- Team REVan Evan heads to Milan Dragway with Paul Svinicki's super-rare 2000 SVT Cobra R. It has a unique 4.6/302-cube modular engine with huge cams, 11:1 compression and all the RPM you can handle.
Watch Part 1 here: • 9,000 RPM "Tunnel Ram"...
Nice to see the R being raced, instead of seeing it sold at Mecom for some crazy amount and never seen again. Great video guys
The best part was Paul showing the emotion he had for the experience of visiting an old friend.
Thank Evan for the effort.
Evan, as a Ford guy, I really appreciate you doing videos like this. Thanks.
You’re welcome, thanks for watching.
@@revanevan Evan, what is your early observation of the NHRA Factory X class? As a Ford fan, it was great to see the Coyote Mustangs dominate the Factory Stock class. It seems though that NHRA has created another class for GM and the Camaro to dominate like Pro stock. I realize that at the moment Mopar has the upper hand but I'm sure they'll be hit with weight here soon.
Does Factory X have an even playing field? Are Ford fans going to see Ford's winning in this new class that has the potential to be exciting? The premiss of the class is great, stock factory powerplants in racing chassis.
A review of this new class would make a great video.
Yeah, most serious drag racers have seen the light and won't run anything except an LS 😉
I totally read that wrong lol i read "Even, as s ford guy". 😅 I thougght to myself.....this guy knows this is a ford right? Maaaaaan lol blonde moment
@@randoawesomemix9501you lie!!
Coyote is so much better.
Fastest fords In the country are coyote powered!!
I tuned this car like 20 years ago... its so cool to see it still running.
I bet that was fun.
Wow the legendary Job spetter. I can only imagine where we would be in racing if you didn't stop racing. I miss seeing your mustang such a well sorted car.
The original ls killer. Freaking awesome 👌
@@jackflash6377 For sure it was very cool, the electronics back then were nothing like today, thats why we had to put a distributor on it. Still cool stuff, I'd like to work on it again, theres alot more we could do with it
@@j.e.d.8065 Thanks man.... I'm back involved in a few cars here and there, I just couldn't stay away
Interestingly, back in 2000 I was a driveability tech at one of the Ford dealerships in Denver Colo. And because of the access to roads at altitude my dealership was one that the Ford engineers in Dearborn would use. The dealership was immediately off the interstate 25. We would give them whatever they needed as far as tools, techs and Ford stuff. Being I was a driveability tech many times I basically was working for them (as flat-rate they paid really well). But they generally did their own stuff. It was always two guys driving some type of proto-type car trying to certify it and get the electronics worked out and all that kind of stuff. The vehicles had all type of test equipment hooked-up that was "state-of-the-art" back then. Like for instance if it was 6 cyl. they had 6 ox sensors hooked up. The electronics back then was pretty simple. They always had BOB hooked-up. And any techs who helped them got free lunch too. So over the years I've seen them come in with turbo Mustang and T-bird, SVT Mustang, SHO Taurus, SuperCoupe T-bird to stupid shit like V10 in an Econoline. But one time they came in on a Saturday and it was my day in the barrel for Saturday. They had what one of the engineers said was one of 2 2000 Cobra R's. They had driven it from Mich. So we put it up on the lift to look it over before they headed into the mountains. S/C 5.4L Modular, independent rear suspension. I think a 6 spd. trans if memory serves me. The car was bitchin! It too was red, just like this one. So I was shop foreman also which required a road test with one of the Ford guys(-:
Great story, thanks for sharing.
best day at work ever!!
Also that OBS ford monster truck wrecker at the end 😍
I'm 53 and this took me back to the rags days. The distributor blew my mind.
Paul was having a blast in the car.. so cool to see an OG out there
Oh man I'm waking up to this! I was in my early 20's when this thing was out and about! So cool to see
Time to get that stocker back out Evan. Atco is but a distant memory sadly but there’s always the grove! Hope to see it up here again some day. Love the content thanks for what you do man.
Great job Evan. I enjoy seeing all of your videos. You show the human side to your stories that makes it better than most. All of your interviews show us the down to earth side of the racers Thank You
Doug, thanks for watching.
Great video. As a lifetime 90s early 2000s svt lover, doesn’t get any better than this.
i know how happy he must be to get that car back out.i have a 66 comet 428 4 speed that i have owned since high school, im 61 now. i got it going again after sitting a few years.your videos make me want to get my comet out and have fun with it.
Love the nostalgia of this !!! I lived off the Mustang magazines you were a part of growing up and all these race cars , classes and parts. Love the channel. And content. Keep it up ! Love all this 90’s and early 00’s ford race stuff.
I absolutely love these videos. Been reading all your columns since I was 14 years old I’m now 37.
Paul Pitted next to me one year at Norwalk at Fun Ford Weekend! And it was that same event that his father or father in law was racing in a class.
I owned a New Edge with that Cobra R wing on the back. They are indeed functional. Over 60mph, they will really start pushing down on the rear of the car.
Would love to see him step up the compression and go to Dominator or something.
Things have come a long way since the early 00s.
One of my favorite Mustang bodies. That ignition is a nice piece of work. Good to see you at Norwalk.
Watching your channel makes me feel like a kid again! All the stuff I used to flip through the magazines and dream about shows up on here. Good years they were, thank you!
That is awesome!
Absolutely awesome sounding Ford V8, and the car is beautiful !
I love the Mustang!
Dood what about the Big blue Ford truck,? in the back ground. That is something you don't see every day!
This brings back so many memories. It was such an awesome era and we are blessed to have been a part of it. Thank you Evan for keeping it alive!
Thanks for all your videos! Paul seems like a nice humble guy.I’ve never seen a distributor running off the cam like that.Paul is really good at what he does, and so are you Evan!I always enjoy your videos!
Thanks for watching!
Love seeing some of these old cars coming out from back in the day. This car, Beefcakes old 99 on the LSC Channel. Nostalgia is hitting hard
Evan man I love these old car videos. Stuff I remember from growing up. Paul seems so relaxed. How cool man.
Bueatiful car. All it needs is a better convertor and a little boost! Nothing crazy like 5 pounds or there about, but wow what a beast . Keep it running guys
As a 4th gen Camaro guy this was great. I remember reading GMHTP and MM&FF back in the day, reading articles about the 2000 Cobra R and for some reason I remember this car and Paul but I don't recall from what. Maybe NMRA in Joliet? Either way total nostalgia trip and greatly appreciate the effort to make this happen and share it with us. 🍻
Thanks for watching, I loved working for MM&FF and playing a small part in GMHTP.
Evan was out there cutting the best 1/4 times for bone stock cars with both blue ovals AND bowties LOL
@@RyTrapp0 facts! a legend for many of us.
Incredible engineering they put into that car
Hey Paul, do you remember which Ckbra R this is? 9R? I think this was the back-up certification car, but I can't remember. I will look in my notes when I get back to Detroit.
I love seeing cars that are pretty much irreplaceable still getting raced.
Thank you Paul and Evan for bringing this car back. An N/A mod motor is awesome. Just proves that you don't need the bottle or boost to have a blast.
I remember helping build the driveshaft for that car. Totally awesome
Crazy to think in 2024 you can run that time in a bolt on F-150 with the AC blowing
👍fantastic looking Cobra R old Technology but still has it N/A
Sick
A very well built car, looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Thanks Evan for the video, and thanks Paul for showing your awesome car to us!
Coolest video ever!!!! We remember the time and car World at that time. So great to see it again. God bless both of you. Take care Evan.
Thanks for the Blast from the past! I remember that car well from the Fun Ford Weekends.. Good Times
One of my top 5 cars. Damn I love this beautiful machine. The straight track is not where she belongs but I’m sure she will shine
Huge shout out to Dave Diegel and the rest of the SVE crew building the R at the DAP was great fun. Thanks for this video..Tommy D.
That is one clean ride
Running vp 110 saves on fuel pump and injectors since E taxes fuel pumps and injector I bet stock terminator injectors and fuel pump would be more then enough
The Cobra R it's already legendary. In a way it's like the Boss 429 of the early 2000s. This one is very unique, good the see it back at the track. Great car and video
Incredible car. However that AJE Y2K drag race k member that’s on the car is super dangerous as many of them have completely failed and caused crashes.
Coyote's door slammer grand pappy 💪🏻
It still has the older weld magnums. 💪🏼
Weld had very few choices back then. Alumastar and magnums were the top dogs.
What a great day. Awesome car
The tow truck in the background is sic too.
Love the car . Was going to ask if was still the 5.4, but my question was answered . 😅 I'd love the car for the street with a stick . Lol 😆
Paul is great!
That Cobra looked really sluggish off the line. What’s the 60’ times?
This video brought me back to my childhood.... those day of begging my dad to take me to the grocery store and rushing inside to get the latest issued of MM&FF.... Seeing that "Paul Svinicki" decal with that Font on the side window brought me back to a time that was just so simple, where mustangs and building cars in my head was all I cared about. Thank you Evan for making these videos; they really mean a lot to me.
Really enjoyed this video,I would love to see this car at Milan.I’m less than an hour away.
I thought this was a horsepower channel...now I see it's all blue ovals 😂😂😂😂
Not a Mustang Guy, but when I seen 9,000 RPM’s … welp… I’m here
Keep up the good work showing these interesting fords. Cobra r cars are still awesome.
I love this channel but it makes me feel old sometimes!😂
Me too.
The LS Chibbies will eat it alive. FORD cant win jack shit.
i had to go out in the shop and give my new edge a hug & tuck her in . thanks Evan and Paul!!!!
There will always be a part of me that feels irs Mustangs should be set up for handling
Too bad it's an automatic..
It’s a drag car, automatics are far more suited to that
This addictive watching for a midlife crisis type of feller.
This car needs a stick!
I was thinking the same thing. Too many RPMs not to have a stick.
Nothing like slamming gears at high RPM. Gotta keep it in that power band.
If only the T56 was as developed for racing use back then as it is now, would've made this car just that lil bit cooler lol
Sweet. That's a car that can make a guy drool! I remember it!
killing LS junk with a 4.6L 20 years ago lol
Anyone know what kind of coil overs hes using up front?
i saw this car in the magazines as a kid. Seeing video of the car in action is badass.
❤😂😢😮😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 Evan how come when I do comments you never get back to me. I’m Ford fan just like you so please get back to me with the comments I leave that pisses me off. I say nice things and people don’t Come back and let me know. Take care.
Doug, I have almost 400 videos. I try to respond to every comment within the first few days of posting each new one. Unfortunately I am unable to look at every comment on older videos. I do appreciate you watching and would be glad to answer any questions.
Please don't tell me they took a track car and made it strip car..
this car isn't american! where are the cupholders 👿
If its so good..why isnt it being raced???
Love those Cobra Rs
Very cool!!!!!
How cool would it be to add a Eaton 2650 and take it to 8,000
A one off tunnel ram? Are you sure about that claim? I use to see all kinds of prototype stuff in both brian wolfe's and Rick Rodger's Garage way ahead of its time. I remember polishing a set of yates sr.s for ricks T-Bird, see all kinds of modified intakes, both upper and lowers, boxes, two gt-40 uppers welded together, all kinds of ford goodies and bliss. Had I not got shafted on afternoons or midnight shifts I would have been out there with all the big boy in the 90's and early 2000's, as my ride also had all kinds of prototype goodness.....and all mostly raced on the street due the aformentined afternooon shifts, is the only time I could get any kind racing in. Kids and life killed it, but I stil have it, its in my blood, and when ever I get a chance to get to milan, I always put regulars on the trailer in in both sportsman and pro classs...being consistent at cutting double 0 lights really is an advantage to anyone at the light.
For this engine, yes we’re sure.
what an awesome car! would love to see the correct converter in it and try again! I want to see that thing launch hard!
I'd love to hear it with Flowmasters on it.
What a treat!!
Awesome
Mr Evan is there a version of you that covers dodge or Chevy? We’re there any series back in the early 90’s or 2000’s for gm and mopar???
Super Chevy held events. Then when Fun Ford came out, it almost out the Super Chevy out of business due to its quick gain in popularity and class winner purses. Mopar had some events too, but I forget the name. Google search can give more details though.
Beautiful Mustang! Love seeing that car again!
I watched a 99 Cobra with a carbed 2V 4.6 swap run 9.70's N/A at SGMP a couple years ago, one of the most IMPRESSIVE cars I've ever seen! MOST folks are blind to the capabilities of modern engines...
See the Adam Cox video on my channel
That's awesome! Out of curiosity, is there alot of work on the safety side that goes into getting a car like this ready? Changes of rules since then, lifespan of the safety equipment like restraints, and re-certifications? Just those minor details that im sure a lot of people dont think about!
The cage would need to be certified and new belts.
i bet that motor doesnt have cut cam keys. I have a local with a cobra r and got to see it..such a cool ford.
Beautiful Car. Well done Paul!
❤😂😢😮😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 where is there a fun Ford Sunday in California? I can’t find one I went to one long long time ago in Vallejo California, but I don’t know whether right now.
That series doesn’t exist anymore. I’m sure there are other Ford events.
@@revanevan there’s car shows up here but they’re mixed with Chevy and Dodge and other old cars. I am particular for just Ford since I got my license and I always will drive a Ford had a Chevy and it was a piece of shit so that’s why I left it in been Ford ever cents
Another great video Evan! Had a chance to buy a Cobra R about 25 years ago for $35K just didn’t have the money at the time. Probably worth $$$ now
what a cool engine, what is the maintenance on the timing chains like? bc I know the 5.4 eat chain guides and maybe cam bearings
Thanks for this video Evan I thoroughly remember this car from ghe mm&ff days when I was teenager.. Paul's high performance congrats for knocking the dust off the ol cobra
Beautiful car, awesome motor, wicked sound.
Cool guy too.
Thanks for bringing the coolest cars and people.
I remember glidden pro stock when I was 10 yrs old, I remember this car in my twenty’s the progression is amazing that you guys for bringing these cars back
Very nice!! Thanks Evan!!!
Over head cam is the best!!
Push rod motors are on the way out!!
Even GM is going to over head cam V8s
Love it Evan! The emotion he has like seeing an old friend again.. Beautiful
Thanks
It needs a Liberty 5speed.
Someone please tell me what engine is this again? What cubic inch?
It’s a modular 5.4L motor which equates to 331ci. It’s far from a truck engine though…
Huge heads holy F!
Wow what a car!!!
You know, the hood for the Cobra R was not designed by Ford...
Bad to the bone🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
