I'm fairly new into wood working, making everything from a to z and have made a few hand carved wavy flags and they all turned out amazing and sold one but Im quickly learning this is just like our lawn care/landscaping industry....its a race to the bottom! The 3 flags Ive made, I bet I have 5-7'ish hours into making each 13x24" flag, hand carving everything including the stars and asking 350.00 and it blows most people away. Unfortunately for me it's what I like doing the most.
Yep mine does that too. You aren’t doing anything wrong it’s just the one you got doesn’t work that way. They do make them that go upside down but they’re a little more expensive.
I don’t but it’s about 14” tall and 24” wide. The vertical piece has strips that are 3/4” apart so that holds the strips square and flush. I used a carpenter square and glue and brads and then once it was dry I drove in some screws to keep it sturdy. Been working great for a few years now!
Thanks! Etsy is kind of a race to the bottom so I have found that if you are just starting you basically need to be at a break even selling point and then when people see you have sales and stars they will be willing to pay more. Etsy isn’t great to make good money I’ll admit. Shipping is a killer too. I have definitely sold an item or two where I lost money when factoring in time.
I’m not exactly sure. This was the cheapest one they had a lowes a few years ago. It doesn’t have a lighter but has lasted a long time and is easy to dial in.
Nice work! I really like the idea of using nails instead of scabs on the back. Do you ever have them warp after a while (months or longer) using the nail technique?
Thanks!! I haven’t heard from anyone that they have but I usually do put a couple strips on the back. I didn’t film that part but they are thin, maybe a hair less than 1/4” so I’m not sure how much support they really provide.
Wow I'm blown away, the jig, the tattered flag, no joining boards on the back, awesome!!! Thanks for sharing
So glad you liked it thanks for watching!!
That jig is awesome!! Thanks for the tip.
*I like this Jig Idea!!! I’m going to use it. That Blue looks a Little Bright.*
That jig for burning is genius!!!
Thanks!!

Glad you like the Cricut. Nice job!
Thanks for your encouragement! Really fun piece of equipment.
That is really cool. Great video thanks.
Thanks so much!
Nice job on the flags!
Thanks Austin!!
Great job thx for sharing
Awesome job, Beautiful work
Thanks so much Mary!
You do it well sir!
Thanks Seth!!
Where did you find the cross stencil?
I have a 24" flag that I used my Brad nailer on and I've had no problems with warping. I made the flag in 2020.
Nice!
great idea
Thanks!!
I bought a torch from Walmart and every time I tilt it over the flame goes out am I doing something wrong I’m new to woodworking thanks for any advice
Yep mine does that too. You aren’t doing anything wrong it’s just the one you got doesn’t work that way. They do make them that go upside down but they’re a little more expensive.
What color is that miniwax stain? I can’t find it anywhere
Yeah they don’t make it this way anymore. Just ask the paint attendant for a royal blue like on the American flag.
You should make a video on how to make that flag jig! I’m definitely interested in that!
Okay maybe I’ll put together a quick short. Thanks for the suggestion!
Very nice. Can you tell the top coat you used please?
Thanks! Yes I used Halcyon clear by Total Boat. Great finish and very tough.
What cricket model do you use?
I have the Explore Air 2. They go on big sale on Black Friday usually.
Love ❤️
Do you have a video for your flag jig

Oracal 651 is a much cheaper alternative for permanent vinyl (631 for temporary vinyl).
Thanks for the tip I will check it out!
Great job. I checked at Lowe's and 2 stair treads will cost me $53.94 + tax. What do you think about using 5/4 decking? Other than being PT.
Wow! Pain or oak? I think 5/4 decking it a great idea especially for the pieces that will get dye you’d hardly notice the PT.
Im very curious on how you made the "jig" for the flag
Just a few pieces of wood that I glued and screwed at a perfect 90 and then some runners up the side to hold the pieces aligned while I nail them up.
Thank you
Great looking flags. I have tried to sell flags also on etsy with no luck, any tips? Thanks.

@@RLLWoodworks Thanks
What color stains did you use?
These cans are a bit old but the new colors would be Minwax Barn Red and Navy. Depending on the look, might need two coats.
What kind of torch head do you use?
I’m not exactly sure. This was the cheapest one they had a lowes a few years ago. It doesn’t have a lighter but has lasted a long time and is easy to dial in.
How much does shipping cost you?
Anywhere from $8-22 depending on where it’s going.

@@RLLWoodworks Ok Gotcha. Thank you!
@@RLLWoodworks which criquit did ou end up going with?
@@webcrawler3332 I got the explore air 2 from Michaels on black Friday for $160.
@@RLLWoodworks Sweet! Thanks again. I’ve been wanting to get one to stencil work but there’s so many out there to choose from.
Do you sell these, how much and do you make a good profit on these?
Nevermind I watched till the end lol and I commented half way through
These are great! Thank you. Question: are The stair treads you talk about just 1x2’s? Thanks again!
Where do you get the decal of stars
I actually made them in the Cricut software. I'm not very tech savvy but it was pretty easy to use if you have a Cricut or other vinyl cutter.

awesome work as usual, my friend. sadly, the swiss flag isn't as cool as the american one, but maybe i give it a shot one day. 😄✌
Haha thanks Lukas! Do it!!
