I'm only 13 but saw an ad for the first game in an old magizine at a barber shop and thought,"damn, looks like a cool game" It hit me how old that magizine was when i saw for ps2 (i think)
The animation in this game is so good. Cartoony characters like these guys work so fucking well with the level of animation today's games have, holy crap this is good in that department. I hope it wins some award for its animation just by looking at it.
I’m gonna have to disagree with the complaint about the combat. I think it was pretty great. New enemies were constantly being introduced throughout the game, and each enemy had an interesting concept. Like how you have to use clairvoyance to figure out the source of a bad idea so that you can fix it. I also like how most of the enemies require you to use a specific ability in order to effectively counter them. Like how you have to slow down panic attacks, and set doubts on fire. And even with the enemies that don’t have a specific counter, there are still multiple different options for general combat. You can pull enemies toward you with mental connection, use psi blast, use physical combat, or a stylistic mix of both. You also have to think about how you’re gonna take down a whole group of enemies that have different counters, which makes you prioritize. I don’t think the combat is revolutionary or anything, but I also don’t think it warrants a complaint. I think it’s more than serviceable, ESPECIALLY considering it’s not even the focus at all.
I feel exactly the same. In general I can't compare this game with the original, they're just both fantastic games and the sequel a fantastic continuation of the first game. But I feel like combat is the one area that was truly improved. Everything you mentioned makes the fights more interesting instead of just punching and shooting everything.

A good artstyle will let a game look good (or acceptable) forever aswell as immediately let people recognize your game with just seeing a part of the UI, a character or level, whereas a bad artstyle usually looks ugly already just a few years after release when we moved on a few GPU generations. Artstyle is the reason Borderlands still looks good, Wind Waker looks great or big part of why Persona 5 became the big hit that its predecessors didn't manage.
i think people aren't talking about the style but the shadows, lighting, and texture quality. For me the shadows and lighting look pretty last gen and the textures are straight muddy. I think they should've gone with the rift apart approach

I love how it's revealed that the Curse never existed, but was a fear implanted in Raz and his dad, and their psychic abilities manifested the hand that would drag them down. In the post game, water literally no longer hurts you and actively tries to put you back on land. If you hit it 3 times to "drown" instead it'll do a trick with Raz and spawn you back on land without damaging you. It's really neat!

I played through it on my Series S. I was going to play it on PS5 but it was free on GamePass and there is no PS5 native version, just PS4 back compat. The art direction is superb and generally the technical rendering is good enough and fits the aesthetic, but some of the assets are a bit rough. I mostly noticed low poly counts on the rounded eyes which looked a bit rough, some textures seemed a bit low res and the fur rendering seemed pretty dated and didn’t really match the aesthetic. Image quality was a bit soft but I imagine that’s just because I played it on Series S. Overall I thought the game looked great though, so much style and creativity just like the original. One of the funniest and most imaginative games I have played in years.
The graphics look great to me I love how it sticks to the first psychonauts artistically but also improves on it graphically and they did that really well without making it look bad

After finishing it myself last night, I think my only complaint was Maligula's presence not really being felt throughout the brains. Aside from PSI King, I was expecting little snippets of each mind to feature some minor plot of an agent of hers advancing a threat of her return. Still the twists with Grulovia, Raz's family and Malik were well handled.

It makes me very sad that people seem to be review bombing this game on metacritic. I know am I biased as I love Tim Schafer's humor, but this game kept me playing until 4am last night. I haven't done that in years. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

Having not grown up with the original Psychonauts I still find this game to be very charming. Glad it turned out like this and not Ratchet and Clank 2k16.

Proud to say that I just finished 100% of psychonauts 2 took a little bit but it’s well worth it absolute chad of a game. I highly recommend it.

Psychonauts 2 was genuinely one of the best games I've played, I adore everything about it. Easily in my top 5
After finishing it myself last night, I think my only complaint was Maligula's presence not really being felt throughout the brains. Aside from PSI King, I was expecting little snippets of each mind to feature some minor plot of an agent of hers advancing a threat of her return. Still the twists with Grulovia, Raz's family and Malik were well handled.

17:40 i feel like 2 is actually harder. In 1 Raz was a powerhouse, especially in 100% playthrough and you just mowed through the enemies
Platforming in 1 was way harder IMO, but honestly I prefer 2’s combat because of unlimited ammo
Richard Horvitz is one of my favorite voice actors, he always plays the weird characters that end up being your favorite.
I love that they got Steven Horvitz to voice the main character. Idk anything about this game series, but I think his voice suits the character really well

@@beelzebub5850 yes but a gun can be possessed by anyone so long as the second amendment exists. therefore it's not an inherent trait that cannot be equalized.
If people had supernatural powers you can't really equalize that it's just a different playing field it's like bringing a handgun to a tank fight.

@@sumdud2129 See in my view I don't think that situation of not being in equal is dangerous to me if the person/group causing the inequality in the first place is responsible about it.
Let's say that someone lives in a neighbourhood and he owns a gun, the others living in said neighbourhood don't have a gun but they can get one maybe later in the future. But the current situation is that only one person has a gun which is an unequal situation.
So my question is do you think that person with a gun in the neighbourhood is dangerous and will be dangerous as long as the other people in the neighbourhood don't get a gun? The "gun" here can be replaced with a lot of things, a knife, a tank, a bomb, etc. Was only using a gun as an example.

It makes me very sad that people seem to be review bombing this game on metacritic. I know am I biased as I love Tim Schafer's humor, but this game kept me playing until 4am last night. I haven't done that in years. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

@@AngelicMissMarie Same thing happened to Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2019. For the first time since Probably Modern Warfare 2, a Call Of Duty game had a Green User Score, that got blasted all the way back down to a 3 because "Muh Politics!"
This is why I usually read the Zeroes for a User Score before determining if that average is accurate or not.
played two games in 2 weeks (100% it), started with original game obviously, it didnt aged a bit, second game feels like perfect sequel, with more content, more good writing, more same but good characters and more charm! 10/10
