I wish I could have been able to show this video to my class of Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman candidates last evening. Excellent!

The root of the word 'engineering' is ingenuity.

Wow Keith! That pump does sound like an engine. I love the sound and the workmanship to produce this pump is great thanks for putting up for us to watch and learn too

I have one of these sitting on the running board of a 5" gauge Shay, to provide the boiler feed. I absolutely love it - mainly the fact it's a little engine in its own right and fascinating to watch.
The original builder of mine even mounted a tiny pressure gauge to the outlet casting!

Wow, i have never seen that pump before. Great engineering.

This is fantastic. Steam machines sound superb when they're running on steam, but sound absolutely terrible when running on compressed air. The difference is amazing.

Great sounding pump! I looked up the valving on the Southworth engines, and they 'cross connect the valves to the other cylinder. VERY clever! Would make a good model (I suppose it would work) as just a steam engine.

The full size "Worthington" pumps worked that way. They looked rather peculiar when operating but did a good job. In the 1950's I was an engineer on several oil tankers. The Worthington pumps were used to pump the cargo ashore.

I went to the site and checked for spacing and stroke to make sure.
    1 inch and 1/2 stroke.

These pumps will fit to the crank and rods from a 210 York AC compressor To make a small 38ccm double acting engine muck like a baby Stanley or locomobile , perfect for a bike or trike, or turning an old Honda three wheeler axle in to a small team vehical, probably with a welded steel yarrow type boiler.

    Hi Keith,
Is that the 6" or 8" pump? Hard to tell from the video.

I’m going to have to build one of these!

They are not easy to build {:-)))

I might have to see if I can find one already machined. My skills are still basic. Thank you for the “heads-up”.

That 8” Sounds a lot different than the 6”.
