as a hobby but haven't been able to get enough concave. I'm gonna try the press you showed on my next project. Thanks man, keep it up.
:) Thanks a ton for noticing and replying my comment, I'll waiting for your new uploads, but let me watch all other your uploads which I didn't watch yet.. Peace..
When I made my longboard, I didn't have a belt sander. I had to sand my board down with a handheld sander. I didn't use a dremel, but I did use a router, which definitely gave the board and the edges a more defined shape. My longboard creation was so amateur compared to this video. lol
For the press- how tall were the concave stretchers in the middle of the board (it looks like 1/2" and how tall were the ends for the kick tails (that looks like 1-1/2")?
Hey bro please... Can you do detailed version for a normal skateboard.(about the press),can I use any wood, i don't have Birch...love your videos. Please do some more:)
+Supertramp K I might be able to make a normal skateboard eventually but i'm fairly busy at the moment. And you could use other wood, just make sure it is in thin enough sheets to bend into shape. Thanks for the feedback man! I'll make more videos as I make more boards!
I would love a little clarification on a couple of things, please. The "long skinny strips of wood" 1:05 and "kicktail scraps". Do you remember how thick those are? "Scraps" look 3/4". Maybe the "strips" are 1/2 inch? I have built a board before and because I thought, after unclamping there would be more, spring back, than there was, my board ended up more like a bowl. lol. I don't need to do that again. :) Also, Where do you buy your 1/8" Baltic birch plywood? I am having trouble finding a supplier. Thanks in advance! Great video...Straight to the point tutorial. :)
+Monsieur Loyal Hmm i'm not sure exactly how think the strips were, you can cut some and then try pressing it without glue to see the shape. I got my baltic birch at a wood supply shop. Try searching online for wood supply or wood crafting shops in your area and see what comes up. Good luck!
Thanks mate! Very good explained video! I'm not a skater but this looks like a very cool project :) Is 80 grit sandpaper an alternative for grit tape??
How did you set up the blocks to not only get a rocker camber, but actual concave into it, know what I mean? Your nose and tail are shaped like an actual skateboard deck when it comes to the deck scooping down and then up into the nose, how did you achieve the down bend before the up into the nose itself??
you sound so much more comfortable in this vid!. I just saw your mini cruiser tutorial lol. I also commented on that video a reply would be appreciated
+dunkinvideos Thanks! I think the quality is much better in this video. And I don't make and sell boards right now. I'd say try to make one, there's nothing better than building a board yourself!
Thus is awesome I love it..How much is that beautiful longboard? Did you having for sale? Hope you answer my questions I appreciate it. Thanks for your time and also sharing...
My grandfather was a wood shop teacher so he likes to get me woodworking tools and equipment, my dad works out of there and has various tools and I myself but various tools, so all together we have a decent amount
I've used higher end "normal plywood" from home improvement stores with SOME success. They'll work but won't be as strong, or will likely need to be thicker and thus heavier. It's worth the experiment if you cant get birch!
very good information, just one question. if you were to put the grain of each layer in the same direction would it have more flex? also, if you or anyone else knows, does using wood glue opposed to resin provide rigidity or flex?
If you run the grain all lengthwise it should have less flex and if you run it the other way it should have more flex with more torsional rigidity. And I'm not sure with glue vs resin, but I would assume resin is harder and would make the board more rigid.
Well done young man! I really liked the outcome after polishing the bottom!!! So just a buffing compound on polyurethane finish? To clarify please. Thanks! :-)
When you clear coated your board, there was a cruiser in the background; i was wondering what kind of wheels you had on her? Amazing video, a hell of a lot better than some stuff are out there. XD
I can't remember the exact amount, but if you have access to wood shop tools it'll end up being significantly cheaper, it just takes a lot of time. Good luck!
Great video , I was wondering why are you glueing multiple layers of Baltic birch, isn't in better if you just get the one thick piece of wood instead of glueing several pieces together? I'm curious to know the reason why ?
Hey look! Somebody who actually puts a concave into their board and knows what they're doing!
:) I'm sayin...
The only thing he didn't do that didn't make sense was that he built his own concave contraption when he could have used clamps
@@smileplz237 The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the jig/clamping system he built. I have to say, this is one of the nicest long boards I have seen regarding the fit and finish of the product... Nicely done Sir....
+John Johnston thank you!
Incredible workmanship
Thank you!
I love your videos. I have made a few boards using your technique and they turned out way better than expected! Thanks for sharing.
I can send you some pictures if you want to see- just shoot me your email.

Props to dad for encouraging his kid to top level woodworking with something he likes. No college necessary for this kid. He will do just fine.
Just graduated with an Engineering degree, I like to do a bit of both! :)
@@cash_reviews keep it up!
Thanks, now I know how to make my very own longboard.
Put the nuts on the rod prior to cutting, remove nut after to allow for easy threading:) Cool vid!
this is the best longboard diy tutoriales I have ever seen
Very nice! Thanks a lot.
Regards from Brazil.
+Adestrador Online thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Great wood working video.
You could be the Norm Abram (New Yankee Workshop) of the skateboard world! Great job with making a detailed and informative video. Thanks
Pretty awesome for a homemade board👍
INCREDIBLE WORK.....GREAT JOB !!!!!!
Excellent tutorial. Love the deck press idea.
Thanks!
what a lot of pro tools do you have mate. It is almost not an DIY. But very well done. Great
Yeah I have some fancy stuff but it certainly can be done with just the basics, thanks!
You're very knowledgeable young man. I learned a lot from you in my older age
this is a lot less cringey than the cruiser one lmao still great info in the vid also i like your clamping system ill have to try it out
Very very excellent job and video bro, compliment and super like by Warmachine bodybuilding of garage Gym italy 🇮🇹

Great video. Will definitely give this method a try.
Awesome video, and checked out your band in Spotify because of the plug. Congrats on the new album!
You’re the man, thank you!
Nice old-school drill press there. Take care of it and you can pass it to your kids someday.
Damn, so slick bro
nice build ! i liked the end result alot!!
amazing job
Thanks!
You, my man, are a fucking legend. Thank you so damn much, I owe you one

great job and super informative!
this is great !! do you have board template like this one ?? it would be very helpful to me. Thanks
good tutorial #DIY longboard

I wish i can purchase all these tools
That's some thicc grass
Thiccest grass around!
Would be sick to do a hand painted graphic, although would be tedious
Sure would, I’m not too talented with paint or drawing so I’d have to pass that off to someone else
hey. nice work. but can you put the measures of the press in millimeters here please ?
im thinking about doing this but what i would like to know is how durable the board is (like do the layers of wood come apart) GREAT VIDEO!!!
I've made many boards and only one snapped, and it was because I used low quality plywood. None of my boards have delaminated!
I'm impressed with all the tooling you have in your garage! did you get it or it is your dad's? Congratulations!
Some of it is mine and some is my dads, having the right tools for the right job is a big help on projects like this!
Thanks mate! Very good explained video! I'm not a skater but this looks like a very cool project :) Is 80 grit sandpaper an alternative for grit tape??
One thing to add: Cut WITH the grain
How did you set up the blocks to not only get a rocker camber, but actual concave into it, know what I mean? +CashedOutBoards I couldn't agree anymore! sadly i don't have access to the needed tools
i deff. much rather pay someone who made it by hand then some plastic injection mold
Where can i find a templete for a longboard like this cuz i love it
Thus is awesome I love it..How much is that beautiful longboard? Did you having for sale? Hope you answer my questions I appreciate it. Thanks for your time and also sharing...
You're pro.
How many layers of plywood ? just 2? It seemed more
Do I want the more flexible side of wood facing up or down?
Im just so jealous. How come you have a lot of tools and machines?
You have shop?
My grandfather was a wood shop teacher so he likes to get me woodworking tools and equipment, my dad works out of there and has various tools and I myself but various tools, so all together we have a decent amount
hey, just wondering if u could tell me more a bout the flexible side of the plywood...
Since wood has directional grain it will bend easier in one direction than in the other
in which direction do you place the plywood, you mentioned that there is a direction the wood is more difficult to flex....
+Diego Lizana de Arribas I like to stagger them, so have grains facing different directions for strength in all directions
Hi there, is there any other good wood alternatives to baltic birch, could I use normal plywood? Thanks for the great tutorials.
I've used higher end "normal plywood" from home improvement stores with SOME success. They'll work but won't be as strong, or will likely need to be thicker and thus heavier. It's worth the experiment if you cant get birch!
What you didn't put trucks on it & take it for a ride?
Hey man I used your advice but wood glue didn't work for me the 3rd try I used fiberglass resin and it worked very well has a lot of bounce
+J Butterlord you have a good taste in music
Omg, is that cruiser put there as an easter egg because I'm very sure I've been watching that being made a couple of minutes earlier....
+MC_Mac_MC it kinda is! I like to throw in other projects in all of my videos.
CashedOutBoards Just rewatched the cruiser and I noticed that there was a board something like this in the background too :P
Do you find that pva glue creeps over time?
Any way to make this without power tools?
very good information, just one question. if you were to put the grain of each layer in the same direction would it have more flex? also, if you or anyone else knows, does using wood glue opposed to resin provide rigidity or flex?
If you run the grain all lengthwise it should have less flex and if you run it the other way it should have more flex with more torsional rigidity. And I'm not sure with glue vs resin, but I would assume resin is harder and would make the board more rigid.
This can be done.... atleast i thing.... ill try
was it a song by chronic rythim at the end scene? if yes, it sounds great to me :D
How long and wide are the concave and kick tails pieces
If I was to have the flexible side down and I want some play. How many layers should I have so it’s not to flexible or stiff
It depends on your weight, if you use birch, I’m 135lbs and use 3-4 layers. 3 for shorter boards, 4 for stiffer ones or longer ones
Hi im currently making a board as a school project, was just wondering how thick your board was and why you choose to use 4 laminates, cheers, James.
The wood i use it doesn't like to bend. My friend and I we screw our boards down to a piece of wood. Where do u get your wood? Love your videos!
+Action Films I got my wood from a local woodworking shop / lumbar yard
what do you estimate to be the total cost of making this board?
Well done young man! I really liked the outcome after polishing the bottom!!! So just a buffing compound on polyurethane finish? To clarify please. Thanks! :-)
When you clear coated your board, there was a cruiser in the background; i was wondering what kind of wheels you had on her? Amazing video, a hell of a lot better than some stuff are out there. XD
+Hinkiepunk Those are stereo cruiser wheels and trucks, and thanks man!
I've watched this video about 10 times and I still can't tell if you cross cut or ripped the wood
I did some layers both ways for strength in both directions
Drummers!!!!!!
How much did that board cost to make? Is making a board usually cheaper or more expensive than buying a board of the same quality?
I can't remember the exact amount, but if you have access to wood shop tools it'll end up being significantly cheaper, it just takes a lot of time. Good luck!
Great video , I was wondering why are you glueing multiple layers of Baltic birch, isn't in better if you just get the one thick piece of wood instead of glueing several pieces together? I'm curious to know the reason why ?
+Adam Keely Using multiple layers allows you to press the board into its shape and also creates strength in multiple directions.
