I'm really excited for you to be branching out with genres! I've been watching your videos on and off for a while now because I really enjoy your personality on camera, but I don't actually read a lot of romance😅 So, excited to see what you pick up this year. But more importantly!! I hope you will fall in love with reading again and just find joy in what you read and create.

I gotta say, starting a daily reading routine/ritual has been so helpful for me. I was feeling such a disconnect with my joy for reading until doing this recently.
After work I snuggle up in my reading chair with a decaf coffee & my heated blanket with my cats for 30mins-hour and I look forward to it every day now. It’s made reading more fun & relaxing for me again. Plus, such a big stress reliever for my very stressful job 😅

Your expansion outside the romance genre is so real! Feeling stuck within one genre is frustrating and limiting and definitely makes you feel like a chore. Having reading be part of your job and thus making it unenjoyable is such a genuine element of content creation especially surrounding bookish videos. I feel you!! Also, I think my habit of seeking out and reading books that just seem up my alley as opposed to keeping track of hype and popular books has really served me in terms of reading things I enjoy. I hope your 2024 reading year goes better and that your first 6 months of content creation is as exciting and fulfilling as you hope!

there’s so much pressure as a creator to find your niche and stick to it!!! stay in your lane!!! “we don’t want to hear the thriller girl talk about fantasy!” 🥴🥴 etc. and i think it’s bullshit. read whatever you want, mood read, dnf…. we are allowed to do that too 🫶🏼 i really hope you fall back in love with reading in 2024!!

Last year I got SO burnout on romance. I started dabbling in way more. Specifically the thriller and horror genre. So now I just mix it up and alternate them. It has made me love romance again when I do pick them up! I’m going to try to pick up more general fiction and historical this year too.

I just wanted to say that I think it's so honorable of you to go back to the drawing board instead of simply giving up on reading or giving up on RUclips. Many people faced with the issue of burnout would simply take a step back (there's nothing wrong with that option), but I think that identifying the issue and creating testable solutions for it is so beautiful. It shows you're really passionate and committed to this thing you love. I commend you for it and wish you so much good luck this year in your reading endeavors!

I'm so happy to see you wanting to pick up books for yourself! I heard you mention your book goal on the end, and feeling a little like you had a "bad year" last year with your goal (which for you, you may feel that way, but 222 is a massive amount of books, and I'm a librarian! I hear goals daily!) I just hope you take your time with books when you want to and don't press yourself with goals. I have a light goal, but I don't push myself to reach it. I think letting yourself go with it and not focusing on pace might be good as well, especially as you try new things. If you read that much naturally too, that's amazing, but I feel forgetting about a goal feels great! Do what makes you happy! ❤

One of the things that helped me branch out was perusing my libraries what’s new section. They get all sorts of new stuff that wouldn’t make it on an online list, and I get to pick from a true assortment and not from something an algorithm already thinks I might like. (Tho I still read a ton of kindle unlimited lol.)

As for historical fiction, I read this beyond amazing book called "Looking for Jane" by Heather Marshall. Another historical fiction I recommend reading is "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Hi, Chandler. Even though I haven't been a content creater for as long as you have, I can definitely relate to the feelings and thoughts you shared in this post. Specifically, I have exactly the same thoughts on historical fiction. I never pick up books from that genre, because in my head I have created this predjudice that I will hate them for reasons that I come up to convince myself will justify my decision to not pick them up... How messed up is that?! This year I'll make a conscious effort to pick up books from that genre to give them a fair chance and see if I'm deluding myself into hating a genre for no valid reason 🤦‍♀. Also, reading only romance really does make it hard to find really outstanding romances to genuinely fall in love with, because they all start to blend together. I'm very much looking forward to all the content you'll come out with in 2024 on all 3 channels and will be watching how you'll hopefully fall back in love with reading and creating the content you love to create 💜

I totally understand contemporary romance burnout. I've had to step away from it and I've been reading more random genres. So many of the romances just blend together at this point. I've been walking through the library and picking one book from each aisle. I've had some real stinkers, but also have found some really cute books.

the last 6 months of the last year i had this realisation that romance was getting boring to me and i'm not in the mood for it anymore. so i decided to change it all up and started trading books from different genres and i do not regret it!
i fel in love with literary fiction and classics. i found out that thrillers and horror are not for me since i find one predictable and the other not scary.
all in all it was my awakening and revived my love for reading. i still pick up romance but it's not all what i read . and i can't wait for my finals to be over so i can read more ❤
also smt I noticed is the more genres I read the more refined my taste gets? like I got into reading by reading romance and that was all I used to read (some romantasy here and there tho). so the more I read the more I see the shortcomings of romance books. writing and characters and dynamics wise. wich made me look at what I used to read from a different perspective. and feel existed for what else is out there.

Reading isn't my job, but I did study Literature at university, and I had such a reading burnout after that. I don't think I read more than 6 new-to-me books in the 2 or 3 years after uni. So I can sort of understand how reading for work can make you lose the joy reading used to bring. Especially when you've pigeonholed yourself into one genre, and if you feel like you need to make certain videos. Mood reading really saved me, and also going to bookstores and just buying whatever, to explore new authors and genres. Not hyped books either, just anything that caught my eye for whatever reason. I hope you won't take your reading goal too seriously though. If you start exploring new genres and new authors, there's a big chance your reading speed won't be the same as it is with what you're used to. Especially considering you used to read mostly romance, which is trope-heavy and the books generally quite short. So there is a realistic chance you might not read as much or as fast as you're used to over the last few years. Hopefully you'll rekindle your love for reading this year, I'm rooting for you ☺️

You know, I think if you feel excited to read a book it's worth starting-- even if you think you're just excited because of the buzz around it-- so I'd say maybe take popular books from the DNFing angle instead? Like have a policy that if you start a popular book and 20 pages in you're no longer excited about it, it's an automatic DNF.

If I’m going to be completely honest, I started watching this channel because I really enjoyed your energy and personality, but stopped watching for the most part when it being ONLY romance. I don’t read a lot of romance so it got super repetitive and boring to me. I would see one of your videos in my feed and see the title and pass it by. And it makes me so sad cuz I really do enjoy watching you!! All that is to say, I would be thrilled if you went back to challenging yourself to explore other genres again!

I’m not sure you can enjoy reading when it’s your job.
