Hook up close to the ground , place strap over a wheel close to small tree or bush. Now pull. By doing this you will be pulling up the roots instead of trying to pull all the dirt sidewalks. MUCH EASIER, LESS STRESS ON TRUCK OT TRACTOR. An old man taught me this 50 years ago. Now I’m an old man hoping to share with younger men.
I'm sure that you know this but others watching might not. Be careful pulling with the hitch ball. Yes this might be a lower stress application but they can snap and go flying. Companies make dedicated hitch receivers with a shackle. You can also use the hitch pin directly
I'm glad I found this. I have 10 butterfly bushes that the previous owner planted too close to the road and they really blew up this season. They're several feet into the roadway, so they need to go since trimming them back enough to clear the road will look terrible. Wife and I started with a Sawzall and a mattock and got one out yesterday, but I'm hurting bad today. I think just ripping them out with the truck is going to be far far easier.
It seems easy just towing from the tow ball but not recomended by 4wd enthusiasts . The ball can snap off if damaged . If towing a vehicle out of a bog or pulling out a tree , its weight to tow can be double the weight of the vehicle . Can take tow hitch out and replace with tow strap or use a tow point . Hope that makes the job better
We had a Crepe Myrtle, 5x's the base size and it was a monster to dig-out. It was at least 30 years old, what a bugger it was. Many years ago I pulled a two story bougainvillea plant out with my old pickup truck! We got it out, it wasn't giving it up easily! Had to use chains because the straps we had broke!
I’ve never laughed so hard in my entire life! But seriously great work getting it out of the ground and doing your best to satisfy your wife. Love this video for sure!!
I’ve seen videos of people doing this, but using a spare car tire as a pulley near the base of the plant, pulling up as well as sideways. I’ve got a couple of old shrubs I want to pull out, but they’re right over top of the gas line, so I’d better just cut them low and bury the stumps.
Not so bad in the direction he went. If it let go, it flies towards the tree. Never do that with a chain. Rope and straps won't hold the kinetic energy like chain or wire will...
Hahaha! You wore the white shirt for a reason, and it still didn't work. We've all been there! I laughed out loud! My wife asked me what I was laughing at, I said nothing. I could literally see her gears starting to turn. 😂
I have been cautioned to use only chains, to avoid breaking the back window of the vehicle if the strap breaks or slips off the scrub. I never heard to not use the ball hitch. So I guess we will remove the ball if it isn't rusted in place! We have some old hedges to yank out. Digging them out is not an option at our age. I will gladly sacrifice a few sawzall blades to cut roots.
Holy cow, pull from the frame not the ball hitch unless you have a shackle, people have been killed when the ball connection is torqued at high pressure that exceeds the straight pull of a trailer and rolling weight.
I like it and would like to try with an invasive species but Why don’t I just chop it down? That way the soil gets the nutrients from the breaking down of the old roots?
Most trees can only be transplanted in the spring or fall as well. Otherwise you will kill the tree. Also, the make what are called treesavers if you ever need to pull yourself out without worrying about killing the tree lol. Don’t tell someone that they can pull out a tree with a car/sedan. Lol. They will mess up suspension and trannies. That’s way too much stress on something smaller than an suv.
Attaching to the ball hitch is fine, as evidenced. Don't let the keyboard commandos tell you otherwise. They've probably just heard someone say don't use it before and are just regurgitating it so they have something to say.
You and I both know no matter what you do with this crepe myrtle somebody will have an opinion dig it up tear it out recycle It Burn It to the Ground everybody has an opinion and I'll tell you you can have that when you're sitting in your mom's basement I bet you one or two of these people have actually seen one out the window
Lay the strap over your spare tire. The leverage pulls it straight up and the tire multiplies the pull. You wont have to cut around the shrub.
Sean Strickland, you really kept the cursing down in this video and were cordial. Nice job.
I didn’t know you did landscaping in addition to MMA. 😂
Reminded me more of the guy on chickpass.

It is a pretty colored Crepe Myrtle. Good you were able to save it by transplanting it.
I'm so glad your wife wanted to keep it. 🌺

But you edited out the swearing!! From experience….I know swearing is usually involved in projects like this.

To bylo naprosto super. Takhle vytahovat keře i s kořeny jsem ještě neviděla. Palec nahoru v každém případě. 👍👏👏👏🌿
Smile for the nice new Crape Myrtle.
A shiny tarp is great for dragging transplants and debris to one area.
ive been there many times, it is still time efficient to dig out around the root ball.
Looking forward to the plant's update!
Probably the prettiest shrub in the garden shame the client wanted rid? Your wife has much better taste.
@@jamesbaker429 , don’t worry, my experience says it will be back next year. And it won’t be 3 or 4 trunks, it will be at least a dozen.
Awe, she sounds like me. I drag my hubby into my garden hobby against his will all the time!

That was nice of your dad, lucky you 😆
Digging is such a pain for 2 of my boxwoods. Then I decided to used my Tacoma for the rest of my boxwoods. It was faster and less work 👍🏻
I'm no tree hugger, but man that's a beautiful tree. Something we can't grow in Ohio.😢❤
I wonder why she was getting rid of it. It was in a good location away from the foundation and was a pretty plant.
Most RUclips How To's leave out the spousal discussions on how the original plans have to change several times :D
I wouldn't complain if you were using a straight Mount ball hitch but you got to drop ball leavering the force on that weld on that ball assembly
Pulling with that ball is YIKES 😬

I was going to comment you should relocate the tree
You're not supposed to pull using the hitch ball but rather you should get a C-clamp for your hitch receiver and use that for the strap.

Did the tree survive?
Screw the saw
How much would you charge for this normally if you were also throwing it for waste?
Good video. Thanks. I cringed when i saw the saw blade in the dirt. Other thing, any concern for underground utility lines?
What did you use to make your business logo? Your landscape logo?
It's a Crepe Myrtle... Beautiful tree.😢😢
How did the shrub make out? Did it live?
Lol. Be careful what you up root. Crape myrtle are pretty. 🌳
Who is filling up the hole you left behind?

It's been a year. Did the plant live?
Is it easier to pull out when the soil is wet? Or best when dry?
I thought my wife was the only women who asks for unreasonable project's to happen like layen 3 day old sunbathed turf
I saw a bumper get ripped off this way once.
Next time, you drive the truck, wife stays home.
Sean Strickland twin
USE a shackle to attach straps, they can get tight knot, hard to separate (from own experience)
Herrr durrrrr
MUH BALL hitch ! 😭😭😭
So if it dies, you’ve gotta pull it out twice? 😂
It's a crepe myrtle...it would grow in concrete!!!
And the tree could easily be replanted.
Garbage plants can't stand them
That's why you dont bring wife's to work..
This guy is great personality and everything 👍😂😅🤣🤣
You really should never use a strap around the hitch ball like that. Get some soft shackles and the proper receiver attachment
She should of said, I can cook or dig the hole.
WOW!!!
You’re gonna kill that guy when that ball breaks off and shoots back…
And if you dont have a truck???
Never use the trailer ball, they are. Not made for that type of strain.
just don't tell her about it and get a buddy to help get rid of it hahaha
Need a tire
I see Brad your wife puts more work on you lol
❤❤❤
💚👍👍👍
Stand good and close so that strap takes your face clean off when it snaps
Please god don’t use a ball hitch.

Like a rock 🪨 lol 😆
Never never never pull cars out or trees or anything like this cause it’s crazy dangerous

Crepe myrtles are a pain in the ass I dislike them
That said they root so fast that you could have cut the root mass off from the tree then just stuck it in a smaller hole.
Typical woman 😅 ugh...
