If your bending a 10 or 20 foot stick of tubing and it has a lot of bends in it, it is a good idea to take a piece of tie wire and make a model that you can bend with your fingers. That will make sure you put the tubing in the bender the right way instead of bend come out upside down. We had a guy on our crew that could take out his tape measure and look up into the structure 15 or 20 feet away from where the tubing would be going, somehow get his measurements from that distance and then bend a piece of tubing haul it up into the structure to install it and it would fit like a glove. When your on a big construction site there are a lot of people that are real artists when it comes to bending tubing but I never saw anyone that could get their measurements from a distance like that.
I go to a site, it’s a large old Manor House and in there is a one pipe system in which the bulk of the pipework is 2” iron. The bends in there are incredible, hydraulically pulled to span curved bay windows, offsets and 90’s all in one piece. I’m known for my neatness/accuracy when bending copper, I used to use oxy/acetylene to manufacture loops/sets/bends on site, I learnt how to pull bends etc on an hydraulic bender during my apprenticeship but this work is something special and has probably been there 50 years. Every time I go there I just stare at them because I know just how special the guys were who did that work 👏👏👏 The site is empty now, I still do an annual boiler cert for the site so I may take a video next time to preserve it just in case the site gets demolished 😳

In this video, the L indicates the 90 degree centerline mark. If you have a leg that needs to be 5" then a 90 degree bend. You could measure 5" from the end of tube, line your mark up with the L then bend 90 degrees. Thus not having to mark or calculate takeup.
The L mark refers to an offset which was measured from left to right on the tube. The R refers to measuring your offset from right to left, also known as a reverse bend.

Actually the trade terms are "gains" and "losses", pipe can't "grow" (however, you may wanna try viagra); if anything your final overall length will be less than your original. For sizes between 3/16" (4mm) to 1/2" (12mm) tubing, a good rule of thumb is approx 1/16" (1.5mm) "loss" per 15 degrees bent successively. I have a tube bender that bends 4 different size's and don't have to buy 4 different benders to do what 1 does. And bought it at Lowes. I use it to bend my copper for work.
Good for you. That has absolutely zero relevance to what this product does though. Copper is a very soft metal, while stainless steel is not. Apples and oranges.
Yea I know steel is not same as copper. The thing is both these benders and mine work off same principle and bend the pipe the same way . But if you want my comment to sound dumb no problem ,what ever. Was not saying tool is bad was just making a statement
Not trying to say it was dumb, you are just trying to say you bought a cheaper bender to do the same thing when you don’t know if it can bend stainless. It’s great info for plumbers, but not for what this product does and it sounded like you were talking down on these benders due to yours when you don’t even know the capability of yours to do the same thing.
Hi, Your local sales and service center will be able to answer your question. You can find their contact information here: products.swagelok.com/locator
There is a chart in the tube bender manual that tells you the subtractive adjustments needed for bends 30-90 degrees, anything below 30 is no adjustment needed. For example if doing a 45 degree offset each 45 bend will equal up to 90 degree total and say the pipe is 1/4 with 9/16 bend radius the total subtracted adjustment will be 5/16.
Where are these made (i.e. country of origin)? I looked all over your website, I even found the specifications on the tools, but I couldn't find the first specification I need to know before considering purchasing anything.
