  • Eric completes a day-long restyle of an old juniper bonsai. This bunjin-style tree originally belonged to one of the founding members of the Bonsai Society of San Francisco. It's current owner was ready for Eric to make some major changes, including cutting a large branch, using a clamp to help create space and new movement, and introducing new jin.

Much improved! It would be nice to see the trunk with cleaned bark and maybe some more shari, but perhaps you're waiting to see if it dies back a bit first?

Yeah, as I mentioned, I expect part of the lifeline to die due to the large branch I killed. Once it has a year to establish then I can follow the edges to create a natural shari. TBH I'm split on cleaning bark - I think it reduces the rugged feeling a tree can have. (I might be biased since I don't see the color red very well.)

Yeah, in retrospect that's not great music, but what the hey. It's actually a huge problem for YTer's - cant please everyone and can't use music in many cases due to copyright....so we have to rely on free music.

Great work. The clamp/expander you used - was that custom made or available online anywhere?

Remove the sticky dead part at the end that makes it look like a cut of tree! you will need to carve a curve.
