LOCKED IN Makeup & Book girlies unite gather 'round! I keep hearing great things for Marie Lu's _Legend_ trilogy, I guess it's time to get my hands on it. I loved The Young Elites trilogy; well-written world building, superpowers and gemstones got me hooked.
Angie, hear me out lol. It would be so epic if for singe you did a 70’s theme eyeshadow palette. I’m a neutral girly but with the browns, yellows, pinks, burnt oranges and beautiful metallics.
I always say that the first books in TOG and ACOTAR are prequels. They are just giving you background information to the real story! I just wanted to say that I’ve been following your makeup channel for years and just realized you’re reviewing books over here and I’m so excited!
Omg also.. I used your orange singe blush to create a makeup look for an autumn court inspired outfit for a fantasy ball back in October and I was in love!! It’s so beautiful and lasted all night through me dancing and sweating my butt off. 😂
My two favourite things in one video! I want more GRWM makeup while speaking about books videos. Can I ask what shade of the ABH lip liner you used? Also I read Quicksilver and Metal slinger because of you and those are two of my fave read of the year!
If you haven’t read it yet and loved the Throne of Glass series, you should check out the Halfling Saga by Melissa Blair. Soooooo good! The fourth and final book of the series is coming out next month and I’m immediately moving it to the top of my TBR list!
I'm so excited, your keeping the book chat alive and adding makeup! Absolutely PERFECT 👌 Hoping your well, and having a great time with your friend being there and spending time with you. May your Christmas and New Year's be absolutely, wonderful, fantastic, and lovely!❤😊🎉p.s metal slinger, is making me wonder everything, I thought! I don't know what to think, 🤔 who did she ever truly love? LoL I hope I make sense without giving anything away... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BOOK!!
Harry Potter to me is like Avatar: The Last Airbender. Technically it’s for children, but it’s so good that adults can enjoy it just as much, if not more.
Angie, I so enjoyed your long book review video! I listened to Quicksilver and enjoyed it- though the constant angst and brooding eventually made me giggle. I am currently listening to The Cruel Prince and recommend if you haven’t tried it yet. Thank you for your work combining my favorite things- makeup and reading lol.
Visiting from the main channel 😊 don’t really care for books but it’s so interesting to hear you talk about another hobby. I love Emperor’s New Groove. That is one of my favorite Disney movies.
Try Robyn Peterman's midlife series for comfort! I've laughed actually out loud while reading. The humor is sarcastic and delightful! There are emotional parts as well, but she's my go to author when I need hope. Edit: I read on kindle, not sure if she's in print.
Angie!! I'm not sure if you have already read this but please read Beartown if you have not yet!! I have not been able to stop thinking about it since I read it a few weeks ago and I think you would LOVE it! The writing is so clever and masterful, with amazing heart-fluttering quotes, and there are so many wonderful, important, over-arching themes running through the book (plus, it's set in Sweden!). I haven't been as into literary fiction lately as I used to be, but this book truly is a masterpiece.
Lithaven books has a pre order right now for a very beautiful copy of the spark of the ever flame and glow of the ever flame. I ordered and can’t wait to receive, I’ve heard nothing but good things.
I’m reading Fear the Flames right now too started it last night. So far it’s so fun I’m 100 pages in. And love Quicksilver so much it deserves all the hype. Can’t wait for the second book next fall. And great picks I love Acotar and Throne of Glass of course, didn’t love Metal Slinger but I’m excited for the continuation.
Totally get where you're coming from on Elaine in ACOTAR, HOWEVER, hear me out. As a fellow quiet person, there is always so much more going on underneath the surface than we let on. We see things other people don't pick up on. I'm always interested in hearing that take. There are so many loud people in the world, and the world makes room for them because they are so. There also needs to be room for the characters in quiet contemplation.
I hope there's more to Elain than what we've seen so far. There are very small glimpses so far and I agree it shouldn't always be about the loud ones. We need better quiet/shy characters. I'm the extrovert in my close friend group full of introverts who aren't loud. But we're each our own characters and personalities. Writers need to do a better job.
To me Elaine isn’t boring because she’s quiet. She’s boring because Maas didn’t do a great job at giving us a glimpse of who she really is and what she’s going through.
Angie, you need to read the Realm of the Elderlings saga by Robin Hobb. Assassin's Apprentice is only the first trilogy!!! The whole saga is SO good, and the second trilogy is my favorite
I LOVED Across the Nightingale Floor. Oh my gosh I read it in like 9th grade and desperately need to finish the series. There was only 1 book when I read it (oh my that was 23 years ago…)
For me best first book in a series is Clan of the Cave Bear, yes I'm 40 and yes I realize how old this series is. But this book is why I love reading, did any other book live up to the first, no. Did she repeat herself ad nauseum in the remaining books yes. Should the last book have never been written, also yes. But I rooted for this book series for the bulk of my life and it was amazing.
I got a little sick of fantasy characters who are like 20, so a friend recommended a light fantasy series called Magical Midlife. It’s set in our world with the main character discovering that magic is real in her early 40s. It’s a light read and I love that the themes of accepting yourself, finding your own power, etc are relatable if you’re in your 30s+.
Angie, you need to read The Way of Kings series (Stormlight Archive)... it is the best of the best fantasy series. Sanderson writing is so good you wish the books were bigger
I’m pretty sure sjm started the throne of glass books when she was in high school so that’s why the first book was not written as well as the later books
I'm sorry but the cover of Quicksilver looks so bad. You are a very intelligent person and I value your opinion so it's going to the top of my TBR. This is a really exciting trend in publishing that authors can self publish and then be picked up by a traditional publisher with success. It gives me hope!
Emperor's New Groove is one of the best movies of all time. Have you read Good Omens? I've only read it twice but thinking about it give me hope for the world. I also highly recommend Brandon Sanderson's books if you haven't tried them. There's one section in Way of Kings I go back to when I need an epic level pick-me-up.
I got quicksilver immediately after seeing your short about it. I am still in the beginning, putting pieces of the world together. I look forward to diving more into it! Elaine is a snoozefest because she was the vapid shallow spoiled baby before they lost everything. And then she was so sheltered, even after she became fae. "Oh elaine is so fragile, we must keep her glass self on a shelf". So she hasn't gotten any sort of character development because everyone around her has always stunted her growth. I think she would need to go through something completely new and really difficult while being removed from her sisters so that she can actually grow and get to know herself. I would love to see her develop her powers and come into her own. And of course, choose lucien. We don't need 3 bat boys with 3 sisters, that's so predictable and boring. Plus az and gwen have more in common. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TEDtalk haha.
If you want to read some truly underrated fantasy/sci-fi that centers on female characters, read The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge. It has one of the most unique and inventive settings I’ve ever seen, I can’t get too into it without spoiling major plot points but it blends mysticism with harder sci-fi in a way that I don’t think I’ve seen any other author do. Most of the important characters are women, and they feel like real people having experiences that many women go through, instead of stock fantasy characters
I just gasped when you said you would erase Quicksilver because I thought you would say you didn’t like it. I accept your reasoning for picking it though. It get to read it for the first time again would be magical!
Harry Potter is definitely my happy place! I only got into Harry Potter as an adult, but it's been the biggest source of joy and comfort ever since. I re-listen to the Jim Dale version of the audiobooks every year. They're incredible. 🥰🖤🔮✨

When I started manacled I had no idea it was so long. (I read it from the web browser) I finished it in a day maybe a day and a half. Finally downloaded it and am rereading it with my husband 😂who just finished the Harry Potter series for the first time.

Right?! I couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards!
I always tell people to read the Silmarillion before reading Lord of the Rings - it has all the really amazing characters in it lol

Tower of Dawn was the best book in the throne of glass series. I don’t get way people don’t like it, it’s soooo good.
