There’s a little spot somewhere on the way towards Maraetai where about 4 years ago I met this “PROPER RICH” old man, I worked with my dad on his internet and he had like a proper old school mansion like in the movies with the pillars, palm trees, garden and statues but you can’t see anything until you drive into his property because everything is covered up from the outside from the tall hedges. he was cleaning his car collection (he said he cleans it every week btw) and they weren’t normal cars, they were like 1920-1940ish Rolls Royce’s, he had like 12. No joke he also had a tank sitting in his front lawn. His mansion literally looks like a scene from the TV series Bridgeton.

Used to be filled with many Pacific Island families and there still are some in and around the area but like the video said-it got "gentrified", just like all the surrounding areas like Ponsonby, Westmere and Grey Lynn. Cool vid though.

Certainly is one of the best places to live, but people are either working dusk till dawn to survive financially, and pay half their earnings in tax, or in the doll (unemployment benefit) being supported by the govt, with no occupation. Two extremes!

Residential property, probably. But most expensive, definitely not. There are farm properties in the South Island that sell over 50M. There was also a farm property that was up as a EOI that will sell for over 150M minimum.

@@riamriam6758 good point. I was purely referring to residential properties in response to Ollie Wall’s comment re $50 million property in Herne Bay as Paritai Drive mansion is still $58 million on CV.
There are definitely farms, forestry investments that go into the $100s of millions

I’m 52 hoping to end the rat race by 60 with above $1M. I know money is a liability to be exchanged for assets with real value like real estate (properties for rent) stocks (dividends) bonds (interest) But, what is it with bitcoin? I hear a lot about it and I'd love to diversify my portfolio.

look at the charts, bitcoin has outperformed every stock and banking product ever developed even after multiple pullbacks over the last decade. not a financial advisor but I know what i'm saying

The key is diversification. Personally, I delegate my investing to an advisor, cos my job doesn't permit the time to perform market analysis myself. Thankfully, my once ago stagnant portfolio has now 5X in barely 4 years, summing up almost 7 figure as of today.

And to think my parents (dad kiwi and mum Samoan) owned their first home freehold in Herne Bay in the early 70s … and then moved to the suburbs for safety reasons. No joke. You’ll often find that Auckland’s inner suburbs during the 70s/80s as case examples for white flight leading to gentrification
