tell you what, for a bloke who got kicked up the a s s (viz, bike accident) you still manage a smile on your face, good on ya mate.that's how you do it keep at it.. cheers fella
Comgrats! You're still alive! No snakes, spiders, crocodiles, casowaries or utes have managed to kill you yet! All jokes aside, well done mate! Great recap! Awsome news about your knee!
That made me laugh when we were emigrating to Australia, Aunty Maureen sent us a letter with a cut out of a cassowary bird with in Capital BEWARE OF THESE! That was 36 years ago
What don't kill ya makes ya stronger! These will all be amazing memories by the time you're my old age, so enjoy it all, even the worst days are just amusing anecdotes eventually. You've got this, keep plugging dude!!!
GDay mate, good on you young fella. Never give up and never give in, you will make a great Aussie. Somewhere on that plan you need a Mrs or Mr Right. Always planing for tomorrow is commendable but never forget abouting living today. Bloody bike should of taught you that. It's great to tick off those 3 goals every 100 days, but never walk past an opportunity just to get there. Balance the scales and you will feel like your never carrying a load. Just like surfing, too much weight to the front and your going down, too much to the back and your going nowhere. Get your balance right and your flying brother. Take care Mate and good luck.
Fantastic recovery mate, you will be an asset to an employer. I am certain you'll be gainfully employed for your continued journey. Even with a smashed up leg, you are still doing shit the majority of people back home in the USA a dreaming of doing.
Great to know you are on the mend! Everything happens for a reason - maybe you needed some down time and didn't know it, lol. Stay positive - at least you won't get too cold up there!
Same in Vic but but you would have been covered under the ‘no fault’ TAC (CTP) scheme. There’s the rub, different rules in each state/ territory so travel insurance is a must. Good luck with a full recovery and keep up the great vids. Cheers.
Glad you’re healing and thanks for putting this out as a cautionary tale for other visitors. I moved from Canberra to Melbourne with lots of plans of what life would be like in my new city and have been ill the two and a half years since I got here. Barely explored any of it. The gap between expectation and reality can be a disappointment. Hopefully the mindfulness you’ll have gained through your recovery and the extra appreciation for the challenges people with different illnesses and disabilities will be important for you going forward. I’m looking forward to when you can share your exploration of a couple of other parts of Australia, even if just weekend trips.
Don't know if anyone here has said so but, typically we call all monitor lizards in Australia, Goannas (goanna : singular). I've never called them monitor lizards even though I have always known them to be monitor lizards.
Hey Greg, I’m that chick that had a similar accident around the same time as you, who posted on another one of your videos. Glad to hear you’re doing better now. So normal to have a period of feeling a bit crap. I had a similar bump in my recovery process as well. My mcl, pcl, and lcl have healed and my acl is also recovering too (apparently serve injuries like these increase the healing response and the acl benefits). Unfortunately, I still can’t fully straighten my leg (currently at 5deg) and can only bend to about 115deg. How’s your range of motion? 🤔 I’m still doing brutal physio but it’s getting there. About to start back at gym now too - thanks for the motivation 🙂 Keep us updated!
Congrats! It felt huge when I was finally allowed to do some exercise. I can get my leg completely straight but still struggle bending it. ATM I can probably bend about 115 as well. Hopefully they start me on some stretching exercises soon!
Thanks Greg, i'm so Pleased your leg has improved with no more surgery required, keep up the strong attidude, and enjoy your time in Oz. Enjoy a XXXX for me 👍 nsw
Good to see you are up and about again Greg. It was a pleasure meeting you. My offer for the Tablelands tour still stands, but I have been called for jury duty for the next 3 weeks so I won't be available until that is done. Cairns Show is next week (and Public Holiday on 19 July ie that'll make a long weekend , and heaps of people will head 'bush' and go camping. Hopely the weather will be good. ) You should go; it's a " cultural" experience lol.
The Mareeba Rodeo in on this coming weekend 13-14 July. Another "cultural' experience and just an hour away. A totally different vibe from coastal Cairns.
Thnx Colin. Not sure about the Cairns Show as I might be working. Are there any trails in the area for backpacking/trail camping i've been really interested in trying to do some of that out here!
There is good and bad in every situation life throws at us and I think you have to credit yourself with exhibiting endurance and positivity through adversity. I had fall and fractured my ankle, leg and three metatarsal in Rockhampton three days into a seven week round road trip from Melbourne to Cairns and back to Melbourne. It was the Wet season in Queensland in January and the heat and humidity was through the roof. My leg couldn’t be put in a cast because of the swelling so I only had a back slab bandaged onto my leg to support it and in Cairns I hired a wheelchair. Couldn’t make it to the Rainforest but had a day out on a tourist ship (carried on by the crew) to the Great Barrier Reef roaming around onboard in my wheelchair. I had a great time spending the day with a lovely lady from Boston who didn’t want to snorkel etc. it took me 8 months to recover full mobility of my ankle joint but it eventually came good after my chiropractor told me to raise my leg, suspend it in the air and write out the upper and lower case alphabet with my foot … got 100% mobility back in no time. 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇸
Living in Cairns, I thought you were going to say day 36 bought a new e-bike, day 37 the e-bike was stolen 🤣 Glad to hear you have recovered well from your accident!
2:58 - "Random Starbucks"... not nearly. That little café will deliver a reasonably proper coffee to you, unlike that junk Starbucks call "coffee". You keep hearing stories about Australia's "coffee culture"... they're not stories. 🤫
Fantastic recovery mate. I broke my leg on May 15, surgery on June 6 I think was back to work some time in the week before September 20. I'd say that walking did help, so did you brake a bone or was it ligament damage?
I would be wearing a protective fabric compression sleeve around the knee for a little while longer if only to make you aware you need to be careful with it. It's so easy to accidentally trip especially wearing thongs/flip flops..
@@gregjameson327 Please be careful regarding footwear, Thongs/flip-flops are so easy to slide or trip over in, especially as you do not have full mobility, as you don't want to have more troubles.
Around 30k US. I've stayed at break even for the majority of the time I've been here. During my first month struggling to find work I spent around 2k without any money coming in. Thinking of moving to a different country??
Welcome to OZ. I'm sorry you had to do ALL this in Cairns. Rain rain go away. Make your way down to Sydney mate. We'll look after you. Google Cronulla - it's much like Cairns...But better.
I would help you if I could... but there are issues here... you could live here etc...but, I'm dealing with big issues from the US... not me, I'm a kiwi.. girls..
Cairns township is a shithole. People are lovely. Port Douglas leave it for the tourists. Weatbix is munchie food with strawberry jam and wipped cream. Melbourne is far better to have an Australian experience during spring to autumn. Cultured sporting central to fly to where you want to go.
40 years ago, Cairns was only reachable by the toughest 4wd with a very experienced driver. Queensland has seen more development than the rest of Australia combined during my lifetime.
Survival, yes you really have, just like a real Aussie! I hope you get back to working soon and saving for your next goal or adventure! Surely the hardest days are over! 🤗👍
Gotta love the health care system in Australia 😊
As an Aussie, glad to have you

My thoughts exactly that mindset makes even the worst circumstances useful. The weather is fantastic atm btw hahaha
You were lucky with workers comp. In NSW injuries when travelling from home to work are usually no longer covered.

The human body is an incredible thing and can really bounce back when treating it right.
Nice video and congratulations on making it to 100 days in Australia

Now, to survive a Far North Queensland tropical summer, I hope you enjoy the heat.

Your in the best country in the world mate ✌
100 days easy , I have not only survived but thrived in Australia for 54 years !
That’s a hard record to beat

Had you been paid superannuation? Sometimes they set you up with income protection with the super fund. That may help with your income side of things.
