Jon you really must place a content warning on this one. The monsters you drew were horrifying. I anticipate many nightmares
Many a true nightmare?
@@MrPorcupine08Many a True Phallus.
@@Mixxie67 Many A True Strongest Shape.
Could have used some Hedgehogs on the second one!!
I gotta say, excellent music mixing for it to still be on beat for gameplay
Oh you...
5 MATN Points for you.
pls, can someone ELI5 this joke to me? if it's worth 5 MATN points it HAS to be a good one.
@@johart309 Jon was upset on Twitter that nobody complimented the music mixing on Part 1 of this series
The scary monsters are too scary, I am now in hospital due to fright overdose.
Eternal Darkness is why jon is best when he doesn't plan ahead, lol

2:25 A short hike 2019
3:21 F zero x 1998

Not the scary monsters on 2 AM 😭

Jon, that is the exact path of thinking Mandalorians had when they invented the R-20 Scatterblaster to fight Jedi... because they can't parry everything.
Also the Mandalorians who thought "If they deflect blasters, let's just use bullets. Sure they'll melt when hitting a saber, but then the Jedi has molten lead flying at them." I love those murderous bastards
Absolutely Stunning visuals at 14:45
You truly captured the essence of the game there, Jon.
Dragon Age Origins is absolutely still one of my all time favorite games. It was such a great game.
take a shot every time jon goes "and..." after introducing a game (don't do this you'll die)
Favorite part is the Eternal Darkness art.
I'm glad at least a few people are familiar enough with Eternal Darkness to realise the monsters were indeed loosely based on the matching-colour Eternal Darkness enemies :)
It's not a video of Jon talking about things he likes unless he goes "annnd.... okay-"
Been watching since 2014. Cheers from California ❤
It's Jedi Academy for me, glad you shouted that out too
Same. I played Jedi Academy first and still love it so much.
Back in the day I used to be active on multiplayer servers, and it got me into mods, skins, user created levels... It was kinda magical.
And I basically NEVER play online multiplayer stuff. It's the first and last game I ever got that into on a community level.
Nah dude, Dark Forces 2 is where it’s at. 😂 I mean this completely unironically, I do think that the Jedi Knight games got worse as time went on. Like I prefer Outcast to Academy and then Dark Forces 2 to Outcast.
Never knew Jon was such a talented artist. You should sell your Paint monsters as NFTs or something.
Genuinely if he sold signed prints of his art we'd buy it.
5:09 King Knoodle is pleased.
Kudos to not only taking on this endeavor, but following through on it. I'm not sure I could ever whittle down to my top 50, let alone rank them.
Excellent list so far. A lovely and diverse array of games
Donkey Kong Country... That one brings back memories.
Really enjoy these videos and hearing you talk about why you love each game! It must be a lot of work to put them together.
Thanks for being impossibly fast for bringing pt 2!

Been looking forward to this!
So happy to see Eternal Darkness in this list. I hope you get your copy working! (Monsters were cool)
I came for the games. I Stayed for the pictures in Paint
You could've warned about the jumpscare monsters, sheesh, this video's gonna be rated M for mature
I've gotta assume Portal 2 is gonna show up here later on. I can't think of a single reason why Portal 1 would get the nod over it.
Portal 1 is better. Portal 2 has way too many tedious puzzles.
love this format.
The graphics from Eternal Darkness are so good!!!
Eternal Darkness didn't break. It is just another of the sanity effects, it wants you to think that!
Jon, you gotta put jump scare warning before showing horrors like eternal darkness!
I like the intro to this one so much you got a thumbs up from me at 10 seconds into this video. :)
Good list!
How do you know? There's still time for it to be ruined. The next two parts might all be filled with Ride to Hell Retribution!
Star Control date 0065!!
The countdown toward Jon’s all time favorite game (Star Control 2) continues. This series has opened a timeline where the entirety of MATN uploads are now part of a continuing countdown toward Star Control 2 (Jon’s favorite game of all time, whether he knows it or not).
So I very, very, so very humbly request Jon play Star Control 2.
Tyvm and gb
I really like your squiggly monsters. They're lovely.
I would have appreciated a jump scare warning for the Eternal Darkness section. Thanks.
Ah yes Eternal Darkness. A Hugely under-rated game. Played it again a couple of years ago, and while a lot of it is outdated at this point, so much of the games core mechanics are still so fun to play through. And yes, the sanity effects totally got me back in the day as I didn't know it was coming. Too bad we've never gotten another entry.
Why did Jon's scary one eyed monster have two eyebrows?
What’s scarier than the implication that something caused it to have 1 eye instead of it always having 1 eye?
I a creature with 2 eyes can have a monobrow a creature with a monoeye can have 2 eyebrows
@@kollegex6946 Call that a duobrow
Its questions like this that invite the madness. It's best to not think about it.
Gosh, knowing there's a new series coming soon, I'm sitting here hoping that we'll be seeing KOTOR 2 in action. Jon had such a lovely playthrough of the 1st one, I've been waiting for the sequel.
Good list! Just to say they've fixed the n64 emulation, so F-Zero X runs perfect now :).
Medieval 2 being this low concerns me for Rome Total War. Based on how Jon has talked about it in the past, I really thought it would be in the top 10 at least if not top 5, but now I’m not so sure
Huh, I was just playing Jedi Outcast 😂🎉 love it
The third paint monster made me shit myself
I lost some sanity looking at your Eternal Darkness MS Paint drawings, well done.
SimCity 4 was one of my very first PC games too, and I really love A Short Hike
JKJA and JKJO had THE best light saber mechanics and controls of any StarWars game ever. My friends and I played JKJA for hours at a time. We even created our own server and clan. I just want another multiplayer starwars amazing lightsaber feeling game like these but with modern graphics.
I got scared during the drawn monster segment
So exciting! Waiting for the top Atelier game😂. Jon always wanted to like JRPGs more. Skies of Arcadia Legends is genuinely beautiful in tone and wondrous in gameplay. Thank the moons!
funny you mention shotguns in star wars. mandalorians eventually developed "slug throwers" which is a rebrand of rifles like ours irl. the idea was to shoot a solid projectile at a jedi, who would use their lightsaber to cut it, and then any remaining shrapnel would pepper the jedi like buckshot
but more traditional shotguns also showed up, and were often used by Trandoshan hunters
I appreciate the lack of adds so much Jon.
Oh you like RDR? Did you watch the VLDL Logic series?
Me too, Jon is one of the few last ones, where you get some ads before the vid starts and nothing more(this vid is sponsored by...blablabla). and no in-stream ads as well.. kudos to him and Claire and the goodest boy Ted.
@@johart309 I do not get adds before even on my phone. I do on most other channels, including my own.
The battle of CK2 vs CK3 is a truly epic conflict. Have to agree with your take, though.
Here’s hoping you play KOTOR 2 or the other golden age of BioWare games someday I’m sure you’d love them and I’d love to hear your opinions on them!
man when you mentioned DKC ngl kiiinda wished you give Fear Factory a good listen to sure Aquatic Ambiance is great and was my favorite for quite some time but fairly recently Fear Factory won me over despite the stages' hard to read oil fire barrel platforming but that's just me loving anything David Wise-made
15:44 I don’t think I will ever recover from the monsters I saw… 😢
Jon, you put KOTOR on your list in the last part, I really really suggest you play the second one if you like the first so much. It improves on basically every aspect of the first game with a much more grounded and dark story, just download Restored content mod before playing it
Okay... John, you dont need to say Okay at the beginning of every game! XD
Also why not DKC 2? Or Tropical freeze? :D
Loved you including Donkey Kong from 1994
RIP ED Footage a darn shame i know that game well
Sooooo, CK3 made the list, when elder kings mod playthrough
I think it makes complete sense that you liked Dragon Age: Origins as much as you did, and I think you'd like replaying it as a different character as well, since the game adapts to your background a bit here and there which makes it feel fresh from a roleplaying experience. And there's a few different ways to solve quests as well, perhaps not as many as in Fallout: New Vegas, but still enough to be fun I think. Hope you'll enjoy Dragon Age II for what it is once you get to it. It's so different, but as long as you go into it not expecting it to be very similar to Origins, I think you'll find a lot of fun - and frustrating - things in there.
The OG Starwars Battlefront 2 has a shotgun class that is also a jedi mincing machine during the campaign or conquest, so damn powerful!
Absolutely agree with your thoughts on Arkham Asylum being the best of the series. Maybe change your name to 'Many a true statement.'
Or more aptly many a true word.
@@yasirsaydam6067👏
I agree Asylum was the best Batman, tighter focus, fresh gameplay and concept at the time. I also much prefer RDR to RDR2, yes it may represent a simpler time in my life (PS3 era) and therefore skewed by nostalgia. None the less I stand by it. Great series this, really enjoying it MATD 😎 Personal lists are so much more esoteric and interesting, as opposed to media outlets.
Jon! Fun fact about shotguns in Star Wars! The Mandalorians (You know, the planet Jengo Fett is from) have a long history of fighting jedi, and they would use shotguns a lot to fight Jedi for exactly the reason you did. Same with the flamethrowers!
Jedi Outcast, chefs kiss
lol, never tried a shotgun, I would just have an epic lightsaber duel that at times lasted longer than a maybe ten minutes, was my favorite thing about the game.
Exellent!
Crusader Kings 3, how I found this channel years ago.
"number [#], [name of game], and... ok... [rest of review]"
Am I a bad gamer because I had already forgotten that most of those games ever existed, or never knew them?
I definitely feel like the preference of City and Asylum is very evenly split. Lots of people prefer Asylum for the more Metroidvania feel to it all.
I don't think I can ever pick between them, because to me they are such perfect compliments to one another. Arkham Asylum is this tight, tense experience, narrow in focus and finely curated. Arkham City is taking those same core mechanics, giving you a big old exploratory sandbox, and saying "go play". Both are fantastic games, and a perfect example of how two games with (nearly) identical mechanics can feel so different based on what limitations you do or don't put on the world and, by extension, the player.
Would love to see Jon play the kingdoms expansions for medieval 2
Engagement for the engagement gods!
I loved the early missions in Jedi Academy. Rosh is definitely up there with Eric Sparrow in THUG as the most unlikeable characters in gaming.
First Luke Westaway recommending F-Zero X, and now Jon? I need to find a way to access old Nintendo games asap.
I recently replaced Dishonored 2 alongside D1, and apart from the two real showstopper missions it just does stand out as not quite as good in a variety of ways (the physics system was significantly changed between them, and to me D1 just feels outright more responsive)
Medieval II is probably my favourite Total War game
Donkey Kong Country is awesome! I played it to death on my dad's SNES: Lovely soundtrack. Rare was amazing back then.
I recently played Arkham Asylum and City back to back. I think City has more potential for fun and I like the tweaks on the fighting system in that one, but the story and setting for Asylum are better. I liked Asylum better than city, and I’ve heard lots of people say that, so I’m not sure if that’s really a controversial opinion.
It was criminal we never got a follow-up to the read dead redemption story
I really enjoy stealth systems, and I very much wanted to play Dishonored in a hard stealth, no kills style, but it feels like the systems in the game are just not designed to support that style. There are a lack of systems to aid in maintaining stealth, and tons of blind corners.
Arkham Asylum over City? Yeah you're probably right.
Mass Effect 1 over ME2 and ME3? Fair enough. I don't quite agree but I get it.
But Donkey Kong Country over 2 and 3? No chance. I know 3 gets a bad rap because of Kiddy Kong but 3 had some truly inspired levels.
I agree with Jon about a lot of the first entry games. For me Red Dead 1 > 2, Dishonored 1 > 2, TLOU 1 > 2, Mass Effect 1 > 2 or 3, Dragon Age 1 > sequels (not very controversial), etc.
But for me, Arkham City is one of the few games I’d call “perfect”. Imo, it ups the ante from Asylum in pretty much every way (story, boss battles, traversal, etc). That being said, Asylum is amazing and it was the gem that started it all, so I certainly can’t fault such a great pick. Either way, I think most of us can agree that the first two games were the peak of that particular franchise.
I’d also argue that Portal 2 > 1, but I couldn’t help but notice Jon didn’t mention Portal 2 in his bit about the first game, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a reason for that.
I'd definitely say Portal 2 is better than the first. More mechanics, more variety, a whole arc (with a fall and rise, literally lol), JK Simmons ranting nonsense at you for a whole entertatining and well written section and a better understanding of GLaDOS. Aside from the final boss being just ok (how do you even make a "good" boss battle in a game like that?) there isn't any part of it that bothers me/feels dull/tedious.
Eternal darkness is one of the all time greats, but I'm not sure how you could ever do a sequel to it. It needs a remaster so badly though.
Eternal Darkness reminded me of the amazing end to the original Total War Warhammer series, notably the series that got me interested in the Total War franchise and into Warhammer. My wallet does not thank you, but my heart does.
I am slain by the Eternal Darkness footage.
Have the ms paint monsters been named yet?
I'm not being dramatic but I would die for the monsters Jon drew. :,)
Only Jon can make a list into a high art project that takes a ridiculous amount of time and effort. I hope you realise that you could literally just record yourself playing one of the Rome Total War factions we haven't seen before and we'd eat it up. Or if that's incompatible because it's too close to Skies of Arcadia there's always a return to the Obra Din, a brief miniseries looking at how Fallout Frost has changed since you last looked or even just more Balatoro, Tomb Raider or Pacific Drive
I, like many people I think, am required by law to give a like and comment for Jon's amazing artwork. I have never been so scared!
Very scary drawings, Jon.
Omfg not the jedi games. How often i played those as a kid.
It will be interesting to see how he handles fallout considering he has been using one entry per series so far. My guess is that he is going to give FO:NV it's own spot as obsidians fallout and FO:4 the spot for Bethesda?
The fact that I’m legit the same age as Donkey Kong Country 😐
Medieval 2 still in my top 5 games of all time.
Jon, can you please draw more things for us?
"...and an awesome, genre defining soundtrack" that I can't let play because YT's interpretation of (BAD) copyright laws.
M2TW = #1
Wondering of homeworld made the list
Shocked Portal is this low. Wonder if the sequel is going to be further up the list.
