I don't know about anyone else, but I enjoyed the moments when you were quiet, while making your coffee, and listening to the thunder and rain.
I love your videos, positive attitude, laugh, and ability to adjust to any circumstances and make the best of any situation. I could listen to the rain and thunder all day. Strength and honor. You are the man! Lunch sounds good.
Oh yeeahhh
It's raining on the desert today. I'm in my livingroom, watching your video, drinking hot tea and enjoying the day.🤩
👸🤠
There's nothing wrong with sitting under a tarp in the middle of the woods. Your plans changed. At least you had a tarp. Great video
Hi Luke and Susie, really enjoy your camping video’s, I am from
NC myself, but currently reside in Texas. Hope your son s doing well in college, and your daughter is doing well in the
Navy. We thank her for her service to our country. May God bless you and your family Luke.
Let's face it Luke, you love getting "stuck" under tarps in big storms.😆
Can’t blame him. It’s good for clicks. But I love his videos regardless.
@@PixelBlitzXP Yea, me too.
I have to admit he came up with some great idea's like in the summertime a tarp and just a tent inner with mesh. Excellent airflow and you can adjust the tarp to the conditions. Never thought of that but it's a smart idea for sure.
Can't blame him few things more relaxing than the sound of rain on a tarp out in the wild's. But you are correct, Luke prefers the bad weather for some reason.
I can think of several worse ways to spend an afternoon.
Dark, foggy, and heavy rain. A nice small fire under a tarp. Hot coffee. Awesomeness. 😊
Luke, I can’t tell you how much I love watching you camp. I miss it so much but since I’ve been ill I do my camping through your videos. Thank you.
I love rain & thunderstorms! I get my best sleep at those times. I found myself nodding off listening to the rain hitting your tarp. Thank you for always sharing your journey & your honesty. Stay safe & see ya next time😊
Hello! I am a retired brazilian professor lady living in America now. I teach brazilian portuguese language and culture for Special Forces. Love your videos. I have just prepared my own version of your chicken supreme. Thanks for sharing. I love forests and outdoors. We have huge thunder storms in Brazil. I really mean it: HUGE!!! Thank you Sir! Thank you! Every night you make me dream and travel with your excursions. Scary forests though! LOL...
Luke, I just love your videos of you out in storms, with a big tarp over you and your cooking, while the storm is going on and you talk . I just love these videos. I to love camping out in the rain and storms. Keep up the good work...Vernon
Speaking of hunkering down…. I hope Steve Wallis is doing alright 😢
God bless Steve
😢😞🙏🏼
Cannot imagine his pain! I dear friend of mine was killed on his HD TRI GLIDE yesterday while out doing good deeds with his Christian Group …. We are never promised tomorrow! Let’s enjoy today! Love enjoying my days with Luke and Susie!
PRAYERS FOR STEVE!!!
Classy move bring him up , how easily we forget about others pain . I hope he is doing well.
I bet I'm not the only one who wouldn't mind you leaving in about 5-30 minutes of that view from under the tent just looking out at and listening to that rain ;)
I’m old ! In my experience you make your fire backwards. I have always put my firestarter down first and built my kindling up next and then the larger wood. Your way works good for you. “Different strokes” ! Love you and Susie and your adventures.😊
The last time that I went camping for 4 x nights. It rained like that for 3 days non stop. As I was deep in the bush, and only with a 2-wheel drive car, so I had to bail. Thankfully I was in a hammock, so I didn't mind the rain. Love it Luke.
Some of the best content on camping anywhere! It's like we are right there with you watching the rain.
I love the rain the cold winter it give me peace please take good care of yourself
I just realized that part of what makes these videos so awesome and atmospheric is how well your choice of color grading really enhances the misty hazy green splendor of those woods. Great work!
Quite the chef in this one Luke and very enjoyable. It looked yummy. A tarp, a rainstorm and a wood stove. Bliss.
Luke, I love it when you give both your viewers and the thunder a cheers with your coffee. The chicken looks great. I'll try it soon. I have always liked using a wood fired stove. I still have and use my ZipZtove that I have had ever since I hiked the A.T. back in the 90's 🙂
I just love the sound of rain, thunder, lighting. When I was about 5/6 yrs old I used to get up from sleep crack my bedroom window and listen to the storms,,,,,still love it. I live in Jacksonville Florida and when storms hit I go out onto my huge balcony with a cup of coffee. Love it!!
You're a lot luckier than I am when it comes to the weather. If it were me, i''d be all smiles and good times listening to the rain and thunder. And then the rain would subside to quarter sized hail, andt he final blow would be a microburst that picks up the entire campsite, and sends it scattered and tattered the length of a couple football fields long.
Luke is a storm magnet.
I get happy when I find a video you have out. That is what I watch before I go to sleep, it really claims me an I have a very peaceful sleep. So stay safe an happy. God bless you and your family. See you on your next adventure ✨️ 😀
Dude, sometimes the trips that turned out like this one can be the best therapy! Mother nature has other plans for you. A day in the rain under a tarp is magical to me!
Love the stormy weather vids, keep up the hard work!!
I like your comment “ Lord don’t let it burn my mouth “ ,Also, gonna try your recipe !
That might be the most mind boggling story you have ever told..I almost spit my drink all over myself from laughter..was NOT expecting the punchline..another great fact of the outdoors vid..love this channel!
That forest is absolutely beautiful.
You made a small version of a casserole I make for my family. When it rains like this when we’re camping I love it! We would huddle up under the screen house and tarp and play games and have a great time. My four kids are most of the way grown and have moved on to new adventures, I still hold these memories in my heart. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect lunch if you ask me!! Little rain made it more relaxing too!!
Luke, you make us hungry every time you cook!!
I've been making this for over 37 years now.
Luv it.
Hi Luke , We all know you love a Tarp in the Rain , lol, Enjoy your Weekend my Friend , Strength , Honour and Respect from England .🙂👍
Been watching your outings for a couple of years now and really enjoy them. So good to hear you give our Good Lord a mention. Stay safe.
The sound of the rain on the tarp is so relaxing. A bit of concern about lightning striking in the trees around you though. We have woods around our house and have lost several trees due to lightning.
There is nothing you can do about lightning strikes. The tallest,, or the best grounded is the one at risk. If on a golf course,, few trees but some tall,,, bad choice to shelter under one. Golf course and YOU are the only one with a bag of metal clubs,, not good.. on a sailboat shelter under the boom. In a forest,, all trees the same height,, no different risk than sitting at home. I agree,, sitting under the tarp in the rain,, hot coffee or soup,, a book to read,,, Wonderful. Don't stretch your tarp on the biggest tree,,,, go out,, enjoy
Thank you so much Luke, I appreciated this video so much, as I am fighting covid and this helped me to get some much needed rest, I always enjoy the sound of rain and storms!! Strength & Honor my friend 👍
My perfect kind of day. So long as you're not wet and cold then sitting listening to the rain fall is just perfect.
Thanks, another nice forest adventure. I always enjoyed being in the forest during a rain storm, so peaceful.
"Forced to hunker down,," No. Those rain days are some of the BEST. Set your tarp. Make sure you have food, chair, essentials,, and books. Under a tarp.. hot coffee,, camp food, time to read,, and rain pattering down around,,,, Heaven. Absolute heaven.
it makes me want to get a tarp go somewhere set it up and just relax listening to the rain lol
@@diamonddiva3204 Just ta make you jealous,,, on the road ,, I bagged a turned in permit for the Green River, Desolation/Gray Canyons Canoe, 100 miles of middling rapids (mostly IIs and IIIs) 9 days of heaven. Permit launch date is the 14th.
Under a tarp in the rain is my favorite video...the point of hiking, to me, is to get to a nice place to camp. Thanks, Luke! All the best to you and the family...
Looks like a perfect day to me!! I would have to get my frog togs on, and walk around checking stuff out, I love walking through the woods in the rain!!
That's ok, just relax and have your coffee, you can show us the paths another day
I came for the tarp, storm and outdoors. I stayed for that super creamy chicken casserole lunch on a wood stove. Awesome!
I enjoyed this so much! Nothing like a little crackling fire, rain hitting a tarp, and some rolling thunder. ♡
Rain like that makes me want to go to sleep makes me feel happy. I'm a rain lover
I love how prepared you are with your meals, Luke. Its so great.
I just found your videos and am impressed. I first ran away to live in the woods when I was 7 with an old oily tarp a K-bar and a pot from my mom's kitchen and 4 cans of Beans.. I've been running ever since in every type of weather including 3 feet of snow. . Lols. I am now 70+ and a Former Sgt in the USMC. Over 30,000+ Backpacking and Hiking Miles. I first came across you with the TCOP review which convinced me to buy one and have been very happy about it. Love Tarps. Hiked parts of Adirondacks the PCT, Pinhoti, Eastern parts of the high Sierras and many years cross country desert travel in the Mojave and Anza Borrego due to living in San Diego for 31 years until I finally escaped an live in a Free State now for the past 12 years. Keep up the good work. I learn something from each of your Videos.... Be Safe.
Watching TOGR make that stove wood fire reminded me, has anyone out there ever read the short story by Jack London; "To Build A Fire:? Circa 1902. Great post here, as usual from TOGR. And I have to say, as a rain-loving hiker, no other outdoors website posts more rain-themed videos than TOGR. Thanks much!
You made me hungry and the sound of rain and thunder was awesome.
Lude your the only man or person that loves when it rains and i enjoy watching all your videos
For a man whose channels its not about cooking, you did it well buddy. Congrats, great video.
I enjoyed sitting under the tarp with you. Very peaceful time.
Thx for the chicken recipe, love the recipes and love truck camping videos best when you cook up gourmet meals and have Susie with you. Love also to Lucas & Maddie 💜💜💜
I like this guy’s attitude, always smiling!
One of my favorites. Love the rain and the storm energy. We say "hey" from the mountains of TN. 👋
Just camping outside looks relaxing especially the rain
May I say the best adventures never go according to plan that's what makes it an adventure... Blessings to you from the mountains of Southern Oregon
Hey Luke. My name is Melissa. I a. From. Cereal Va. I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now, even the older ones, and I am very impressed. I really like the fact that you are very descriptive when you are discussing your locations as well as the kind of camping gear you are using. I find your videos fun. Interesting, and informative. GREAT JOB!
This is the first time that he actually cooked something I’ve never seen him cook just usually rehydrating
The wonderful sounds of the rain and the beauty of the fog was amazing. And even though the house was gone, I'm glad they left the tree. That food looked amazing. I copied the recipe and will give it a try. Thanks for sharing your time
when we went camping as kids (60 years ago) my mom made something we called Chicken Mess - a jar of cooked chicken (yes, it came in a jar), a can of cream of chicken soup, a can of peas, and egg noodles, all cooked together in a skillet.
Being from Indiana my majority XP is in the Smokies, when camping there every single day around 11:00am to 1:00PM or so you could sit back and watch the clouds descend down from the mountain tops. Then you would almost invariably dump some rain generally a light rain and then nothing but they could pick up a bit. I do mean that happened every single day by my recollection of most trips.
nice transition at the end ♥ love the thunder and rain sounds, almost felt asleep !
Luke…lover of any kind of precipitation!! Look at that smile! Cheers!
Great video Luke, really enjoyed this one. The thunder and the sound of the rain hitting the tarp, brilliant. That was some storm. Oh and finally bought some merch from your store. Looking forward to it landing in the UK. Take care and all the best.
Chicken Supreme... first of those casserole meals that actually looks good to me. I'm going to try it. Great video, regardless of the change in the weather. Thanks for sharing and happy camping!!
Every episode dosent have to have hiking in it for me. Just resting. Relaxing sometimes is enough
Love seeing you use the wooden stove. Man and fire in rain. Awesome
Back when I could trek thru the woods here in Eastern NC, I always enjoyed when it rained. I would get a bit concerned with the amount of lightning many of the storms produced, but luckily I was never zapped. Several years ago while working with the Army on Camp Mackall, two of our troops awaiting an opening in training and a senior cadre member were nailed by lightning. One of the the students was leaning against a dead pine tree when it was struck. The other student and the cadre got popped by the lightning as it radiated out from the tree thru the ferns. Everything was wet so the conductivity was high. No one was killed but it caused some medical problems. There is no better sound than that of the rain hitting a tarp. It is even a better situation, when like you are doing in the video, being up underneath it out of the down pour, you can make a fire, enjoy a cup of coffee or two and just relax. It was nice carrying ones house in a rucksack.
That same chicken dish was a staple in our house when I was growing up. I had completely forgotten about it until now. Thank you for reminding me, can't wait to make it again.
Absolutely love the song at the end of the video. Sorry you didn’t get to have the adventure you wanted but I am willing to wait.
hey there luke, thanks for those videos i absolutely love them! its a great inspiration for me to try and get more in touch with nature again and appreciate the simple things more! keep up the great work, lovely greetings from germany
An old military axom is "NO PLAN EVER SURVIVES CONTACT". Being highly adaptable is a valuable asset.
One thing about the storms, Luke. You have a great proving ground to test out camping gear! I'll give you that! I lived in the rain for over 60+ years and finally decided to move to a bit drier climate East of the Cascades in Washington State. Being a Pacific Northwet native, I grew up with moss on me if I didn't keep moving. Looks like you have to deal with the same and hot humidity as well. I'm content to watch your videos in this weather than live it myself. Thanks for sharing these adventures with all of us! 😉😆
I keep cotton balls covered in Vaseline in zip lock bags or in old prescription bottles for fire starters and another type is the old lint from the dryer to use too. I've used the lint to get my fireplace started many times.
Hi Luke I knew I would love this one there is sonething fantastic about being able to manage the situation in heavy rain and stay protected that I just love a tarp is a fantastic bit of kit to never be without .that forest is fantastic
This guy is awesome. I haven’t camped since Boy Scouts, but the girl and I will watch his hour long videos just to enjoy the sound of the rain, laugh with him chuckling to himself, and wonder if the freeze dried food is actually as good as he says. It’s rad, keep it up my dude.
I got to be honest I have rewatched this video 3 times cause that rain noise puts me to sleep lol. Love your vids. Keep them coming
Now that is the way to cook. Stick stove . Military style mess kit. And frankly a better mess kit than say USA. Bake fry or stew. Light wait . No fuel. Good vid.
I love those stoves...especially the backpacking light ones. Mine is a plasma cut custom rocket king stove, made of solid steel. It's a heavy sucker, but it will outlive me and the next 3 owners. And quit playing Luke, we all know you only truly have fun when things don't go according to plan🤣
I enjoyed the cooked meal. Nice to see that over a freeze dried meal. Awesome video
So happy to see you cooking meals with fresh ingredients! Packaged freeze-dried MRE’s are something I swore off after many months in the field while in the Army.
Love the sound of rain
As I'm sitting here watching you in a storm I've got thunder , lightning and rain by me also. Really brings the storm to life. 👍
Idk how you eat these meals and not have to go to the bathroom every half hour. I envy you. Love the videos!
What cool scenes, with you underneath the tarp, getting darker outside, rain coming down strong, storm sounds, and the beauty of the dense forest all around. I can see why you love these trips so much. Nothing to apologize about this trip, it was enjoyable to watch and of course, listen to what you had to say!
Luke👍👍 You ever get tired of just hanging out under a tarp in rain storms?, you've certainly done it plenty lately😊 Personally, if I've got dry wood, I'm good and I always build a small fire under the tarp in a hobo style stove. Love rain in the mountains/forest, smells so good and makes it quieter by far. The saving grace for this episode was the chicken dinner cooked over the hobo stove under the tarp, have done this dozens of times myself, perfect. Mother Nature has her ways of "raining" on your parade, wouldn't have it any other way though. Thanks for the trip, filming, chat and bringing us along, much enjoyed. See ya next time.
Love your videos, we are in the Mountains of Northern New Mexico presently. We have a nice 42 ft fifth wheel but I bring a tent and air mattress where I sleep most nights. Telling you this because I so love the sound of rain hitting the tent and rumble of Thunder. Stay safe my friend.
Those woods seem like an amazing place to hike and camp, especially with all the rain! Very Hygge!
Hi from the Philippines I really love watching your videos ♥️ I felt so relax hearing the real sounds of the rain and thunderstorm ⛈️.
The first decent meal I've seen prepared on you tube!
Back to basics. Nothing wrong with that 👌🏻
Love the rainy camping. The sound on the tarp soothes me. Great upload
Your teachings are like that of the great Jesus the Christ. Great blessings to you and your dog. Great companion to be caught in the rain with.
Thankyou, thankyou. For not putting all the highlights in the first 30s. I love storms, and this one was daaaark!
Awesome episode Luke! That lunch looks delicious, gonna try it out!
Cheers Buddy ! , love it !
Just came across this episode. Made the chicken dish but added mushrooms. YUM!
Dude; you rule! Truly. You're videos are always amazing. I am thankful you give advice on gear and ways of the outdoor life. And thanks for the recipe in this video. I may have found something for my dad to try.
Nice big rain/thunder storm sure came down, I love the sound of the rain. and agree always good to be prepared as one never can tell what can happen in any season in my case . Your meal looked superb Yum! going to have to try that. thanks for the recipe. Thanks for bringing us along
Yes, in southwestern North Carolina there is an area that is the rainiest spot in the contiguous 48 states East of the Cascade Range. The Great Smokey Mountains and Black Mountains along the N. C. -Tenn. border form the highest portion of the Appalachians, with many peaks over 6,000 feet in elevation. They are in Luke's "backyard", so to speak. So the prevailing winds that sweep across the plains, Missouri, Arkansas, the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky, drop a lot of their moisture when they have to rise up and over that barrier. Right onto Luke's head😅.
