  • It's August 1995 and a trip out to the seaside! Inter-City ran some summer Saturday specials from Birmingham to Ramsgate. They tended to use class 47/9 although odd locos did work (like a pair of class 31s & a Deltic) these trains. This one features a loco sponsered by Rail Magazine, 37 201 piloted an Inter-City 47/8 for the day. We start at Kensington Olympia where we see a couple of DMUs on the Willesdon-Clapham service before the Ramsgate service arrives. At Ramsgate we see the locos run round plus a couple of NSE EMUs. We finish back at Kenny O with the train departing and a Valanta powered Inter_City 125 HST passes through on one of the Eurostar feeder services from Manchester, these workings could only carry passengers booked on Eurostar so normally had more train crew on baord than fare paying passengers! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

    Always loved travelling on these ‘slam doors’ units when I lived near Canterbury, and travelled from Herne Bay to Victoria.

      I remember jumping off the train once as a kid off one of the slam doors, passing slowly through our station which wasn't stopping there. The guard shouting "OI!!!" I'd never do it again!

At Kenny O on the return trip you can see the guys immediately in front of the camera looking on in disbelief as another bad-mannered idiot slid into their field of shot, so he could get his own pic - and screw everyone else...

    Unusual to see a 37 and 47 pairing as the 47 is not fitted with blue star multiple working, so presumably these were worked in tandem. I have had 2 x 37 + 47 (triple headed) at Hereford Open Day.
    The 4CEPs (and 4BEPs) were more tolerable as a southern region kart. I used to regularly get a 4CEP + 4VEP on the 21.00 Charing Cross to Dover, for the 02.00 sailing to Calais and the 05.25 Calais to Paris Nord which was a 2 x BB67400 and then the diagram changed to a single CC72000 to Amiens. I always sat in the 4CEP as it was more comfortable.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  11 месяцев назад

      The 37 was supposed to be working the train on it's own, the class 47 crewed up and running only to provide ETH for the train. It was a Rail Magazine special to have the 37 on the front. But it was suffering from low power and the 47 was indeed helping out, tandem working as you say as they are not compatible for multiple working.....

    • @vicsams4431
      @vicsams4431 11 месяцев назад

      Cheers Soi. At first glance people would think the 37 was the rescue loco as it is piloting. Whereas in fact, the 47'was doing the rescuing.

      There's no "Franchise" with a remit for such services! Why not ? Because the Civil Servants (Gov't) who design, let & supervised the "Franchises" have NO knowledge or qualifications in rail management of the rail network. Which is dealt with by another Government department you will know as "Network Rail". Hence the left hand knows not what the right hand is doing. Just another absurd example of why the "Franchise" system never functioned as a "Railway", but cost the public purse three times more than BR did. And as a result, the Government has been slowly taking "Franchises" back under direct Government control. Or as a "Modern Railways" Editorial called it "Re-nationalisation by Stealth".
