    Hi Chris, looking back over the last couple of years I have realised that despite over 40 years of collecting tools this “hobby” of ours has a very slow growing hidden cost. The cost is not on railway items but on hand tools. Pliers, tweezers screwdrivers and soldering irons. All told I have no idea how much I have spent but I do know I use all the items that I have bought and they all make life a little bit easier. Keep going, it is very interesting to see your progress, you are going to have a very large full time hobby!😺😺😺👍👍

      Hi Peter - I totally agree with you. I think I have nearly all that I need, I did go a bit mad and purchase an awful lot over the past three years but like you said I will use them all.

      Hi Bob - Missus and I slowly recovering after a bout of Covid. My goodness we were ill.
      Plan is to get all the baseboards down and fingers crossed the figure of eight track running so I can have trains running at least. That is when I will stop everything and just concentrate of the insulation as by then hopefully things financially should be somewhat better.
      Glad your enjoying it so far Bob.

    Hi Chris, good catch up video and great to see progress in the loft! Looks like you had a great session at Exehaven Harbour with John and Kev, it must be great to see other peoples layout first hand and meet up 😄. Looks like you have accumulated a good selection of tools for once you get stuck into the layout. Great to see you running a few trains in the loft and love the long Express Dairy rake of wagons, looks superb! Take Care Cheers Gary

      Yeah it was a great morning at Exhaven Harbour.
      Glad you enjoyed the long rake of Express Dairy wagons, cannot wait to have a complete circuit and have that running round it.
      Bot the missus and I are finally starting to get over Covid, oh my goodness I cannot remember being so ill before, not even when I had pneumonia when I was in the army.

    Good to see the fun at John's in his video. It was good to see the trains running on our layout, and I don't envy you up in a loft. The red track gauge is generally right, and I used it when I built my track. But I did have to adjust things as I put most of my curves in. The best thing to do is take your longest coach and see how the overhang works as you move it along. Your curves up the incline are nice and gentle so you are not getting a problem, but if you had tighter curves the overhang of the coaches is more likely to make it clash as two trains pass. It is a case of testing as you go. Stephen

      Hi Stephen - Apologies for not answering sooner but me and the missus have got Covid in this heatwave, both really ill.
      Don't think I will be using any carriages bigger than what I use at present and yes if I have to put in tighter bends then I will just have to put the tracks further apart.
      Like you say testing.

    Hi Chris, really good update mate, a good set of tools is essential and helps us cack handers no end, lol!
    As for the loco’s my experience so far is that the pulling power seems to vary. Diesels seem best so far but these vary too, you just never know. It shouldn’t be to much of a problem up your steady gradient with most engines.
    The gap between the tracks is the same as mine and from what I understand is the standard. I always test mine just to make sure and as long as the trains don’t hit each other then there’s nothing to worry about.
    Really glad you enjoyed your visit, it was really good to meet you both. Hope your wife feels better soon at least she had the golf to watch! Cheers Chris, John

      Hi John - Apologies for not answering sooner but I have now got Covid in this heatwave, both of us really ill, feel like crap.
      If you have the right tools it makes a job so much easier. Whatever further bends I put in I always test them, so much easier to correct it right at the beginning.
      Yeah it was great to see your layout, not long enough though. I had so many questions but for the life of me I cannot remember one at this moment.

    Hi Chris - very nice update. Re the gap in the track on the curve - spot on - that is the scale gap you have there. Now provided you ensure any double track on curves is of a similar radius then no problem. On the other hand if you find yourself having to use say 2nd or 3rd radius curves there is a possibility bogie coaches will hit each other when passing. I got around this by using my own bespoke track gap. On the red Peco track gauge I used the set track side of the gauge but cut a groove in one of the tabs. In essence this reduced the gap from the standard set track gap but left it a little wider than the prototypical narroer gap. For your long freight - have you tried a reamer on the wagons ? Little tool from DCC concepts which should allow you to ream out all the axles and ensure you have as little fri tion as possible when tackling your incline. Cheers Euan

      @Chris-BognorRegis  2 года назад

      Hi Euan - Glad you enjoyed the update and thanks regarding the scale gap. Whatever other curves I put on there I will always test as its easier to correct at the beginning than later into the project. Yes I have seen the DCC Concepts reamer, looks the business. Think I would like metal wheels along with Hunt Couplings eventually.
      Regards Chris

    Hi Chris, great update! I don't have the whole DCC Concepts soldering kit, but I did purchase their solder and flux, and am looking forward to using it as it looks like good stuff from what I've seen on other people's videos! I also have a similar set of wire strippers to yours that are very good, and they also have a crimping tool within the handles, although I've never used the crimping tool bit yet! It must have been great to meet up with John and Kev to discuss trains! On my curves I've gone with the set track width between them, but my curves are much tighter (3rd / 4th radius) than yours! As long as your longest coaches can pass each other around the curves then you're good! Finally, hope Mrs. Bognor Regis is recovering from Covid! I caught it for the second time this week, and the coughing is driving me mad! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Chris. It looks as though the gauge you used is great. You need to check with examples of your longest coaches so that there is no error. I have yet to start laying track, but I'm toying with the idea of using the OO version of the gauge to give me some wriggle room - this of course depends on how much room you have on your layout.

    • @Chris-BognorRegis
      @Chris-BognorRegis  2 года назад

      Hi Paul - Thanks for that and like you say always testing before the final fit.
      It depends on how much realism you want to add to your layout, put it down and see what it looks like, can always change it if required.
      Are you going to video the build?

    Terrific looking layout at Exhaven, definitely something to aspire to. You might not be able to get your hand in between the two tracks to make adjustments or get a loco/coach back on track

      Thanks Charlie that is very true and a good point but you can say that about most UK model railways.
      I think it will be very rare that I will have a problem like that as one of them should be able to move, failing that I just remove the ones that have derailed.

    Hi Chris I have been using their Flux, solder and the tip restorer, all work great. I use the same track gauge and the side you are using because it works with the points exactly. As regards the loco I have the same issue with the Royal Scott on the flat! Check the tyres have not expanded due to the heat also can more be added etc.? Is the loco and tender drive? If so Try a piece of lead on the tender which can stop it skidding. Great to see progress and the trains running and looking good. Cheers and all the best.

    The gap looks about right and using the Peco gauge I think confirms it.
    Impressive pulling power from the N Class . The Jinty is like a pocket powerhouse 😀
