Another very good, valuable and informative Lesson Robin - thank goodness I can watch it for as many times as it takes to let your expertise finally sink in!
Another excellent video Robin. I saw the yellow icon in the history panel (using Silver Effects) before and had “sort” of figured out how it worked but didn’t understand when you moved it and the blocking of further edits. Thanks for clarifying.
Robin very clear tutorial. I surely have gained considerably on the use of some filters. please could you give tutorial on the use of major important filters on Colour effete pro. . am interested to kmow when I can use pro contrast as against colour contrast, etc. can filters used be rearranged should I change my mind on positioning? thanks
I will cover some of the individual filters or rather groups of filter in the future. As for the filter order, I've experimented in the past and it doesn't appear to make much difference with the images I tried with with.
Thaks for purchasing my books. I'm currently rewriting my Color Efex Book and plan to do the others. I've no idea how long this will take at the moment so can't give any timescales. If you are signed up for my newsletter I will be publishing updates there.
Great video thanks. Here's a question for you. When adding a control point for a recipe of FX does that control point only effect each individual or all of them as a whole?
Control Points only work with Individual Filters. There isn't a way to add a single set of Control Points to a group of filters which is what you would need with a Recipe.
I’ve been using Nik a long time but, like you said, I still learned something. The history control section was new to me. Thanks. That Nik software was SO ahead of its time. It is still leading edge after all these years. Any idea where the core developers are working now? I hope they made a ton of money when Google bought them out.
That's great to hear. I agree that Nik was well ahead of it's time and very well designed. I've no idea about the Core developers. I suspect they are retired. That said I heard a rumour a few years ago that some Nik developers went to Skylum but I don't know how true that was.
You were absolutely right: a couple of surprises here! One I already knew about, using multiples of the same filter. However, I’ve noticed the more filters you stack, the more noise gets added to the image, even in images with inherently little noise. While you can use any of the usual de-noising techniques, I have found that Topaz Denoise AI does an especially good job most of the time.
Good to know that I can still surprise at times. Yes, some of the Nik filters do exagerate noise, especially the contrast adjusting filters. If I had one request of DxO it would be to look at improving the image quality to prevent this from happening. I've also found Topaz DoNoise to be excellent and if you use it before Nik it does seem to prevent some of the problems.
I've just checked and I haven't received an email from you (I don't think). Did you see the "Email sent" message replace the form after sending? Some people appear to have difficulties and need to submit a couple of times before it sends - I have no idea why.
I have a Google copy of the Nik Collection. It use to work well with earlier copies of Photoshop. Now with Photoshop 2024 all my Nik filters work except Silver effects Pro. That filter will not open. Any suggestions to resolve this problem?
Thanks Robin. You have certainly helped me regain my enthusiasm for Color Efex. I enjoyed your new CEP book too!
That's great to hear and thanks for your support with my new book.

Very useful tutorial. I have purchased two of your books, do you plan to publish a book on the NIK collection?

Thank you. Hopefully for a future update as that is potentially a lot of control points for a recipe.
@@secretschizoid6860 It's probably worth adding as a request to the Nik Forum on DxO. That's where they seem to get their ideas for new releases.
@@RobinWhalley Will do. Great instructional videos. l use Affinity Photo with the Nik fx plug ins and I am constantly learning.
Your tips are very useful . Please share more tips and tricks on Color efex pro, Analog Efex pro and Silver Efex pro
Thank you and will do.
Not only interesting but very useful, Robin. Thanks and cheers from DownUnder.

You probably need to reinstall the Google version. It’s not something that I’ve come across because I’m using the latest version of Nik.
Also;utely brilliant.
Thank you.
