  • Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato joins with Yannick Nézet-Séguin for Schubert's magnificent song cycle Winterreise (Winter Journey) in a recording in which she presents the story rather from the perspective of the woman, the lost love. Discover: w.lnk.to/winte...
Of Joyce DiDonato's interpretation, the New York Classical Review wrote, "What stood out was the heavy emotion that came through in her singing, as she lingered on a syllable here, pressed her tone there. She created vivid feelings with her contrasts."
Recorded: 15.XII.2019, Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall, New York City

It's a pity that she doesn't sing by heart. It bothers me a little that she looks at the notes so often.

She doesn‘t. It‘s a prop. She‘s the Woman in the story commenting on the poems the wanderer has written

Because her constricted and affected nasal voice is obviously inappropriate to sing Schubert.

@@Bumblebeebeebeebecause the music is supposed to illustrate winter/cold and the crows circling around the narrator. The fast tempo activelly works against this intention, therefore its too fast, simple😀
