    A construction project manager isn't that similar to other industries though... this is because a construction project is a construction SITE, its not just a collection of internal processes/procedures/tasks with a start and finish date. The level of knowkedge required to be responsible for an entire constuction site counts on the individual having at least 15 years of experience. This is why a 15-year journeyman electrician isn't just a natural pivot into construction project management, it is usually the standard -- it is required to be a master tradesworker or Engineer. Project manager in construction is one of the most senior roles in a construction company where your job is essenuiall to prevent the company from getting sued, and preventing installations from failing, and creating injuries/deaths or major financial losses. And you usually have other high-level positions wirkikg under you. This is also why project managers in other industries are confused why they can't get an interview in the construction industy PM positions. They don't realize the careers happen to have the same name, but in construction its a very heavy, top level role responsible for a site.

      Thank you for taking the time to share your insight into construction project management and thanks for watching, cheers!

    • @intellectualsmoke
      @intellectualsmoke 19 дней назад +1

      Actually no, a journeymen isn't exactly qualified either. Project managers are trained to maintain the entire project, not just good at electrical work and being around the project. They are trained looking at the entire project and tested for that position completely. It isn't the same. You guys are missing out. Hire them and raise them as project manager. Take from an HR guy

    • @coachmindy
      @coachmindy 19 дней назад

      @@intellectualsmoke Thanks for the insight. I am not saying that a senior front lines worker is automatically qualified. It's one of the most senior positions in a construction company that very few people have all the desired experience and skills for. I'm saying that a "project" in the construction industry is an entire construction site from pre-construction through procurement, deficiencies, closeout/occupancy/payment... the project manager role is very high level and counted on for understanding and being responsible for trades performance, scheduling etc. While, a "project" in any other industry is not a construction site. This is why many construction companies struggle to find a unicorn employee who can be that trades savvy PM who will help prevent the company from getting sued, and prevent trades from having to rip up their work and re-do it because it didn't match the scope of work in the contract. A project manager from healthcare or finance can't just walk into a PM role in a construction industry and know how an entire contruction site works and recognize if the trades are operating correctly. It's not the same job.

    Wow thank you for the tips. Do I have to get a certification?

    • @AdrianaGirdler
      @AdrianaGirdler  6 месяцев назад +1

      Entry level roles don't necessarily require a certification, but if you are looking into Project Management then taking a course would be recommended. I do have a course that I think would be of benefit to you. It's called SLAY Project Management. In this course I walk you through the entire project process from start to finish to make sure you know exactly how to manage your project. It also includes all the templates you will need to keep you on track with your projects! You will also have access to the SLAY Project Management Facebook group where you can ask questions and share your wins with other Slayers! Here is the link to check it out adrianagirdler.thinkific.com/courses/slaypm

    Hi Adriana! I've come across your videos and wanted to ask a question. lets say you're stepping into the role of PM for the first time, my unit already has projects they are working and the current situation is that I was selected to essentially take over and replace the current PM, some insight that might be worth mentioning is that I'm the middle man between my bosses and coworkers and than my bosses bosses. they've already told me the projects will remain the same but I was just curious what you might recommend or suggest as I step into this world.

      There are so many different software tools out there for PM's it really comes down to preference or what tool companies choose to use that works best for them. Having said that having a solid knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Sharepoint are 2 software tools that I would highly recommend you are familiar with. Thank for watching, cheers!

    This is really helpful. I am an engineer working on projects from start to finish (in engineering consulting) and as you said those in the early stages of their career are focusing on execution rather than the project management of the project. Could you possibly discuss more on how people like me can get from engineering into project management roles?
