  • "The world needed a hero... It got a legend!" Joel reviews the oft-derided Cannon version of HERCULES (1983) starring Lou Ferrigno and directed by Luigi Cozzi (STARCRASH, CONTAMINATION). With so many Hercules movies to choose from, how does this one hold up?
Special thanks to Invidninja92 for recommending this one to us!

I haven't seen the first of these two Hercules films in ages, but its super-villainous version of King Minos always stood out in memory, and helped build my confidence as a story teller and artist to give advance science a chance in the battle against magic. I hope you guys have more reviews in the near future - off to share this at my official Facebook group Enshohma Lives!

In the 70s I was a major fan of Hercules (DC, Marvel and Charlton comics, the myths, Steve Reeves and anywhere else I could find him) and especially his stint in the Avengers and the Champions. When I saw how visually Ferigno looked perfect I was on clod 9 when this movie came out. Sadly, I set a pretty high bar for him and this movie. But even though it didn't reach that I still had unrealistic hope that this would not only be a new wave of Hercules films just like Reeves, I even (silly me) thought it'd somehow lead to Ferigno reprizing the roll in a double roll against his Hulk self or at least in that Marvel TV universe loosely being made back then. I actually didnt even know of the sequal; can't wait to see it. Verwy entertaining and informative video.

The films are blu-ray over here in the uk, in a three-pack with the Ferringo sinbad movie. but it's from 101 films who still think that interactive menus and scene selection count as special features.

Brad Harris, who previously played Hercules in The Fury of Hercules in 1962, also appeared in this movie.

Big Louie was in good shape for that film , to say the least . He almost looked as fake as some of the monsters ! Classic film though. 80s were a good time to be a kid. I got to see it for my 10th birthday. The same week I got to go see Johnny Bench retirement game in Cincinnati , and he hit a home run to tie the game . So I was able to see both my childhood heroes perform that week. It was a memorable time

"Adventures of Hercules", the sequel, borrows some footage from another low budget gem from 1961 "Atlantis the Lost Continent". That film from my childhood itself uses footage from "Quo Vadis".

I remember being very interested in this film when it first came out, but it didn't play anywhere near me. I'm glad I didn't go to it, I would have been disappointed. I prefer to be appointed.

The strength level of Hercules in this movie is all over the place. First the guy has problems holding four horses back and then he throws a huge tree trunk in to space. WTF?
