I honestly didn't appreciate them enough until I ended up back at home with them as an adult. It just hits differently when you're close to the same age they were when they had you.
@@whiskstowhiskers Feel this too as I got older I appreciated my parents a lot more, once you leave school and step into the real world and experience all these things sometimes you just finally get it. Why they did certain things, etc.
Yeah, my parents were and still are a wreck. Eventually learned I had to grieve not getting the parents I wish I could have had, come to terms and accept with what I was dealt, then find older people to serve as my role models.
That’s what I had to do. My mom hates it. It’s sad that if my mom does anything for me I instantly figure it’sa set up for something later… it usually is. Like blackmail

I think he was most surprised when he discovered how small kittens can be and how with love and a lot of feedings, they grow up. The very first kitten in the video was like 72 grams.

I don't know a lot about cats but I saw a documentary once that explained there is a very short window of time when the
"killer instinct" of new mother cats is turned off and they will adopt babies that are not theirs (even a different species like puppies).
Nature is bloody amazing how it ensures the survival of helpless newborns !

They bought the couches to host people in our home after my grandmother's funeral, but they really do prefer the floor.

This video made me laugh because it reminded me of my dad, who said he didn't like dogs, but if no one was around he was always talking to our dogs! He just didn't want to be overheard! But your dad went several steps further and fostered all those kittens and cats! You have fantastic parents!
I'm dogsitting my sister's terrified rescue dog while she's away. My dad said he wasn't "dealing with" the dog; meaning he wouldn't take her out while I was at work or anything. Well, he now talks to her when she follows me from my room to the kitchen, and he did take her out at least once the other day. He is more of a cat person, but he doesn't really want people knowing how much he can care about animals.

@@katjaanderson769 Yeah. She has a much older dog and 2 cats. She wanted a smaller dog and went to the shelter. The little dog she got there had been rescued from a puppy mill situation. The poor dog is terrified of everything and it took a full day for her to relax with me and now she's just as clingy to me as she is my sister. This is actually good for the dog since this forces her to interact with other people without my sister being there for her to cling to instead. It's good socialization that she really needs.
Total dad move there. I forgot to tell my dad about some of our fosters and he would run upstairs to ask me why there is a nice orange cat sitting in my mom's lap. I feel lucky that he was such a good sport about it.

What a beautiful story. It pulled at my heart strings as I can relate to the joy and contentment a cat can bring into your life. Your dad is a good man with a heart of gold! Btw, that wee grayish kitten that fit in palm of your dad's hand reminds of the time I happened to inherit my first cat, a ginger fellow named Bubba. He was just that size. A young boy came up to me and asked me if I wanted a kitten. Of course, as young twenty three year old man, I said no at first (as I wasn't a cat person, either). However, that lad insisted that I just hold him to see how nice the tiny fellow was. Well, that ginger fellow fit in the palm of my hand. He then crawled up my chest, over my heart (by design, I'm certain) and up onto my left shoulder where he curled up for a nap (and would continue to repeat that behavior for the remainder of his life). Then and there, I was sold on the little fellow. On the spot, I named him Bubba and he was coming home with me to an apartment I shared at the time with two other dudes! I was sure they'd be against Bubba living there, but he won them over as well! From then on, the three of us were Bubba fans. Afterward when I got out on my own, Bubba was my sidekick who went on rides with me in my pick up. He was also my rock during my trying times as well. RIP my dear boy. And, thank you, dear lady, for sharing. Your story stoked some of my fondest memories. May the good lord bless you all!
