Brandon Sanderson is my all time favorite author. I too started with the mistborn BUT it took me at least 3 tries to get into the 1st book. I thought the beginning was sooo heavy and complicated, but it gets soooooo much easier once you past that!!! His monster books (Stormlight Archive is an absolute masterpiece of fiction tackling real world problems like Racism, Colonialism etc.) are the kind that I HATE when they end....i just want to keep reading!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I ended up loving his work
I LOVED HOOKED!!! The plot, ughhh, the twist!!! The writing is that kind when you have to stop and say NO WAY THEY ACCURATELY PUT THAT INTO WORDS...like how!!
Angie, Sanderson is addictive. You can say now you don't have time to read everything but we'll see, once you start you cannot put it down. I think Mistborn is an excellent starting point, you don't need to read anything else to enjoy and understand what's going on. Sanderson's worlds are all connected and once you read a lot of his books you can enjoy the "Cosmere" and connect the dots, which is incredibly amazing. At the same time, each series is a standalone. If you want to read a one-book romantic novel by Sanderson I highly recommend Yumi and the Nightmare Painter and, less romantic and more badass girl, Tress of the Emerald Sea. I read everything from Sando, I just bought his last book. I'm sure you'll love it. Don't feel any pressure, just enjoy your books and keep reading what you like. But I'll be very surprised if you won't keep following Vin in her journey 😘 Happy reading!
Im living for Angie’s book content😍😍 I started with romance and went into romantasy but love both. My queens right now are Abby Jimenez (part of your world series) y Emily henry( my fave rn is book lovers) And I agree this is a great way to cleanse your palette. Happy reading!❤
So glad you're having fun with your book content ! And I cannot wait for your thoughts on Mistborn, even if I can't be of any help for romance book, I really hope you will dive more into high fantasy to exchange about it !
And here I though my book haul from black friday was bad, I only got 9 books 😂 I've read The Games Gods Play (that book you got is soooooo pretty, I feel like buying one now...). I liked it a lot, and Hades wasn't pitch black at all imo (he has a dog, can't be all black 😉). It does end in cliffhanger so be warned. If you end up liking it I would recommend checking out Elisabeth Wheatley's books (Daindreth's assassin series at least). I read The Games Gods Play based on her recommendation plus one other series she liked, and I enjoyed both. Funny enough I also use contemporary romances (or light urban fantasy or paranormal romances) as palate cleanser sometimes. Some loose recommendations for contemporary romance (basically author's I've read and enjoyed enough to remember/read more from): Christina Lauren (warning: some books/series are waaay more spicy than others), Cynthia St. Aubin (also does urban fantasy romance), Ali Hazelwood (I've yet to read Bride myself, but have enjoyed her other romance books which have science as the background theme), Ashley Winsted (Fool Me Once series), Sonali Dev, Emily Henry, Elena Armas (one of her books I liked, the next one not so much), Tarah DeWitt (only read one so far), Laurie Gilmore (entertaining but I think there better ones)... and I will shut up now. 🙊
Angie I am so enjoying your takes on the books you've read and the books you're going to read the way you explain things you like and you don't like. we clearly have this similar taste in what we like to read, but you are also introducing me to other genres like contemporary romance which I normally do not like, but I will try. ❤❤❤❤
I LOVE THE REBEL BLUE RANCH NOVELS!! I’m usually a romantasy girly myself, but I bought done & dusted as a frustration buy when I was traveling through Slovenia 😅 I fell in love with the way Lyla writes. They are a good alternative to romantasy! I read the other ones as well and I can’t wait for the fourth one to come out 🥹 Btw. I love your bookish channel! I’ve been watching you on your makeup channel for years and I’m so glad we have another thing in common! Thank you for your content! ❤️
I've read the coven and give it a 2.5/5. I wouldn't go into it expecting too much school romance. The schooling is a little whisper in the plot lol. My one book recommendation is the song of Achilles!! Definitely read it if you have not already ❤
Adored The Games Gods Play! It’s the first book out of what will be a three book series and I can just tell it’s gonna be one of those ones that gets better with each book
Well now I have a whole new series of books to look up 😁 I've finished Quicksilver and Fourth Wing, and they are both phenomenal! I agree that Quicksilver is better than ACoTaR.
Love a good book haul! I am going to Stockholm tomorrow and I have literally been hyping myself for weeks because I will absolutely go HAM at Science Fiction bokhandeln 🙌 and my boyfriend is as stoked because the next Stormlight Archive-book was just released and it is his absolute favorite books series. He has reread the entire SA-series in preparation for the new one... i have yet to dive into Sanderson, cuz yeah, there is just so much 😅
It is my ALL TIME FAV TOO!! I just can't overstate enough how much I love the Stormlight archive. I love Sanderson's other work too, but that one is my favorite 😍 Yer guy has excellent taste!
OH MY GOD!! Under the oak tree is my favourite webnoval ever. I may be biased caused I've been following the novel for years. But the growth of both riftan and maxi and they need more than just falling in love to be happy just speaks to me
Twisted Love kinda was annoying for me, but I really liked the other 3 in the series. I have enjoyed Emily McIntyre's Hooked - the retelling of Peter Pan. The others in the series are based on other classic books or stories. Hooked is good. The one based on Wizard of Oz is pretty good, too. I'm going to read Hexed soon. I have a few more contemporary books in my cart, and I am looking to pull the trigger on ACOTAR. 😅 Also, read Kate Stewart The Bittersweet Symphony. So good. 😎🤟🏾Love mythology based stories. Not me adding to cart 😂🤓
For contemporary romance, I like to listen to the audio book rather than reading them on my Kindle. They are easy to listen to while I am working, cooking or cleaning. LOL! I have enjoyed listening to a few books from Emily Henry, Ali Hazelwood and Katherine Center. Recently, I have downloaded a few of your book recommendations on my Kindle. Currently, I am enjoying Quicksilver and plan to read When The Moon Hatched next, since it was finally available via Libby.
I love fantasy and Romantacy but i love romance the most. Don't let ppl online make you feel bad for liking what you like. Best romance authors imo Lucy score, Abby Jimenez, Elsie silver ❤ happy reading.
I have found out that I love romance books. I like them between my heavy fantasy books. I read The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore and really enjoyed it. I am excited to pick the next two in the series. I also really enjoyed My Roommate Is A Vampire by Jenna Levine. I want to get the next one in that series as well. I am reading these between Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. Also, those Target stickers come right off with no damage to the dust jacket.
I can’t wait to hear what you think of the book Bride. I love paranormal romance over the more traditional romance books and there are some great series if you want to get into that
My favorite contemporary romance author is Jennifer Crusie. Her main characters are grown women, her male characters are well thought out, and many of them have wonderful supporting characters. The romance is wonderful, and believable. My best reccomendations to start would be Bet Me, Welcome to Temptation, Faking It, and Agnes and the Hitman. She also has 2 more recent series in the last 2 years as well. Also, Callie Heart had 2 older series that were excellent. Blood and Roses, and Dead Man's Ink.
I'm glad you started with Done and Dusted for Contemporary Romance because the road will only be upwards from here! 😄🙈 That's just my humble opinion of course, and I'm glad you really enjoyed it yourself! :)
One of my favorite authors is Nora Roberts. She also has some fantasy sprinkled in and most include a romance but I don’t really think of her as a romance author. She writes a thriller series (in death) as J D Robb which is about a cop, Eve Dallas, in a realistic future and her billionaire husband, Roark.
So excited to see you read The Hurricane Wars! Thea is the best of the best and-as someone who read the full saga in its original form-you are in for an incredible time. The first book gets everything going, but it should really take off in Monsoon Rising. (P.S. The world is based in Asian mythology because Thea is from the Philippines)
Guess it’s time to dust off my good reads 😂 I also listened to Throne of the Fallen and OMG Envy 🤤 I’m curious to hear what you thought of Fear The Flames. It was ok to me, not super great, but entertaining
I just started reading The Courting of Bristol Keats and it’s good so far but I'm only at the beginning. I tried reading The Hurricane Wars a while ago but I couldn’t go past the bad writing on the first pages 😅 I'm curious to know what you think of that one!
If you're something like being in a character's head and want more contemporary romance. I STRONGLY recommend Tia Williams - 7 days in June it's top 5 all time fave romance for me. I haven't got around to this could be us yet but ive only heard good things. Also Emily Henry, I've only read beach read but it's another all time fave for me.
I think you would like Priory of the Orange Tree! It is much more fantasy than romance but there is a love story in there. It is very heavy on the world building so it is not for “brain is mush” reading days but it is excellent!
Of all these, I can only comment on Filthy Rich Vampires....it was dreadful. Maybe the worst thing I've read in a LONG time 😅 I *never* dnf books, and I came soooo with that one close cause I was getting legit angry reading it.
Recommendations: T Kingfisher and Leigh Bardugo, plus Sanderson, of course. Naomi Novik or Emily Thiede for whimsical or VE Schwab for beautiful prose and cool worldbuilding (plus occasionally romance). And if spicy Greek Gods fantasy adventure sounds good, Amanda Bouchet has a fab series called The Kingmaker Chronicles
I also read Manga and Manhwa, and some times i like go back to the fantasy classics that got me into reading, like Never ending story or LOTR. P.s If you want to try something different, grab The Apothecaries Diaries Manga, and Howl's Moving Castle book.... The 2nd doesn´t even need introduction (and Rhysand was inspired in Howls), but the 1st one (manga) is about an apothecary forced to serve in the inner court, using science to solve crimes and mysteries. Maomao is definitely one of the best female characters I've seen in a long time.
When it comes to Hades, his shade of grey depends on how much agency you give Persephone. Was Persephone taken or did she choose being Queen of the Underworld over Princes of the World with Demeter who thought nobody good enough to marry her daughter?
Oh My God, you picked Emily McIntire ! I'm so in love with this serie. I'm currently reading Hexed, I'm 38% in and I'm in love ^^. The only one I didn't really vibe with was Crossed but all the other ones are amazing, I totally recommend them to you =D !! I think Hooked is my favourite but Scarred and Wretched are pretty close...It's really one of my favourite serie
I really liked the idea behind Hooked and what they did with the story. But for me the spice was not spice anymore, but very sick and disgusting fantasies of a hating mind. I almost could not finish the book because of it... are her other books the same?
Every story is different (and the spice different too) but I'd say that if you didn't like the "vibe" of the first one, I think there's a high chance you won't enjoy the others :-/
I read Under the Oat Tree on Manta. I enjoyed it but at one point it was so dragged lol (I stopped at 3rd part). Maybe the book version gonna be better😅
Oooh, the Under the Oak Tree book cover looks so beautiful, I'm definitely interested in hearing your thoughts on that one! Also, a goodreads alternative is The Storygraph. You can do half star and quarter star ratings on storygraph (like 4.25/5), and the user interface is soo much cleaner and nicer compared to Goodreads. Also, they provide you stats and graphs on your reading metrics.
For Under the Oak Tree this translation from the original Korean writing and that translation you lose a bit of the eloquence of the original text. Under the Oak Tree is one of my top 5 books of all time and a very beautiful story. I am glad it's available for wider audiences though and do hope it's an enjoyable read for you 😃 I will say the first book may be heavy romance but as the book progresses the worls building and storyline actually becomes more fantasy than romance.
Nora Roberts has been around forever. Some of her books are real stories and the smut (Angie's word for sex scenes, I think) is kept at a minimum. Other books of hers are all smut and very little plot.
Earlier this year I read a contemporary romance Next Door Nemesis by Alexa Martin. It was quick and cute and funny. I can find more recs if you want suggestions. :)
I read many genre of books but fantasy has been low on my list. Nonetheless, your excitement about your book vlog is terribly endearing and I may find one to enjoy. Please keep your critical thinking as you develop your channel. I read a lot of book reviews before investing my time and money. I believe too many people give a five star rating to books that are a 3 star at best. Critical thinking on your beauty channel has made you one of the most talented creators on Utube.
I do think that just as with makeup reading is a matter of taste, if somebody loved a book and it moved them enough to give a five star and you did not, its not a matter of being right or wrong, its a matter of taste and preference :)
If you like see reading stats I recommend getting StoryGraph it's basically another form of Goodreads but better in my opinion. Kerri Maniscalco is one of my favorite authors. I'm not going to spoil anything but based on your thoughts on other books you've read I'm not so sure the Twisted Love series is going to be for you, but I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. I hate when retailers put stickers on books. As for getting them off I usually peel them off then use alcohol wipes to clean the sticky off. I've also heard people will use a hairdryer on it because it supposedly loosens it, but I haven't tried that yet. I love Bride by Ali Hazelwood. I actually prefer it to her contemporary romance. I have yet to read a Sanderson book.
I've read the first book only. It wasn't bad and I would totally give the author's other books a try, but this one just didn't hit the right way for me to keep reading more of the series. The world building seemed interesting, though after first book I still have many questions about it, and the romance plot basically seems to have two directions where it could go (childhood crush/friend vs. bad guy/enemy). The characters are pretty young (main characters are 17-19-ish) so I would say very much young adult category just based on that. Though the world they live in makes their lives very different from our world, like having a 19 year old in charge of military base.😅
Brandon Sanderson is my all time favorite author. I too started with the mistborn BUT it took me at least 3 tries to get into the 1st book. I thought the beginning was sooo heavy and complicated, but it gets soooooo much easier once you past that!!! Mistborn is an amazing series. It's one of my all-time favorites. Really fantastic characters.
I’m loving that you have a book channel. I’m a huge sci fi and fantasy fan. Not so much romantasy but cosy fantasy and hard sci fi I’m in heaven.
Sooo glad you are trying Brandon Sanderson!!
I LOVED HOOKED!!! The plot, ughhh, the twist!!! The writing is that kind when you have to stop and say NO WAY THEY ACCURATELY PUT THAT INTO WORDS...like how!!

Me sat here taking literal notes for christmas gifts like 👀📝
haha :P
You may like Emily Henry for contemporary romance, though I’ve only read Book Lovers so far, so I’m not sure on the rest!
Im living for Angie’s book content😍😍 I started with romance and went into romantasy but love both. My queens right now are Abby Jimenez (part of your world series) y Emily henry( my fave rn is book lovers) And I agree this is a great way to cleanse your palette.
Happy reading!❤
Also Elsie Silver “chesnut springs” will forever have my heart
I am loving the book content
Hi Angie! I recommend you the shepherd king duology (One Dark Window and Two Twisted Crowns) by Rachel Gillig, they are really good!
So glad you're having fun with your book content ! And I cannot wait for your thoughts on Mistborn, even if I can't be of any help for romance book, I really hope you will dive more into high fantasy to exchange about it !
“Was that even a deal? I don’t know if it was a deal but they had a really good deal 😃”. I need someone like Angie to go shopping with!
😂🙈

Use a blow dryer to heat up the sticker and it comes off a lot easier… Like loosen the adhesive or something
Adored The Games Gods Play! It’s the first book out of what will be a three book series and I can just tell it’s gonna be one of those ones that gets better with each book
This is so fun. I enjoy some of your recommendations.

Yay! I have more books to add to my TBR. It was so nice meeting you at the C&F event. 🤩

I had no idea you had a book account im so happy!!!
I love to switch up my books- Romantasy, fantasy, romance, historical fiction, thriller/ mystery. All of the things.
My favorite contemporary romance author is Jennifer Crusie. Her main characters are grown women, her male characters are well thought out, and many of them have wonderful supporting characters. Callie Hart (dang autocorrect)
I'm glad you started with Done and Dusted for Contemporary Romance because the road will only be upwards from here! 😄🙈 That's just my humble opinion of course, and I'm glad you really enjoyed it yourself! :)
No this one was WAY better than any other contemporary romance Ive read before, Ive read some bad ones lol
One of my favorite authors is Nora Roberts. She also has some fantasy sprinkled in and most include a romance but I don’t really think of her as a romance author. Angie, I loved the Coven series. But I like dark romance, fantasy/romantasy
What did you think of the second book? I'm having some trouble getting through it/wanting to read it
@jlflan97 I read it right after the first. It was supposed to be a like she got betrayed enemies to lovers. I have it a 3 star. You don't like it?
Guess it’s time to dust off my good reads 😂
I also listened to Throne of the Fallen and OMG Envy 🤤
I’m curious to hear what you thought of Fear The Flames. It was ok to me, not super great, but entertaining
Oh yes! Mistborn was so good!
Also what do you think of Zodiac Academy? 😂 it’s school set, but my god so spicy 😅
I just started reading The Courting of Bristol Keats and it’s good so far but I'm only at the beginning. I tried reading The Hurricane Wars a while ago but I couldn’t go past the bad writing on the first pages 😅 I'm curious to know what you think of that one!
❤❤❤. I just finished the games gods play and I really enjoyed it. Blessings from Colleen in New Zealand.😊
Jag skulle rekommendera att läsa "the seven year slip" så så så bra! inte så smut heavy men fokuserar på relationer och jag älskade den!
😄 swift and saddled reminds me of the mexican clasic manga series 'el libro vaquero'
I love that we’re on the same reading journey ❤
Finished hurricane war this year and tbh didn’t like it, was okay but the ending was interesting and now considering buying the 2nd part 😮
Love all your books recommendations, I want you to read Air Awakens, it's like avatar the last airbender. I wanna know what you think about it. 😊
❤❤❤
I'm in the middle of Hexed too!
Can you start including if the book smut? I'm looking for romantasy without a lot of smut.
I do that in my review round ups :)
@angelicanyqvistbooksandtravel thanks 😊
Target has been doing buy 2 get 1 but for a day or 2 they ran a buy 1 get 1.
I jumped on those.
Actually LOVED Bride.
For Under the Oak Tree this translation from the original Korean writing and that translation you lose a bit of the eloquence of the original text. This is on my TBR list I'm.givong my family for a Christmas list. 🤩
I like Nora Roberts' fantasy books. Anne McCaffrey's Pern novels are really good too.
Nora Roberts has been around forever. Some of her books are real stories and the smut (Angie's word for sex scenes, I think) is kept at a minimum. Other books of hers are all smut and very little plot.

I've also heard people will use a hairdryer on it because it supposedly loosens it, but I haven't tried that yet. I love Bride by Ali Hazelwood. I actually prefer it to her contemporary romance. I have yet to read a Sanderson book.
Hooked is inspired by Peter Pan. But isn’t really a rewriting. More contemporary mob romance. Its good!
I’ve heard a loooot of people talking about Shatter me from Tahereh Mafi ? Does anyone if it is any good ? Is it too much young adult ?
I've read the first book only. It wasn't bad and I would totally give the author's other books a try, but this one just didn't hit the right way for me to keep reading more of the series. The world building seemed interesting, though after first book I still have many questions about it, and the romance plot basically seems to have two directions where it could go (childhood crush/friend vs. bad guy/enemy). The characters are pretty young (main characters are 17-19-ish) so I would say very much young adult category just based on that. Though the world they live in makes their lives very different from our world, like having a 19 year old in charge of military base.😅
I hope you like Bride. It was not a favorite for me. It was just ok.
I agree too
BRANDON SANDERSON is the GOAT 🐐 🥰
I don’t like audio cuz I can read faster. And I don’t like the sound of speed up audio
Use a blow dryer to heat up the sticker and it comes off a lot easier… Like loosen the adhesive or something
Ooh that’s a great tip! I’ll have to try that next time!
