I'm absolutely certain they dumped Cassandra in Astral Chaos because her presence would completely undo SCV's story. Cassandra has a strong personality - she would have recovered Pyrrha from Tira's clutches way before the timeskip happened, and even if she came back from Astral Chaos during SCV, she would have beat some sense into her niece and nephew, wrecked the Soul swords, and dragged them home before the majority of the awful melodrama happened.
Pretty much, yeah.
One could reason that she would feel she needs to take care of her nephew as her first priority. They could also reason, depending on when her brother-in-law died, that if he was able to take care of his son, she could have went after Tira and got killed. I can't see her failing without being killed, as she was way too strong willed to give up, but story wise, the 2 options I laid out would have been better than what we got.
So basically she is the voice of head strong reason.
Hey she kinda had the same journey doing this with her sister's drama before hand so why not do it again witht he kids. The son could really need the help.
If Cassandra was in Soul Calibur 5, she would have tried to restrain her nephew from killing poor people.
I was so pissed when most of the characters were either killed or retired off-screen and replaced with younger and less likable characters. Sophitia deserved better than “lol she dead, son”. Thank God for SC6 being a reboot/retcon.
Indeed. They've got a new director too, so I hope he does a good job.
MKX did a much better job with that, placing the young newcomers along with the classic characters.

The minute a character "has kids" it's a ticking time bomb to get written off.
It has nothing to do with disliking children, but it has to do with the way writers are taught.
Writers, specially the ones that come into the projects late, see the "kids" that have nothing planned for them yet as fresh canvases to write new material, while not touching the previous lore.
The old character gets pushed to the side lines or killed off for this. It's dreadful and I hope other people catch on to the fact this happens. Again, it has less to do with making epic stories and more to do that writers are _encouraged_ to do this on automatic.
It's the norm. They spawn kids, character shows less and less, sometimes killed for dramatic effect to have the Batman-effect on the kids, move on. It's a character death sentence, sometimes literally. We need to get writers to understand there's more ways to write characters differently than this after getting off-springs.

Super late but I have a writing project in mind where the sequel would focus partially on the kids of some of the old leads, while the rest of them ain cast comes from a different continent entirely. I was still planning on having the OG group from the original project have some relevance, but I was wondering if there were some pitfall traps I should know of to avoid falling into
Miku Hinasaki (the protagonist of Fatal Frame 1 and one of sub-protagonists of Fatal Frame III) in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is also one of the victims of this outside Soul Calibur series. Not just Miku's hopeful resolution (along with Rei, Kei and Mio) in the original FF3 ending gets horribly retconned into something worse and her relationship with her older brother Mafuyu gets changed into incestuous, Miku immediately left Rei and others after woke up pregnant as a result of Miku perpetrated the forbidden with (Mafuyu's ghost) at the end of FF3 as if Rei and Miku's bond doesn' exist, Miku's lifespan gets drastically decreased as a result of giving birth to a Shadowborn/Yomiko named Miu, one of protagonists of MoBW, said daughter is an incest child between Miku and Mafuyu. This damns Miku's fate into either: dead (Miu's bad ending/Yomiko/Shadowborn ending) or alive with days numbered with no apparent cure at all (Miu's good ending/Dream Road ending). Not to mention the combination of bleak and horrible implications such as: Kirie getting pissed off, causing the Second Calamity, Rei and others' reaction about Miku's fate and the origin of Miu, etc.

This was really interesting, I learned a lot about Sophitia’s backstory in this one video than I did in the entire Soul series

Frank Bernard I didn't think people actually cared this much. I thought it was just a passing story to get us to knock the shit out of people. I actually was pissed about Soul Calubur 5 Making me go along with a story. Love the fighting and ninja turtle customization and my own God character with a dick hanging out lmao. But fuck the story
I knew some of it, but not all of it. I hope the game returns to what it was and gives us character endings for everyone, that way everyone has a purpose in this game, unlike the last shitfest of a game.

40 is pretty much the limit for women in _all_ fighting games, not just Namco, and usually only one exception per franchise if there is one. And if there ever is, there's usually some plot armor that keeps them looking in their early 20s like you mentioned with Michelle
Mortal Kombat is about the only one I can think of, but the difference is franchises like Street Fighter, DOA and KOF just don't add characters that age. Namco does these 20 year timeskips that will inevitably bring most ladies over the age of 40 and either remove them or bullshit their way around it.

It's a good video, got me kinda interested in the story abit. Of course I'm more of a gameplay guy when it comes to fighting games but I did enjoy Mortal kombat's story pre-deception and I liked Injustice's concept.
You have no idea how in-depth I've gone on MK and Injustice...
SCV wasted the potential of ALL the characters.
It did. But the Alexandras are the only ones who are really this notable since everyone else got dropped with no bios in the game itself. I could probably make more SC episodes, like for Kilik and Xianghua's ruined relationship, or Raphael being Nightmare all of a sudden.

There are a lot of missed ideas for SCV as time skip and a direct sequel. Wish they did more with Hilde and Zasalamel in general.
Was Hilde even in the story mode? Despite being part of Siegfried's group, which plays a large part in the story, I don't think she actually appears herself.

Come to think of it, I'm also mildly disappointed that Darth Vader never had any unique pre-fight dialogue with her, considering that they both felt the need to turn to evil to protect their loved ones. I know he's only a guest character, but it could've at least served as interesting banter.
Holy shit, you're right! Needing to protect loved ones is why Anakin Skywalker fell to the Dark Side in the first place!
This is a brilliant idea for a video series. And good choice for the first episode. I felt like SCV had a lot of wasted potential.

The4thSnake neat. Can’t wait to see what it is since there are a lot of ideas out there. This is what happens when the story only pays attention to 2 characters and have NO arcade endings and bios for any of the characters(even thought EVERY previous main game has those)

The4thSnake yea. I admit, I always return to the game just because of the character creations but if the game didn’t have that, SCV would of been my most least played Soul series game.
MetaKnuxXbeats I agree with you 100% there. The Character Creation Mode and Quick Battle Mode are the ONLY interesting things in Soul Calibur 5. Take that away and you have a bare bones games with some neat combat changes and great combat speed, but watered down movesets and guard impact tied to a fucking meter. You also have great and awesome veteran replaced by lame ass newbies.
I always did wonder what the hell was mitsurugi's actual purpose in the series was.

He wanted to get Soul Edge so he could use it to defeat these new "rifel" weapons his enemies were using, but this motivation was forgotten by SCII and I think he just wanted it for its power. And he has made 0 progress on that front in twenty years.
The4thSnake he has side story ties with Taki and Setsuka but i agree that his story arc is among the weakest and could've been much better, regardless, Mitsurugi is a staple character and what he established is irreplaceable.
IIRC he actual gets Soul Edge at one point, realizes it can't do anything he couldn't already do and then just travels around looking for challenges.
Talk about a one-sided character.

I don't see why someone like Zasalamel would help Cassandra. Zasalamel seeks to die in Soul Calibur III, where he believes Soul Calibur or Soul Calibur and Soul Edge combined, will be able to end his life and the eternal cycle of reincarnation he is in. In Soul Calibur III he helped Nightmare get a body/form again, cause he needed Soul Edge to become stronger, since then Soul Calibur would also become stronger.
In Soul Calibur IV, Zasalamel has a vision of the future, which he then wants to make real, so he seeks to bend both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur to his own will. And when he senses that Algol(The Hero King) has awakened, he think that Algol will be a nice opponent.
Zasalamel isn't a good guy, it can also be said that he isn't necessarily bad or at least all bad either, but he isn't a good guy. So that he sees some potential in Cassandra doesn't really seem like a good enough reason for him to save or help her, since by helping Nightmare to exist without Siegfried, he actually made it possible for Nightmare and Soul Edge to again kill countless people. So Zasalamel doesn't really mind people being killed, he doesn't even really mind being responsible for countless people dying.
So there needs to be a concrete reason why Zasalamel needs exactly Cassandra, if he were to save her, and I can't see any, Since he is mainly interested in obtaining and/or controlling both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, to which he had already given Nightmare a body/form again, which would help Soul Edge gain power, and motivate Siegfried to use and gain power with Soul Calibur to stop it.
Also unlike Zasalamel, Cassandra would actually be classified as a good person, and she also most likely wouldn't approve of what Zasalamel would do with Soul Edge and Soul Calibur.
So I don't see why Zasalamel would save/help Cassandra. So that part of your story doesn't make much sense to me.
Well, maybe he starts to realise Soul Edge can't be controlled and has to be destroyed to ensure the future of mankind. After all, he was a host of Soul Edge in a previous life, so it can't be too hard for him to figure out; especially if he realises Calibur is just as evil and can't be used to counterbalance Edge.
The4thSnake, he knows how evil and powerful Soul Edge is as a former wielder, and yet that didn't stop him from helping Nightmare exist without a host and help Soul Edge gain power. This speaks to the opposite, since he already knew Soul Edge personally and what it can do, and he still helped it gain power.
Also don't forget that he also knew Soul Calibur, since he was from the tribe that was initially protecting Soul Calibur.
So he had rather intimate knowledge about both swords before he was even introduced to the series, so him all of sudden changing his mind like that seems rather unlikely.
I can only say again, that Zasalamel isn't a good guy, and I don't see why someone like him would save Cassandra. And if him wielding Soul Edge and going berserk/crazy in one of his lives, didn't make him think he couldn't control Soul Edge, then I don't see how anything would. Plus, he even knew Soul Calibur from his tribe. So given the knowledge he already had, I would say that, that makes it less likely that he would change.
I also love both Sophitia and Cassandra. Wish both were playable in Super Smash Bros.
I LOVED your idea for what should have been the Soul Calibur 5 storyline! Cassandra and Sophitia's story has always been the one I gravitated toward the most, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I hope we get Cassandra confirmed for SC6 soon too
With how close we are to launch and the Inferno trailer, unless she's a secret unlockable, I think she'll be story mode cameo only, until they add her as DLC, and I think she's the most likely unannounced character to be added as DLC.

Debatably. I've got at least one more episode idea for SoulCalibur but I'm sure I could think of more if I gave more thought to certain characters.
In my opinion, while there was wasted potential series wide, it really wasn't that bad. It wasn't until 5 that they fucked over every character's potential that it really became noticeable.
Sophitia is my favorite character too..i been playing as her since Soul Blade..I Love her and I always felt sorry for her..the Alexandra story is quite sad..a loving mother who give her life to protect her children ..a family trying to stick together..at least i'm happy that Patroklos and Phyrra get to have a happy ending in soul calibur 5..But it make me sad that Sophitia and Cassandra never got to be Happy
And with tthe reboot, they sadly never will. Unless, Earth-1 Cassandra recruits Earth-2 characters to make her world not shit.
Happily Ever After I have a doubt. Didnt that shitty game called unbreakable soul explained what happened to cassandra, that she fell in astral chaos and landed into a parallel world where she net sophitia again? The game was shitty, but that was the only good thing the game explained. Unlese it wasnt canon.

The4thSnake I say that because I feel like he’s had so many roles he could play given his backstory as a demigod and such. Like the fact that he is the one that should technically have been Argus’ heir since he is his first born. Things like that have a lot of good story potential. Netherrealm will probably never use him properly though.
Fujin will likely be in the next MK considering Raiden will be the main villain.

Omg I love this video so much. The "wasted potential" you spoke of, really made me angry at what could've been if Namco wasn't so lazy with writing & enthralled with the men of the series. Cassandra is my favorite character and realising how much more important impact she could've made on the plot makes me rage lol. I hope she returns in the SC coming out. The Alexandra sister's story was always my favorite story going on.

I'm still not a huge fan of Lucius, I'd rather Zasalamel train/work with Talim or Ivy, and the farther Siggy is from the Alexandra family the happier I am, but outside of that I like the story!

I think Lucius could be given Patroklos' personality and character arc (running away from his corrupted sister, then coming back to stop her out of duty) and he'd be a far better character than his nephew, just by virute of not being the main character.
But Rothion himself is a terrible character, no depth.

Well if there is one good thing that could come out of Soulcalibur VI, its V being made non-canon. If we are really lucky, Sophitia won't meet Rothion in this timeline at all, thus Patroklos is never born. One can only dream. Of course, the biggest wasted storyline to come out of Soulcalibur V next to this one is Siegfried's. The fact that he was punted off to the side in favor of Patroklos for no reason while still being completely available as a character is just painful.
You realise the kids can still be born with another father. Doesn't matter if Rothion stays or goes.
+The4thSnake DIFFERENT KIDS (emphasis on different) can be born with another father. Assuming Sophitia even has kids in the new timeline. But they almost certainly won't be written to be anything like the Patroklos and Pyrrha were (especially since the current development team themselves seem to hate Patroklos as much as the fandom does). Most of the fandom seem to hate Rothion almost as much as they hate his son, so him going away is boon whether they still give Sophitia kids or not.
Realistically, yes. But why would the devs create entirely new kids when they can just re-use the old ones? I'm sure she'll still get kids either way, since it was such an important part of her story. And people only hate Rothion because he stops them shipping her with someone else. There's not enough there TO hate.
+The4thSnake As if the creators don't already waste their time time creating a whole bunch of new characters that people don't like regardless (Xiba, Leixia, Z.W.E.I.) so that sure as hell won't stop them. There are ways to rewrite her story and remove the kids from the equation, but whether they do so or not is a toss up. And that reason you gave is honestly reason enough. Nobody LIKED Rothion, and everyone hated him. Considering how little the fans cared for his character, that's more than enough reason to write him out of the story, especially since he was never playable and played almost no role in the story other than being Sophitia's offscreen husband and angering the fanbase by existing, which makes him easy enough to excise from the game.
Fans who get angry over a non-entity because "muh ships" don't deserve to be listened to.

You're so right. SoulCalibur is my fav fighting game franchise and it has SO much potential still imo. I hope SC 6 was popular enough to get a sequel bc other than a few nitpicks, it's my favorite since SC 3.
The Alexandra family is so interesting and a storyline we don't really have/see in fighting games. With Tekken being the main fighting franchise (a franchise i do still like but nowhere near as much SC) it seems they attempted to make Sophitia a true polar opposite of Kazuya (with him being the original MC of Tekken).

Excellent video. I wish you could be in charge of Namco's writing staff because the Tekken series needs your skills as it has TWICE as many potholes as the Soul series.
Lately it seems gaming has been bent towards vapid gimmicks intended to sell copies of said games instead of focusing on creating good content like the games of the 1990s and early 2000s used to.
I hope that changes, but who knows what will happen.

I'd normally be indifferent towards them, but them making the cut over characters who were relevant to the plot really annoyed me.

I love the story u gave to the sisters. Sophie and Cassie are my favorites characters in the series and was disappointed they were not in 5. (Among other things) let just hope this point forth they don't mess up cuz 6 is looking to be a promising rebirth to the series

Awesome stuff. A lot of things I didn't like about SCV, but what they did to the Alexandra family was probably my least favorite. I'm not even against the idea of Pyhrra and Patrokolos taking the reigns of the story at some point, but the time skip shenanigans with that half baked, thoughtless plot wasn't the way to do it. Not to mention some of my favorites like Sung, Mina, Talim, and Zasalamel were absent.
That, and the characterisations they gave the twins was attrocious.
YEah they were pretty bad. I've been wondering if Cass is going to be in VI's story. I'm almost thinking she's going to pop out of the Astral Chaos and be integral to the reboot. Although, I'm not sure Namco is going to go that far. She might just be good ol' reboot Cass.
Considering what happened in Cassandra's Soul Chronicle, your alternative story might be the plot for Soulcalibur VII.

Honestly I'd have loved to see Sophitia having a happy ending.... there are so many characters that I'd have loved to see with their happy endings but I guess SC5 is SC5.... But HEY? I actually liked SC6 and I'm happy that we might get another shot at the whole series and hopefully this time getting not just an extended story of side characters but also a great conclusion that either (hopefully) retcons SC5's Story allowing us to have the happy ending for Sophitia, Siegfried and... DA REST!
or either explain things which were not in SC5 or WERE in it but we didn't know it.... cause SC5 was rushed and wasn't even finished to the point where it would make sense.......
I hope SC5 will be retconned and we will simply just get a happy ending like you described it then after the characters grow older they could be training the new kids around allowing us to have a continuous timeline where things would still make sense but would be done later on but with a few characters becoming Ethereal warriors considering their connection to the soul baldes meaning that even if they might be older then they should look they'd still keep their young appearances and some shit.
But honestly I wouldn't care much about "The Youngsters" I'd only care about Sophitia having a happy life living it along with her family and probably making friends with the ones who have helped her purify her family and that would be enough for me
Now I do like Cervantes, purely because I've always been a fan of Boss Characters. That said, he has had no relevance to the plot since Soul Blade. His whole thing is a former wielder who wants to reclaim Soul Edge. Which can't actually happen, given one of the Soul Blades was destroyed and shattered by Sophitia. Well there is the Ivy connection too. But that barely matters to her storyline, let alone his.

Looking back at this I'm surprised that the Soul Calibur team didn't have Lizardman/Aeon Calcos interact in any way with the Alexandia family due to he, like Sophitia, having been a warrior chosen by Hephaestus to hunt for Soul Edge

Soul Calibur V wasn't a bad game, it was an unfinished game. Cassandra was planned to appear in the game, with a reworked Vader move-set, but game's unfinished, so no Darth Cass. Anyway, don't blame the writers for the failings of the publisher. They ultimately can only write for the characters they have. They didn't even get to finish Story mode, most of it's just story-boards.
No, it was bad. Finished or not, this is the product we were left with and it's not good.
A Darth Vader Moveset? would they have put her on steroids or something? She's have to grow and bulk up to the height and size of a sumo wrestler or the incredible hulk to pull off those wrestling moves.
So in Cassandra’s story in Soul Calibur 6 a portal from the astral chaos opens and a corrupted Cassandra (who dresses in the SCIV costume) fights the Cassandra from the new timeline. That’s, what happened to Cassandra when she disappeared in the astral chaos off screen in the soul calibur 4-5 time skip right?.. Look man I’m no lore master like you.
After playing Soul Calibur 6, with the part where Cassandra fights her future self from the original timeline. We hope that she would do whatever it takes to keep her family safe, by preventing her sister for making a sacrifice to save Pyrrha.
Secret Squirrel would have been a better love interest than Rothion.
Story aside, I hope that no characters get dropped. Soul Calibur's weapon fighting is unique and to lose a fighting style because the writers couldn't come up with an interesting way of including the character into the story would be a major letdown. Each character's style deserves to return, regardless of if they're relevant to the plot or not.
I think it's less about lack of ideas, more that they just want to add new characters and keep the women under 40.
It would have made way more sense for Cassandra to be the one to guide her nephew out of the Astral Chaos and go back in time to save her niece. But no, we have to have Edge Master wander into the Astral Chaos for some reason and tell Patroklos to go back in time to stop himself from killing Pyrrha. Also, how come Yun-Seong, Seong Mina, Talim, Hwang and Zaslamel never got mention at all in Soul Calibur 5? Seeing how Seong Mina knew about how evil Soul Edge is and it manifested once again, maybe she could have instructed either her children or students to prove their worth by destroying Soul Edge. Or maybe Talim should have gone on another quest to destroy Soul Edge knowing how much of a holier than thou warrior she is. We can't have a 40 year old Seong Mina (Siegfried and Kilik are the same age as her and they're in Soul Calibur 5) and can't have a 32 year old Talim, but Voldo can be in Soul Calibur 5 even though he's 67 years old? In that matter, why can't we have a 35 year old Yun-Seong in Soul Calibur 5? I mean Hilde's the same age as Yun-Seong and yet she gets to be in Soul Calibur 5 even though she had 2 sons with her cousin.
So as a new fan to the soul calibur series started with 6 how good was it in terms of reboot?
V is a waste in general. Most notably my time. Glad it was retconned.

Funny you say that because I do have some ideas for Raphael and Amy in V, in a way that wouldn't even need to change much from the existing plot.

If you accept ideas I think a really wasted character is Asuka from Tekken, in her ending in 5 we see that she kinda can deactivat the Devil Gene from Jin and after that all her endings have to do with some shenanigan of Lilly and her supposed rivalry.

Asuka might not be a bad choice. I'm currently mulling over Eddy and Steve. Steve is almost guaranteed at this point. Also, lots of Mortal Kombat ones, which should be obvious, given my history with the brand.

My biggest issue with just SCV in general is that these two kids were hyped up to be insanely powerful perhaps even to the point of being able to overpower the will of the swords themselves and becoming like ying yang guardians destined to keep the power of the swords at bay so that no one could ever use them for evil (or misguided good again) and what we end up with is...Phyrra is little more than a soul edge minion and her brother is a sigefield light.

I can't wait to see more of your series too! I spend a lot of time frustrated by the unnecessary padding and convolutions that stories take, mostly delivered in exposition dumps and trivia vaults. This is right up my alley :D

Being mostly the playstation guy, i absolutely loved the first soul blade game, but couldn't enjoy the rest of the series up until soul calibur V. Storywise sc5 seems a lot like tekken 7. The handful of people are involved, and the most didn't matter. But tekken 7 at least had a very dramatic final battle with satisfying ending (well, for me it really was).

Soph was my fave since Soul Blade, I'm still livid over SCV-- though I see it as a blessing in disguise, now that we have SCVI. The alternative plotline you suggested was incredible??? sophitia and cassandra are the best characters of the franchise (especially sophitia , she the reason many people discovered soulcalibur) and they excluded them ... so disappointing
SC6 was a breathe of fresh air in a game that has grown stale. I hope the series continues creating more and more unique characters.

What are your thoughts on how SCVI handled Sophitia and Cassandra? Do you think the whole "SCVI Cassandra getting warnings from SCIV Cassandra" schpiel was executed well? Usually time travel makes stuff complicated when trying to tell a story.

If Cassandra appeared in SCV she would be 38 years old and there is nothing wrong with her age because in Tekken 8 Jun Kazama appears who is 44 years old. Both games are from the same company and also in Japan, fans love adding mature female characters who look 20. What I hate most about the end of SCV is that Tira, despite all the evil she did, remains alive.
Her R34 potential wasn't wasted though.

The4thSnake It was my start, though I quickly bought 2 for my old gamecube and was immediately addicted, so that was already a step up.
Please do a wasted potential video on Taki and Natsu. They may not look like suitable potential, but you never know, and you are a very talented creator known for writing these characters in a better way then their current creators. I mean, Natsu is almost similar to Naruto in nearly every way!
To me, Soul Calibur as a series ended with IV. Algol cured Sophitia and her kids from Soul Edge's influence, and that is the end of the story.
I read a developer interview that the roster will basically be Soul Calibur 1-3. as long as they stick to what was stated I'm cool with a reboot.
Basically, this means SC1 with Cassandra, Raphael, Talim, and Tira; and then Zasalamel in a story cameo and as DLC.

Awesome video. I personally think the most frustrating case of wasted potential in V other than Sophitia is Maxi (other than the characters who just disappeared for no reason). I personally would’ve enjoyed a little sub story focusing on him and Xiba going to take Kali Yuga from Kilik before it takes him over completely. I wouldn’t know how to write the story other than how to bring Leixia into the story: Xiba asking Maxi if they can visit the woman who visits him every year, only to learn it’s Xianghua. Maxi could finally explain to her why he abandoned her and Kilik during IV and resolve their issues, at which point Maxi learns that Xiba is actually Xianghua’s son and he encourages Xianghua to let Leixia travel with them after she basically begs to go and explore the world like her mother did.
In particular, I think there’s a lot of potential in a student-mentor relationship with Natsu. They both have very similar personalities, and we could see a more human side of both of them through Natsu’s own insecurities (having a demon sealed within her and feeling like she’s a freak or losing her humanity, just like Maxi did with the shard of Soul Edge within him) and Maxi acting as a big brother or father figure to her, finally coming out of his shell that he’s been in since he last saw Kilik and Xianghua.
I’d let a more capable writer like yourself put the story together, but I’d love to see something like this come to be.
Not bad. Yeah, exploring them is somethind Im' sure they planned before they had to scale the story back due to time constraints. Maxi could have even been used to explore the other older characters like Ivy and Mitsurugi.
The4thSnake Yeah I feel a lot of the planned character arcs had a lot of potential really but they all went horribly wrong. Maxi becoming the teacher for the new generation, Mitsurugi versus Algol and Ivy destroying Cervantes would’ve made for great plots imo.
Loving this series by the way, in particular the Mileena one gave me a whole new appreciation for her character. Sticking with MK and Netherrealm I’d love to hear your opinion on Cyrax in the new timeline? He’s one of my favourite characters and I believe they absolutely butchered him post-MK9.

I think Siegfried's battle with Nightmare at the end of SC3 should have been the end of that story thread. Don't know why they did the same thing for SC4.
Very informative video. I've always liked the sisters but SC3 was my first game, I didn't know how far back their importance went in the story. I hope the new direction fixes the complete and utter disaster that SCV was. It's great that Ivy and Sophitia, both awesome female leads, have such a strong presence in the story. Replacing Sophi and Cassi with Sophitia's irritating children was a bad move.
(I'm also extremely annoyed with how they took Sophitia's later designs and subjected her to Ivy and Taki's Boob-bonic Plague, like nearly all of the female characters. Her design in the thumbnail, IMO, is fucking awful, especially compared to her previous ones.)
Disagree with your idea for a "natural" storyline. Sounds just as hackneyed while trying to shoehorn in characters imo, especially considering Cassandra's perspective of Soul Calibur in IV. I actually prefer the direction SCV went. Tira branching out for herself, Raphael-Nightmare playing politics, the Alexandra siblings being their pawns. My biggest beef was the time-warping shenanigans and 3/4ths of the story getting cut for other characters.
If you're going to call SCV the worst, (personally I leave that four IV) you should at least breakdown why its plotline doesn't work. Why is a Sophitia-nightmare (essentially rehashing Siegfried's plot) better than Pyrrha Omega? Why is Zasalamel motivated to protect Cassandra? Why would Soul Calibur wait for them to "come home" to bring order when it doesn't in IV? You say "capitalize" and "conclude", but I'm not convinced you suggested something much better.
Tira didn't do anything for herself. She carried on serving Soul Edge dutifully. The politics stuff went nowhere and the fact that Dumas is Raphael not actually being explained in the game itself is awful.
I feel that Sophitia becoming possessed is the logical continuation, given her progression from normal girl to warrior of light to reluctant warrior of the embodiment of evil.Pyrrha Omega was probably the best thing in V's story, but that's not saying much. Zasalamel saves Cassandra because he sees her potential in the abttle ith Soul edge, as I explained in the video. Calibur waits until Edge is destroyed, perhaps believing only Edge can destroy it.
Then you missed the part where she worked throughout the whole game against Graf Dumas. Inferno was fine with trying the more subtle approach his current vessel allowed. Tira preferred indiscriminate slaughter, hated the new Nightmare's lack of it, and so manipulated Pyrrha to replace him. This is while said incarnation of Soul Edge has plans already set in motion.
Really? Went nowhere? The entire setting of V is based on Graf Dumas' political machinations. The malfested witch hunts, the war, the relation with the Holy Roman Emperor, it all backdrops the entirety of the main plot and is what propels Patroklos' journey up until they split and becomes the centerpiece for the climax.
I agree, a lot of SCV's story not being in-game is awful. As we were told, 3/4ths of it in fact. A SCIV-style bio would've been nice at the very least. We're discussing content, not presentation though. (all the games are lacking in that front)
Sees "her potential to battle Soul Edge"? Again, why does Zas care? He didn't care for the swords in IV once he realized his curse would let him see cool **** in the modern world. He only stayed involved because Algol showed up to be challenged. There's no motivation for him to stick around for Cassandra.
There are a lot of holes in your scenario. I'm not saying SCV was the only road to go, far from it. But if you're going to claim wasted potential, I'd like you to do a lot more with it.
