  • This is the final installment on the Fair Fighting Rules series of videos. This video addresses the concept of one partner specifically calling for a break in the fight. For whatever reason, one partner feels that it is best to stop the fight and let the situation cool down. The partners will have previously worked out and agreed to such a process.
This process allows for a controlled pause rather than one partner simply walking out without explanation leaving the other partner to guess what is going on. The simple act of communicating the need for a time out relieves pressure on each partner.
How long should a time out last and should some amount of time be designated at the time the time out is called? That would seem to be dictated by the partners and the situation. It should be considered by each partner that calling too short of a time out might put pressure on them to return to the fray too soon. Alternatively, the intent of a time out is not unlimited. A time out is not intended for a partner to completely escape having to address an uncomfortable situation.
