I think you are the best instructor on RUclips ! Easy to follow, take your time to explain, and methodical . Really, really helps. I used to crochet and then just got away from it. I have been watching other videos before I found you ,and all are way to fast for a newbie. I was wondering if you could show how to do the small round face scrubbers sometime.
ABSOLUTELY!!! And thank you so much! I will be posting regularly this year so if you haven't already you may want to consider subscribing and hit the bell to be notified when I post :) XO
You’re the only crocheter I’ve found on RUclips that uses their finger to loop around the hook instead of the hook around the wool. That’s exactly how I crochet I was beginning to think I was the only one . 👏🏻👏🏻😁
I am a very BASIC beginner. This is a very good video! Your voice is clear. You talk the student through each stitch as your illustrate it. You repeat very slowly and then you repeat again. Thank you very much.
S Devine, just a word of advice. when making a washcloth the best yarn to use is a yarn that is 100% cotton. It's washes well and holds up to being machine washed and dried. Have fun with it! You'll enjoy it! Good luck! :)
Thanks so much! Yes I agree with Bethany - cotton is your best choice to hold up acrylic is just my choice - and for a beginner I find it much easier to work with. The cotton I have available to me tends to get strandy (for lack of a better word) and is hard to work with as it unwinds.
Pretty Darn Adorable Crochet Tutorials, I totally understand the strandy thing with cotton. I guess I just thought acrylic doesn't absorb very well. But since I've never used acrylic for washcloths, after reading some of your comments here, I'm gonna try one. :) Thank you for the reply and great video. Awesome for learning!
I know it is a washcloth and not a dishcloth, but you never know who is watching and will misunderstand. That is why I thought I would throw in the disclaimer about acrylic yarns in the kitchen just in case someone thinks this might be useable in the kitchen as well. Check out www.knitting-warehouse.com for yarns. Fabulous choices there. Also the major stores like Hobby Lobby, Joanns and so forth, all have websites you can order yarn from as well. I live far from any stores so ordering yarn online is a blessing for me! Hobby Lobby makes a cotton yarn called I love this cotton that is so soft and easy to work with. Hope you try some soon!! One of these days I will get brave and post my crocheted dishcloth pattern.
I finally discovered a washcloth lesson that was not only precise but very clear and simple especially being my first time. You are my new virtual online teacher 😂
🎀 Your hands are beautiful 🎀 Thank you for explaining why I had 24 loops and not 25... NOBODY... in all the videos I have watched have addressed that. As far as worsted yarn... great for exfoliating dry skin. Love your work.
I was thinking the same thing. I've been crocheting for a long time and I've only used cotton for anything like washcloths or towels.. You need cotton to soak up the water. Acrylic will not soak up anything. It's a plastic yarn. Please just know cotton is the only way to go
I have always worked in the first chain to help me keep the edges really crisp and straight, my OCD gets the best of me in crochet and so I always stitch this way no matter the pattern.
Thank you, this video has really helped me. I made it as a gift for my mum and the ribbon you used to keep it folded is a really pretty touch. Thank you! :)
I have not crocheted since I was still in elementary school (I am 79), and I just wanted to make my own scrubbier and dishcloths. I practiced making your dishcloth along with your video, and I am anxious to make some "for real." Thank you very much for your video!
Wow! I crochet and I came across your video for the first time. I am very impressed by your instructions. If I was a beginner this video is one I would want to watch. I have saved your link so that I am able to send new beginners to your website..... Thank you so much for a clear and understandable tutorial.
In the video u mentioned a video about how to fix ur work if u drop or add stitches was wondering if this video is still to be made as it would be very helpful x
She is so soothing to listen to. Did anyone else notice that she uses her left finger to loop the yarn around the hook instead of twisting the hook to grab the yarn 🧶. It sort of had my OCD going crazy but she seems so sweet and if it works for her than what does it matter?
I may try making a washcloth with synthetic yarn now! But I definitely like you should mention that you like to make yours with acrylic instead of cotton just to avoid confusion, especially for beginners because nothing is more frustrating when you’re just starting out than having a project not turn out the way you thought it would and 100% Cotton definitely gives you a different feel when wet!
Acrylic is a plastic which doesn't absorb water. This makes it great for scrubbing. I have an acrylic granny circle that I use to scrub dishes and one in the bathroom for scrubbing my face and skin to get those icky dead skin cells off. The acrylic yarns are gentle enough not to scratch your dishes or be to hard on your skin. For drying dishes, the counter top or my hands in the bathroom I have cotton wash clothes that I have made. So for determining what type of yarn you use just ask yourself, "Will it do what I need it to do?"
You do the best tutorials that I’ve seen in the 10 years ago, or so, that I’ve been crocheting! I could have saved myself a lot of trouble if I had found you earlier! Question, I crochet tight so my corners curl too. Is the wash cloth going to straighten out once it’s washed?
Wow, thank you! When you say corners do you actually mean the edge of the washcloth? Yes as you use it the fibres will soften and become more relaxed. Let me know how you make out :)
This was so helpful! I still ended up with a pyramid lolol, but It is not bright enough in here to count stitches. What is this stitch called? Thank you!
If it is a pyramid you are dropping stitches mostly when you start each row. Try just using a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of each row so you know exactly where to work. This is single crochet stitch :)
Pretty Darn Adorable Crochet Tutorials Thank you! Lolol I can’t believe back then I didn’t know it was called a single crochet stitch! I just got my stitch markers in the mail after a snafu with shipping. Thanks again!
hELLO, YOU MENTIONED ITS HARD TO AVOID NEEDING TO BLOCK. i A..oops capa . anyway, Is that because your using acrylic rather than cotton? Or due to your tension. I thought it best to use cotton/ cotton poly blend. Ive never had a wascloth curl. Interested for educational purposes. Thank You
Well, thank you! A few things about the acrylic it’s not as absorbent. I keep them reserved for the bathroom really because I like the feeling on my skin when I’m in the shower a little bit softer and I find that the colour doesn’t fade as much but my stepmom uses acrylic in the kitchen and seems to wear up well. Hope you enjoy the video.
I’m sorry I’m not sure what you mean. Do you want me to make it larger if that is it yes just continue to add row but you will end up with a rectangle. If you want the whole thing larger, just chain more at the beginning, and then crochet rows until it’s the size you want
With this project can I use this pattern using a red heart yarn acrylic? It looks like your using red heart yarn acrylic in this video right? I love your work !!!!!!🌻💕👌
Thank you so much! Yes this is acrylic. Red heart would be great. Some don’t like acrylic for cloths I love it because it generally lasts longer IMO than cotton. Have fun and thanks for being here !
I'm a little confused...if you are working in only the "back loops" of a single crochet, wouldn't you only work under 1 leg of the "V" and not go under both legs of the "V" of the single crochet? Thank you for your video!

I have actually had better luck in the past knitting my washcloths than I have crocheting them. That's just odd. I guess everything is not for everybody. But this is a great video thanks for your instruction.

Cotton is definitely softer then acrylic.

Hello there, Just came across your video and I love it that you explained everything so well. Thank you
Thank you ;) Glad it was helpful!
this is cute... but I highly recommend using a 100% cotton yarn for washcloths. They wash well and soft on skin.
Yes I do too - I just like acrylic for having my bath :) Happy Holiday!
Thank you this information is very important because once this gets wet & washed it gets ugly.
Wonderful instructions......thanks so much
Thank you for the tutorial. It was easy to follow and I am going to work several up, Thanks
Great tutorial! I have tried doing single stitch pieces before but never really understood the stitch counts until you talked about them

It’s hypnotic when you made your chain 💞
Great job explaining for me as a beginner, especially counting which to me was the most confusing. Thanks.
For a washcloth why are you not using 100% cotton yarn?
Just personal choice i like the acrylic to use for a washcloth and the cotton for dishcloth

Ok...I was going to ask that....maybe she's just using that yarn for an example.
@@micheletemple2403 she did say for beginners n first crocheters.

You are so welcome!
Thank you are a great teacher.
Thanks so much Jan that means so much to me. xo
I love this pattern
I'm so glad - thank you for watching!
One more question - if we prefer to use cotton yarn, what size hook and how many stitches would we cast on? Thank you.
Hi Mary, you can go ahead and make exactly the same with cotton yarn :)
This was so helpful! I still ended up with a pyramid lolol, but It is not bright enough in here to count stitches. What is this stitch called? Thank you!

HI Jill it would really depend on your gauge - let me know if you would like a video showing how to do this!
Very nice ! Why don't you pull the yarn from the end of the skein comes out easier than unwrapping? Just curious 😊 You do lovely and even crocheting.
Thank you for the clear informative video. I love your frog tape measure! Where did you get it?

So you have a pattern for half double crochet making hot pads?
That sounds like something I could definitely do! I have been working on one that has a texture but perhaps something more basic to start!
Can you add on to a single dish cloth
I’m sorry I’m not sure what you mean. Do you want me to make it larger if that is it yes just continue to add row but you will end up with a rectangle. If you want the whole thing larger, just chain more at the beginning, and then crochet rows until it’s the size you want

I have always used Cotton as it last longer with continuous washing.
What cotton do you use? The ones I have tried get stained so easily they look and smell gross :(. I'm willing to give anything a try to avoid that!
Cotton yarn?
Cotton is great especially for the kitchen 😊

Victoria Kuhn worsted weight yarn. It’s the thickness of the yarn

how to use the cloth
I thought you were making Washcloths? Is that Cotton ?

Noooooo..... Cotton maybe even sport weight cotton. No yarn :-(
Please don’t use acrylic yarn for washcloths
Should've used cotton👍

Cotton is what should be used for washcloths not this stuff!!!!
